25.01.2022 Mourning the passing Dr Catherine Hamlin AC 1924 - 2020 Many of you who have travelled with Blue Dot Travel to Ethiopia, will have visited her hospital in Addis. Catherine lived an incredible life having made an enormous difference to the lives and health of thousands upon thousands of women in Ethiopia.



25.01.2022 Whoever thought that in the month of April 2020, we would be isolated at home during a global pandemic. It's not something any of us have experienced before, and we hope you are finding ways of adjusting to this "new normal". Over the last month, we have been buoyed by the positivity and support of our Blue Dot family. Thank you for your warm messages. Keeping dreams of travel alive, with the world as it is right now, is a challenge. While we have hit the pause button on trav...el, we can continue with our theme of revisiting unique places with good friends. Here are some more of your wonderful smiling faces. 25.01.2022 Today on our Great Rivers trip we drove from Mannum to Middleton along the Murray. Our wine tasting at Langhorne Creek (Bramerton Wines) was a highlight, as was the cruise on the Mayflower, a 100 year old paddle steamer.

25.01.2022 Our group left yesterday on the train from Sydney to Dubbo ready for their adventure on Blue Dot Travel's inaugural Great Rivers Tour which takes in the Darling and Murray River system. First night near Brewarrina on the Barwon River which is the main tributary of the Darling.

24.01.2022 Blue Dot's "thanks for 2020 being almost over" celebrations with a day out on Pittwater. More food & wine than sailing but heh, who could begrudge us.

24.01.2022 Our first safari in Kanha National Park which was one of the first areas in India to fall under the Project Tiger conservation program to save the Royal Bengal Tiger.

24.01.2022 Here we are at Corynnia Station for an amazing outback stay with Julie & Bruce including a tour of the farm with Bruce explaining modern day farm practices. Our silver service dinner was a very special treat last night.

20.01.2022 Remember that movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" with Steve Martin and John Candy? Travelling to the destination can often be quite an experience. Sometimes it's even the best part. Over the years our local guides have provided us with many unique forms of transport. There have been ex-military helicopters in Kamchatka, sea kayaks in Guatemala, vintage cars in Cuba and zebu cart crossings in Madagascar.... Here are some more photos from our travels. 19.01.2022 Now at the Singinawa end of Kanha National Park and had another two encounters with tigers today, making 4 in total so far. Today’s encounter was very special as we spent several minutes with this 11 year old female tiger. She was just strolling down the road directly in front of our Jeep.

18.01.2022 Great day on the Murray River (South Australian side of the border).

18.01.2022 And that's a wrap. Our first "Great Rivers" tour taking in the Darling and Murray is now done. Today we finished with a trip to the mouth of the Murray at the Coorong near Goolwa and then a final wine tasting in McLaren Vale. Thanks Bill! (Still two places left on our February departure if this is of interest).

17.01.2022 Farewell from our first group to the outback after a day visiting Broken Hill including the Miners Memorial and a farewell dinner at the Palace Hotel. Our 2nd group of 6 arrived safely last night ready for their adventure.

16.01.2022 Outback Tour Update from Broken Hill: A half day in Silverton followed by a visit to the sculpture symposium . In the evening a chef from the Silly Goat cooked dinner for our group at the Imperial Hotel.

15.01.2022 During this time of social isolation, we have been reminiscing about the friendships formed and many wonderful memories we have shared over the years. The Blue Dot family has been a special part of all of our lives. For the time being, travel will not be on the agenda, so we thought it an opportune time to share with you a few of our favourite group photos. Over the coming weeks, we will send out a regular email and a post on Facebook with a unique theme, to remind us of the many special journeys with our travellers. 14.01.2022 Outback Tour Update: Full day yesterday. The fish farm was of great interest and the afternoon at Piccolo Farm in Griffith was a highlight. Bill our tour leader, bought some cod from the fish farm and cooked dinner for the group along with some canoli from Bertoldos to finish it off for dessert. Big success.

14.01.2022 Here we are at Jamtara Lodge on Indian Holi the festival of colors and merriment, welcomes the spring season in India.

14.01.2022 Great Rivers Tour Update: The group enjoyed a guided tour around Trilby Station at Bourke. The property was part of the massive one million acre Dunlop Station which was established in 1880. Broken Hill was next on the itinerary - a strong Union town with a deep mining history.

14.01.2022 Today, from Renmark to Mannum via Swan Reach for a pub lunch and some aboriginal history (8,000 years of it).

14.01.2022 Outback Update: Our group is travelling from Bindara Station to Lake Pakia. Big bush breakfast before they left. Some flooding rain along the way so had to make s detour. Delicious meal waiting at Lake Paika plus beautiful scenery along the way.

13.01.2022 Outback update: It is raining in the outback. Our group visited Kakadu memorial suspension bridge, a Kingsford Smith memorial and an olive oil farm and saw where the Darling and Murray Rivers meet.

13.01.2022 Update from our Great Rivers Tour: Ecumenical morning tour of the mosque and synagogue plus the Royal Flying Doctor Service which they probably consider church-like. Railway museum to see the monument to the only WWI deaths on Australian soil.

06.01.2022 Tour update from Kanha National Park, Central India. Yesterday we took our resident elephant Tara for a walk down to the river for a bath. In the evening we were treated to a wonderful surprise of tribal dancing by the local Baiga tribe. This morning we headed out early for our jeep safari #2 with our naturalist in search of tigers and we were not disappointed.

06.01.2022 Our last post from our Tigers Tour of India at the Red Fort. Now all safely in Singapore awaiting flights home to Australia.

06.01.2022 Outback update: A great demonstration at Shear Outback - Australia’s Shearer’s Hall of fame followed by lunch at the Convent then a fascinating guided tour of Bishops Lodge historic house and heritage rose garden. They spent the night at Burraburoon Farmstay with Tertia & Ken.

05.01.2022 Follow us to the NSW outback. Here we are at the the Wall of China Mungo Lake, rich in cultural significance and beauty. Famous for the Mungo Man & Mungo Lady.

04.01.2022 Our last full day in India and what a finale, watching the sun-rise over the Taj Mahal. A pinch yourself moment.

04.01.2022 The Great Rivers Tour Update: Our group first visited the historic Bourke cemetery today where one of our national icons - Fred Hollows - is buried. Next was a visit 70km out of Bourke to the Gundabooka National Park with a bit of a hike to access the ancient aboriginal rock art caves. Overnight at the historic Dunlop Station in Louth where our hostess Liz cooked a wonderful campfire meal & gave the group a tour of the property.

04.01.2022 The colours of outback NSW are wonderful.

02.01.2022 Our Great Rivers group spent today at the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Centre where the highlight was a guided tour of the 40,000 year old aboriginal fish traps which are state heritage listed. Further on in Bourke, the group boarded the paddle vessel Jandra for a short trip down the head of the Darling. The original Jandra was built in 1894 in Mannum in South Australia and was used to collect wool from the surrounding properties.

02.01.2022 Outback update: Menindee Lakes on a cold windy and choppy day. Dead tree photos are whistling kite nests and an Aboriginal canoe tree. Bells 1950s milk bar, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Brown's shaft poppet head, and the Schnitty pub for dinner.

02.01.2022 Our Outback Tour concludes after a wonderful lunch at Limone one of most successful of Griffith's many top-notch Italian eateries. Many thanks to our tour guide Bill. If you are interested in joining this tour next year we have a group going in March. There are 4 places available.

01.01.2022 Day 2 Tigers tour of India: Started the day in Delhi with a rickshaw ride through Old Delhi through Chandni Chowk. Followed by a fascinating visit to Bungla Sikh temple where we visited the communal kitchen, where hundreds of people are fed every day. Last stop of the day was Humayun Mausoleum tomb of the 2nd moghal emperors from 16th Century with lots of fun in between.

01.01.2022 Our wonderful hosts Tertia & Ken at Burrabaroon Homestead treated us to a wonderful welcome dinner. Today in Hay at the Shear Outback Centre - Australian Shearers Hall of Fame then off to Dunera Museum where our guide David Houston shared his own personal experience of the arrival of the POW internees in Hay when he was 5 years old.
