05.01.2022 A bit of an eye-opener for those trying to save some money and do their photography or video on the cheap. I have just received the third phone call between today and yesterday for photography or videography because the person/s booked have cancelled at the last minute. Two of the three were weddings ! Imagine the night before your wedding preparing yourself and then realising you have no photographer.... There is a saturation of hobbyist, uni students and other generally unskilled operators getting around promoting themselves as professional. Apart from skills and experience, they have no business and reputation so don't really care, and like what has happened to these unucky people can just cancel on a whim because they are hung over all decided to go to the beach instead .And while I do you love gumtree, I think it hosts most of them. There is a reason wedding photographers and videographers have a decent price tag. They bring a truckload of experience to the table, but also consider the amount of hours spent on for your wedding day completing the job. If you work it out hourly rate is likely not much help love your own. As a final thought, if you are spending thousands of dollars on a nice venue, beautiful decor, and great catering that will mostly fade from memory over the next few years, does it make sense to skimp on the one thing that is going to make those memories last forever.
