25.01.2022 Our good friend and gun freshwater test angler Mark Cummins was back in the drivers seat thru the week. On this occasion his challenge was to put our trademark ...Thunda Spin (made and designed in full by Brian Bochow of B.J.s Custom Baits) back to the test. This time however it had been newly fitted with a 'twin spin' underspin blade configuration. In the end it did not take very long at all for both the new twin spin and Mark to come up trumps once again and as per usual. Apparently the Cod were (quote) "All over it with countless follows, including some from big fish that even he knew existed in that particular hole - Until the other day"... Congrats and well done. 22.01.2022 Some Thoughts From B.J.

18.01.2022 This superbly crafted, special order, custom designed, Thunda Spin jig has rapidly becoming one of my all time favorite jigs from B.J.s Custom Baits.. Be it on ...lake trout, wild water bass, lizards, and more. The subtle but intrinsic addition of those two red lateral lines sets the fish off every single time. To order PH: 0418 476976. See more

16.01.2022 For more details about the Speedster jig please visit our sales page and simply scroll down. Currently available in both 1/2 and 1oz. For use on all pelagics an...d have been producing particularly well on both Kingfish and the big Greenback Tailor that are currently showing their presence at various locations along the coast at the moment. It is worth noting that, just like with many other presentations, that it's often in the pause (or drop) that you will get smashed.. See more

13.01.2022 TACKLE TALK: WHICH WAY TO TURN (THE SWIVEL DEBATE). As with a great many things at the end of the day it comes down to personal choice. Nonetheless it is worth ...noting that more or less since their inception we have been consistently told that sealed ball bearing style swivels are significantly better in pretty well every which way. However (with the exception of large heavy duty game fishing which is a totally different senario). It is worth noting some of the following factors when it comes to choosing such a simple but often very important piece of terminal tackle: - Additional cost. - Quality. - Size to weight ratios. - Very high maintenance. As always we would be interested in hearing the thoughts of our fellow members on the topic but it is worth noting some of the above points when it comes to swivel selection - As in the end it has often ends up leading many to sticking with a simple quality barrel style swivel. (Usually a quality black variety of which there are no shortage of suppliers). Sometimes 'simple' remains the best and can certainly attest to the fact that bearing swivels can be very high maintenance and often seize up with relative ease, despite standard tackle maintenance. Whatsmore they are only as good as the bearing that they depend on and when this goes they become useless. (We fishos often do a good enough job at losing quality fish thru our own efforts and there is nothing more frustrating than doing everything right only to lose a good fish due to equipment failure).. Last but not least, when it comes to the swivel sizes it is all but impossible to find a bearing swivel that can match the simple barrel swivel when it comes to small sizes and light weights. The ultimate proof of this comes when One looks at the numerous lure makers (both here and abroad) who run things like very small blades as part of their product design and inevitably revert back to barrel swivels due to the fact that they cannot get a bearing swivel to do the required job, particularly at low retrieve speeds. i.e. The ever popular Beetle Spin comes to mind as one of the many example products that has 'been there, done that' so to speak. As 1st mentioned at the end of the day it often comes down to personal choice - Nonetheless we hope that the above is of some assistance and would certainly appreciate hearing your own personal thoughts and experiences on the topic as it is by 'sharing' that we all learn...

12.01.2022 The Proof Is Always In The Pudding: Another score our Speedster jig from B.J.s Custom Baits. Yet another Sydney Harbour Kingfish fails prey to the 1oz Speedster... jig. This 82cm specimen was caught under the Harbour Bridge the other day at a time when all other techniques and lines remained untouched. (Quote). 'Every single time this jig gets splashed, it gets smashed'... Available exclusively to Bluefin. To order phone: 0418 476976.

10.01.2022 When All Else Falls... Yet 'another' win on the Kingies for our ubeaut Speedster Jig from B.J.s Custom Baits. Avid Sydney Harbour landbased Kingfish enthusiast ...Sylvester is rapidly becoming a bit of a regular on our humble little group page over at Bluefin. This quality 85+cm specimen was the only fish of the day for the whole entire group full stop, thus making it our fish of the week by default for the Upper Harbour. Yes. The words 'Upper Harbour' and '1oz Speedster jig' are the key points of note for those who are interested in catching these fish in the dead of winter using this technique; which to date has enjoyed a 100% strike rate. (Am touching some very serious wood on that one as I write.). So why are fish of this caliber being caught at this time of the year and so far up the harbour.? As in the part so far up that is more often driven past and overlooked than it is fished, and is most probably better known to for it's fine food, great cafe's, and some kickass blues bands. (hint). The answer is threefold yet relatively simple for those in the know: - As a general rule of thumb the average water temp is warmer in the Upper Harbour at this time of the year. (This is one very important and often missed tip/point of note for your log books). - It is where a lot of the bait fish currently are. (Particularly tucked in behind those nice little eddies that form directly behind certain bridge pylons). - For at least the 4th/5th season in a row not 'all' of Kingies move out of the Harbour and migrate. Such has been the success of this fishery recovery; largely due to the closure pro trapping and enforced pollution legislation all those years ago. We now have a year round resident and breeding Kingfish population in Sydney Harbour. When things start to slow down and get all chilly in the Harbour propper "Don't give up. Move up". (Quote my old mate Craig McGill circa 2017). And why the Speedster on (quote) "A pier/wharf that was literally full of anglers, lines, fresh strip baits, lives, lures, and killer fresh squid all being frantically and fruitlessly thrown at the boiling bait schools".? The answer. It's exactly the same one that we at Bluefin have been giving pretty well each and every time we feature a post on B.J.s Custom Baits. They really do 'Work and Produce''. Full stop end of story. There's now more than two lifetimes of combined experience, science, testing, and pure passion behind them. True jig fishing is largely a long lost and forgotten fishing art form/alternative in this country that kicks some serious fishing butt when used correctly. Whatsmore B.J. himself may be many things (depending upon just whom you may happen to be talking/listening to ) but hey... The man is certainly no fool who's probably forgotten more than a great many of us will ever know when it comes to fishing and the art of creating truly effective and lethal fish catching artificial presentation. It's definitely a whole different ball game over in the U.S. where his products are often converted and are more custom commissioned than they are ordered. And that's coming from a country that largely pioneered jig fishing which is interestingly, currently enjoying an even bigger than ever resurgence of its own on the jig scene. Personally I am tipping jig fishing as potentially being one of the forerunners in the next new wave to hit the industry as we are both due for, and in need of, one. We will see and guess that time will tell soon enough. Anyhow if you want to be in on some of the action or are looking for alternative to watching Netflix reruns while at home in self quarantine, then you know how and where to find me. Cheers and 'happy fishing' as always.

06.01.2022 # Correction Re The B.J.s Tailor Post: 1) It was 10lb Gevicont not 10kg. B.J. only fishes light. 2) The grand total of Tailor caught for the morning was actually 18. As his mate with the other Custom Bait jig also caught 9 Tailor before being also monstered. Cheers.

04.01.2022 Yet Another Great Win For The 'Thunda Spin'.. 01.01.2022 A NOTE TO ALL: We sold our original Mutimer hull some time back in order to upgrade to a brand new hull of our own custom design - The Sabre 580 (which is now also available for purchase exclusively to Bluefin). Unfortunately however it would 'appear' that the new owner of our former Mutimer hull is currently operating under our existing banner of Bluefin. (Which is not considered to be a very nice, ethical, or professional thing to do in our very close knit community/industr...y). Whatsmore they have absolutely 0% prior commercial industry experience; particularly in terms of emergency proceedures and maritime O.H.&S verse our 30 odd years - This is of 'considerable concern' to us and we are currently addressing, and taking possible action against, the matter at hand. As such. In the interim we kindly request that for All Bookings and/or to organise a totally f.o.c. Test Drive of our new Sabre 580. Please phone us direct on: 0418 476976 or Email us at [email protected] We thank you for your assistance and very much look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Kind regards. Scott Oldfield from (the real) Bluefin..
