24.01.2022 The view once you're finally 62 metres below ground It's a stunning walk into the sunken forest doline, down many stairs to reach this point. The forest is lush and filled with birdsong now, a real sensory treat. Once you reach this spot, you'll walk across the lake on this boardwalk, stopping to admire the suspended table formation on the right, that seems to magically float above the water. You'll even enjoy a quiet moment of total darkness, appreciating just how peacefu...l the cave really is. This wonderland is accessible by guided tours, but be sure to book ahead as we're running with smaller groups right now. Secure your place and experience this unmissable place for yourself - https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave/ Russell Ord

24.01.2022 Driving down Caves Road through Boranup Forest, you'd never guess that this subterranean wonderland lay below.... and that you can explore it! Busselton based Paul Pichugin Photography(@paulmp on Instagram) recently visited and took this superb pic. He's taking part in Margaret River Region Open Studios this spring, opening his private studio and exhibiting his awesome landscape photography from all around the world. Absolutely worth a return visit to the region to meet Paul and his fellow artists. Thanks for visiting us, Paul! @paulmp

23.01.2022 Hands up, who still hasn't visited Lake Cave? It's one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the Margaret River region, from the sunken forest doline entrance to this glorious scene - stalactites and the suspended table reflected on the underground lake. IG/medroaming must have thought they'd woken in a dream! If you're in Western Australia and able to visit, we're happy to say that we're open and running tours every forty minutes. We're running much smaller groups at ...the moment [thanks, covid!] which we're really enjoying - there's more time to chat, share stories and answer your questions along the way. On the flipside, fewer people on each tour means it's a great idea to book ahead and avoid missing out! Give us a buzz on 9757 7411 to book a tour, or visit our website - link below. See you here soon! https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave/

22.01.2022 What's a doline? This, friends, is a doline! It's this huge hole in the Boranup Forest floor, caused by the collapse many thousands of years ago of this section of cave. You enter Lake Cave via this beautiful doline, taking the stairs on the bottom right into the doline then deeper still into the dark cave. Once inside, a mesmerising scene awaits - thousands of crystal formations are perfectly mirrored on the water's surface. You need to join a guided tour in order to experience it for yourself, and we highly recommend booking ahead. We're running smaller groups (for social distancing) so they fill up quickly than normal. We look forward to welcoming you soon! @take_the_long_way_home_ https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave/

21.01.2022 If you spend too long gazing through grubby office windows, it's time to enjoy the view through nature's window This naturally occurring doline is both the entrance and exit to Lake Cave, and perfectly frames the sky and karri treetops. Once inside the cave it's equally impressive, with thousands of crystal formations reflected in the still water of the lake. Hop onto a fully guided tour as we'd love to share this natural wonder with you. Bookings recommended, especially at weekends. Jump over to our website to book, or call us on 9780 5911. @gigis.graphy

21.01.2022 Mind your head, or prepare to meet two of our least favourite rocks; Headache Rock and Splitting Headache Rock. This is the squeeziest moment on the Lake Cave guided tour. Once you make it past those low-hanging rocks, you're greeted by the most incredible scene - what some call an underground wonderland. Definitely worth a bump on the scone! Big thanks to IG/_matthewphilip_ for sharing this great photo!

20.01.2022 Just taking a moment to drink in the view! IG/a.s.filipe This is the starting point of a guided Lake Cave tour, looking down into the doline and forest floor, which hides the small staircase leading below ground into the cave. We stop plenty of times along the way to share stories and photo opportunities, and to catch our breath. If you're concerned about stairs, have a chat to our guides who are always here to help. And if you can handle the stairs, no worries, be sure to book ahead to avoid a wait! We can't wait to welcome you on a tour

18.01.2022 Looking into the doline from the deck, Lake Cave has the most spectacular entrance of any of the region's caves, at the bottom of a sunken forest. Be prepared for a leg workout when you join the tour - 325 stairs, in fact, take you 62 metres below ground and back up again. Just the thing for working off an indulgent winery lunch! We're following social distancing measures, naturally, which means we are taking fewer guests on tour than normal. Please book ahead to avoid disapp...ointment. IG/odinebarendse

18.01.2022 The view from the doline floor, as you emerge from Lake Cave. This is a natural sinkhole, formed many thousands of years ago when the cave roof collapsed. Without it, Lake Cave would probably never have been discovered! Guided tours run every forty minutes, every day. From this beautiful spot we venture further below ground where we cross a natural lake, and see the reflections of thousands of crystal formations reflected in the water. It's a 'pinch yourself' kind of experience, realising how incredible mother nature really is! Big thanks to IG/yourfeetupontheground for joining us on tour and for sharing this awesome photo!

17.01.2022 We're all rather chuffed to have The Groovin' Bean here at Lake Cave all week... they're here at 8am serving up fantastic flat whites, legendary long blacks and magnificent macchiatos. Tour the cave then sip a superb coffee surrounded by forest... or vice versa, get caffeinated before tackling all the stairs. Either way, enjoy a coffee and definitely book your cave tickets in advance via our website or by calling 9757 7411.

16.01.2022 Today is International Day of Caves and the Subterranean World and yesterday was World Environment Day - what better excuse for a Boranup/Lake Cave road trip! It's a day to increase awareness about the significance of caves to our environment, culture, history and economy. And we're also celebrating because we can now welcome 15 guests on each cave tour! We'd love you to join us at Lake Cave or any of the beautiful show caves in the region - nearby Mammoth and Yallingup's Ng...ilgi Cave are both excellent for younger visitors, and Jewel Cave near Augusta is jaw-dropping spectacular. All the caves are unique and simply beautiful! #internationalcaveday #caveday #worldenvironmentday : @msvalentinacooper (Instagram)

16.01.2022 Two stunning shell orchids canoodling on a bush trail between Lake and Mammoth Caves . We're seeing the first glimpses of the season's orchids around the caves, including jugs and banded greenhoods plus some helmet orchids at the front door at Jewel Cave. So, if you're looking for a weekend adventure, now is the time to head out to the forest on an orchid hunt and see a cave at the same time! Di James

14.01.2022 Lake Cave's Suspended Table snapped by IG/jasminesw- thanks so much for joining us on one of our guided tours. This 'table' is a highlight for many visitors, as it seems to just defy gravity. It hovers centimetres above the cave's permanent lake, and provides a great photo opportunity. Because you wanna be able to take pics to show off to your friends and family, right?! It's not everyday that you get to explore an ancient limestone cave

14.01.2022 Is that a three-eyed cave monster peering over the doline edge? No, it's our epic viewing platform, feature three perspex windows into the natural phenomenon that is Lake Cave! Now, things are pretty busy here at the moment, being school holidays and all. Everyone knows that caves are the best place to stay warm and dry when it's raining! So we strongly recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. Just jump onto our website and book ahead - it only takes a minute. Hot ti...p: the first and last tours of the day are the quietest, perfect if you're angling for a last minute booking! And be sure to tag us in your photos just like @lee_h_1993 did

12.01.2022 A million years in the making, the magnificent underground lair of Lake Cave Now, if we're to share a practical message about the cave, it's to ask you to please book ahead for your guided Lake Cave tour. September is usually whisper quiet ahead of the school holidays, but as this is the year to #wanderoutyonder, we're stoked to welcome more West Aussies than ever before. Hop on our website to book ahead, and we can't wait to see you!... @renotoroaming thanks for sharing your lovely photo!

11.01.2022 Caving 101: stalactites v stalagmites StalaCtites (c) hang from the ceiling.... StalaGmites (g) grow up from the ground! Here at Lake Cave we have thousands of growing stalactites, and if you're lucky you might catch a drip on the shoulder.... We have tours running regularly, and we definitely recommend booking, especially at weekends. Give us a buzz on 9780 5911 or hop over to our website to book your spot on a tour @timcampbellphoto https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave/

11.01.2022 Rain, hail or shine - it's always a fine time to visit Lake Cave! Sure, you might get a little damp on the way in if it's pouring, but once inside it's so dry and whisper quiet, you'd never know if rain is bucketing down upstairs. Fortunately for @happy___yogi the sun came out as she filled her lungs with fresh air. What a glorious place to be, admiring mother nature's marvellous work!... Fancy doing the same? Be sure to book ahead as our guided cave tours have been filling up fast. Social distancing means we're taking half as many people as usual on tours - and we can't wait to welcome you soon.

10.01.2022 Otherworldly light in the Lake Cave Doline Thanks @janekita for sharing! If you're planning a visit, please book ahead. We're running smaller group tours due to social distancing, so the tours are filling up fast. Call us on 08 9757 7411 or book online at https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave/

09.01.2022 Nothing makes us happier than seeing your cave photos! Please tag us here on Facebook or @LakeCaveMR over on the 'gram. @msvalentinacooper- fantastic pic, thanks so much for joining us on tour! Note on COVID-19: health and safety is our priority, naturally, and we're taking precautions to keep you safe. One such precaution is limiting numbers to 15 guests per tour, and therefore we are booking up quickly. We recommend booking ahead online or by calling us on (08) 9757 7411 to secure your preferred tour time.

09.01.2022 The glorious golden tones of Lake Cave. This is the first glimpse you get once you've descended through the doline, past headache and migraine rocks (you'll know them when you meet them!) and into the cave proper. Your guide begins the light show, turning a dark cavern into a truly spectacular scene. Have you visited Lake Cave yet, or any of the region's other caves? We'd love to welcome you soon. Bookings are recommended to avoid disappointment, particularly on weekends and holidays. @placesweturnersgo on IG

09.01.2022 Serenity in Lake Cave. It's not often you're immersed in true darkness, stillness and quietude... we think it's lovely! @stephnofriends enjoying a moment of calmness in our busy world. With school holidays just around the corner, we recommend booking ahead to secure a spot on our in-demand cave tours! Can't wait to welcome you soon.

07.01.2022 Kids + Caves [TL;DR - yep, it's safe!] We're often asked if it's safe to bring a baby, toddler or child into the caves, so we thought we'd share a few tips. Firstly, yes, it's definitely safe. But you might find yourself getting quite a workout with all the stairs! Our stubborn toddlers would happily walk to the bottom of the cave, then demand to be carried back up ... We recommend using a baby carrier - like a Baby Bjorn - on your front, so you have both hands free to hold the stair rails. There are a few spots where you'll need to duck, and having baby on your front helps you protect their little scones. If your child has outgrown the carrier, you can still have a great cave experience, holding their hands as they navigate the stairs. Younger kids sometimes have shorter attention spans, and you might prefer Mammoth Cave which is self guided with an audio guide, or Ngilgi Cave where you spend 15 minutes with a guide before exploring the cave at your own pace. Lake and Jewel Cave are both fully guided, but still perfectly safe and plenty of fun with kids. School holidays are just round the corner (again!) so please be sure to book ahead whichever cave you choose. We look forward to welcoming you! And big thanks @kodie_kaee for letting us share your lovely photo - we hope you had a great visit!

07.01.2022 IG/@mariellebasta thanks for tagging us in this superb photo of Lake Cave! You can see the many stalactites on the ceiling, as well as the permanent lake and its beautiful reflections Taking photos inside caves can sometime be a challenge as there is less light, but if you use the 'night mode' setting on your phones, you can usually get some pretty cool pictures. Plus, we also have light displays throughout the cave, so you can grab a photo when we light up certain areas ...of the cave... such as the Suspended Table in Lake Cave. Lake Cave offers a fully-guided tour, and bookings are recommend. However, if you're coming over the Easter weekend or the school holidays, it is even more important to book. So hop over to our website (linked below) or give us a buzz on 9757 7411 to secure your spot. www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave See more

07.01.2022 Thank you for joining us on a tour IG/@4boysandacaravan - "The water mirrors the delicate crystal formations and the stunning 'suspended table' formation is absolutely incredible to see. How's that reflection. Definitely one not to miss." Thanks guys, we hope you all loved exploring Lake Cave Thinking of bringing the kids down to Lake Cave these school holidays? Make sure you book a time slot in advance, and that way you won't miss out on exploring with us. It's easy to book, just head to our website- we've popped the link below www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/lake-cave

07.01.2022 What a treasure trove! Lake Cave is one of four show caves in the region, and over 100 caves that lie beneath the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge. (Cave lovers/adventurers - there's also nearby Mammoth Cave, Ngilgi Cave in Yallingup and Jewel Cave near Augusta) School holidays are here at last, and that means it's really important to book ahead. It's especially important while we're running smaller group tours for social distancing. Hot tip: the first and last tours of the day are the quietest, perfect if you're angling for a last minute booking! Get in and discover this magic for yourself, just like Osprey Creative did!

04.01.2022 "Margaret River is world renowned for its abundance of natural wonders, but less so for the stunning formations lying beneath the surface." Writer Kate Jones from SCOOP ventured below the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, to discover limestone caves boasting unique crystal formations and fossils of now-extinct animals. Read on to inspire your next karst adventure

04.01.2022 This is the famous suspended table formation - as heavy as a Landcruiser, this mega crystal seems to defy gravity, hovering above the still water of the lake. It's just part of the cave's magic - we also love the towering karri trees, sunken forest and thousands of straws covering the cave ceiling. Experience all the wonder when you visit on a guided tour! Bookings are an excellent idea, as we're running smaller group tours to maintain social distancing. We look forward to we...lcoming you soon. : @the_frosty_shaker

02.01.2022 "What I really loved besides the beauty of this cave was the stillness. It was so quiet and so peaceful. It’s amazing how experiences like this make you realize how wondrous and magical our world truly is. And so precious " A year on from @helen_jannesonbense's visit and we think this rings even truer! Reconnecting with the wonders of nature is the best way to make sense of this curious world we live in. @bobbybense

02.01.2022 There are some fascinating formations within Lake Cave - do you think any of these could be mistaken for coral? While the cave interior is full of visual delights, it's extremely important that nothing gets touched by us, as the oils from our fingers can discolour and destroy the formations. However, along your guided tour you still get pretty close to the crystal and karst features, so you'll have ample opportunity to take some close-up photos

01.01.2022 What the black cockatoos see as they fly over We stumped on this amazing video by @renierbeukes showing the forest around Lake Cave from above, dense with karri trees. It's a magical place to explore, so be sure to allow plenty of time to quietly walk the forest tracks. Better still, join one of the excellent guided tours so you can learn the rich history of the forest, its biodiversity, extinct megafauna and the creatures that now call it home. And big thanks @renierbeukes for tagging us!
