25.01.2022 Happy OT week deliveries today! . Who will be the lucky ones? Thank you @amandaashurst... . These are A-mazing! #otweek #ThisisOT #celebrate #gratitude

25.01.2022 Not a new idea, but definitely a fun one to try out! This activity encompassses fine and gross motor skills whilst burning off energy and reducing the feelings of cabin fever in these restricted times! . We created this in our street this afternoon and when the kids next door come out to play later, (3 young boys), we will be be letting them know about it. All whilst maintaining a good social distance of course! . .... Looking forward to hearing about your journey with this one! Have fun! #movementiskey #therapyisfun #finemotor #grossmotor

25.01.2022 Even after years of experience, therapists have a little laugh at themselves when they say something that is taken literally by one of our little goslings..... . When was the last time something you said to your child was taken in this way? . ... . #playistheworkofchildhood #literally #asdawareness #ASD See more

24.01.2022 Resources: For those kids that struggle with b/ and d/ reversals, which by the way are common until around age 7 or even 8 years old! ;) . Personal faves are the bed visual and using the hands to make the letters. .... These can easily be laminated and placed on kids desks as a prompt . We dont all learn the same way! . #writing #visuals #letterreversals #development See more

24.01.2022 COVID19 and the NDIS . What are we NOT doing at Blue Goose? (There has to be a silver lining somewhere....right? )... We are NOT adding the NDIS recommended 10% to your childs therapy session rates because, the NDIS has not added $$$ to your childs plan. We want to be able to provide longevity of service not just short term provision. We are not following the recommended NDIS guidelines to extend cancellations out to 10 business days prior to service because we know that, that isnt realistic. Kids get sick at a moments notice, so we have actually relaxed, not tightened up, our cancellations policy during the current situation. In addition, we are NOT seeing any of our goslings face to face in efforts to do our part in "flattening the curve". We are however, providing telehealth services to our clients and are finding great success in this method of service delivery. . #ndis #communityspirit #bluegooseot #alliedhealth

22.01.2022 As you may have heard things have been super busy around here lately, and so our team has grown! . We'll introduce you properly later, but here is a shot of one of our wonderful OTs, Louise, in a session with a little Blue Goose gosling. . We hate to have you waiting, but as we are very particular about who sees your goslings, we had to get it right! ... . So, both Louise and Carissa have joined our paediatric OT team, and are looking forward to meeting your family! . You'll be in great hands with either OT! #growth #ndis #occupationaltherapist #bluegoose

20.01.2022 Due to the work being carried out on the Telstra phone tower in Kalamunda, we are experiencing many telephone, internet and EFTPOS drop outs. As a result, it is currently easier to reach us via SMS or email communication. SMS 0466 619 557... Email:[email protected] Website: via our contact form . Thank you for your understanding . 19.01.2022 Truth! #kids #aintthatthetruth #kidlogicc

19.01.2022 Sometimes... just getting a child to have interest in writing and engaging in it is the biggest challenge. . When things have been hard for a while, (for whatever reason), we tend to find ways of avoiding the activity, even when asked to participate. . This gosling struggles with hypermobility and has weak hand strength as a result, causing lack of pencil control, endurance and interest in the task because it is just flipping hard!... . However, today he had a great session! He happily participated in our game and handwriting activity, making a crazy story from the words on the blocks that we push out! . Everyone was winning! It was a great way to start FriYAY! #therapyisfun #handwriting #jenga #bluegooseot

19.01.2022 The Blue Goose Crew see A LOT of bendy goslings, so adding Podiatry and Physio to our team was only a matter of time! . Four years ago, during Hypermobility Awareness month, a wonderful and selfless OT, Michelle OSullivan, created a network for all about hypermobility and connective tissues disorders.... From her, many have learnt so much and for this we are grateful ... . Congratulations Michelle . #hypermobilityawareness #thehypeabouthypermobility #mybendybody See more

18.01.2022 The Blue Goose Crew would like to wish you all A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year ahead. ~ We will be closed for the Christmas break as of noon next Tuesday, the 22nd December. ~ We would like to thank you for your continued support, and look forward to seeing you all again in 2021 from the 4th January ... #Christmas #holiday #relax #bluegoose

15.01.2022 Such a privilege to be invited to support the activities at Woodlupine Family Centre for Mental Health Week, which has a focus on children's mental health this year. One of our passionate and dedicated OTs, Louise, will be presenting on The Zones of Regulation to parents. It is especially important that children's mental health is considered this year as they too are living through a pandemic; missing their loved ones who may live interstate or overseas. Missing those connect...ions that are vital in the growth and development of our goslings #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthweek2021 #childrensmentalhealthmatters #bluegoosetherapyservices

13.01.2022 Hand strength . This little goslings hands struggle with strength. . This of course, impacts him in so many ways throughout the day. ... . Handwriting is a big one! .....and a huge goal. . He needs endurance, without which he struggles to practise his writing and so, tires easily. . And so we play! . We play with toys that promote hand strength and have fun..... . 11.01.2022 Tech Neck! . With kids being at home more so in the past few weeks, you may have noticed your gosings complaining about headaches or neck pain that they dont usually! It has defintely been a complaint in our house from kids and adults alike! . Online learning and therapy, spending more time generally in front of screens, can be a cause of these due to overuse and poor posture...due to not having the right set up for one reason and another.... . Here, Kate, talks briefly about how to alleviate some of this pain with her own little gosling as her assistant! . If this has impacted your child, or if you have concerns about this, Kate is able to offer in clinic appointments for further assessment and treatment to assist in alleviating these symptoms. #techneck #physiotherapy #bluegoose #alliedhealth

08.01.2022 It is commonly thought that paediatric Speech Therapists only work on delayed speech..... however their skills extend far beyond this. Like many health professionals, Karen, our paediatric speechie has areas of Speech Therapy that she is particularly pasionate about..... This is what she had to say;... I am interested in supporting children to develop their literacy skills and have trained in the Sounds~Write phonics programme, an evidence-based multi-sensory approach to literacy remediation that is recommended by the Dyslexia SPELD Foundation. If you have concerns about your childs literacy abilities, things to look out for would be; difficulty with letter-sound recognition difficulty with meeting age expectations for reading and spelling. If your gosling is struggling at school with their literacy skills, maybe you or their teacher have concerns... give us a call to book in for an assessment with Karen whilst she still has spots available... . . . . #speechtherapy #literacy #bluegoose #alliedhealth

08.01.2022 Letter and number reversals often occur up to 7, and even, 8 years old. . Whilst there can be underlying reasons, taking a sensory approach to this can be helpful. . Here we are working with Play Doh and before that, pipe cleaners, using the tactile sense to support other learning.... Other fun ways include; air writing writing in shaving foam finding items from around the home to make the letters writing in sand or rice . . #therapyisfun #wedontalllearnthesameway #letterformations #reversals

06.01.2022 Movement is key in concentration and attention. It can increase levels of alertness for those that switch off and start to stare out of the window and miss important information. . It can also help to calm the anxious or over active brain to increase levels of attention and concentration. ... . This is why dynamic classrooms works so well; they accomodate everyone in an inclusive way! . As an OT it would be a dream to see more "active" classrooms.... a sea of wobble stools, stand up desks, Theraband around the chair legs, wobble cushions to sit on...... accommodations for all! . As someone who used to, and still does need to fidget to pay attention, (because otherwise I would switch off), I am the pen tapper and doodler in meetings, I carry a water bottle to sip, and need to get up at regular intervals whilst report writing to maintain a level of alertness to stay on track... focused. . These days, I am an adult who knows what I need AND how to manage this. . Children instinctively know too, but may not always be able to access these accommodations in a classroom... . Children need to move to be able to pay attention. To learn.... movement is key! . . #movementiskey #adhd #attention

06.01.2022 Such a proud Therapist moment last week to hear that this young gosling was awarded a school honours certificate for organisation skills!!! . Master D, continuously lost or misplaced items, or forgot to bring them home . Between OT and his family, there has been A LOT of hard work. Using home and school based strategies and tools to assist him, such as a custom made bag tag with visuals to help him to remember things; his RemembeRing!, charts and routine boards.... . Of course there have been some other factors to this story, but it goes to show, that when everyone is on board, the results can be amazing! . Congrats Master D! . **Photo shared with permission from parent #executivefunctioning #organisationalskills #teambluegoose #supportive

06.01.2022 Quite often, when children come to us we can identify that what is holding them back is their fear of failure. . Mindset plays a huge part in our ability to achieve, whether we are children, or adults. . Heres a great list from Big Life Journal suggesting ways to reframe that mindset and gradually turn things around. ... . As OTs, Another thing we talk to parents about is modelling imperfect behaviours. Being open about making stuff ups is equally as important. When your goslings see you make mistakes, pick up and carry on, they start to realise that this is possible for them too! . #imperfection #mindset #mentalhealthawareness See more

05.01.2022 Proud. Proud of him. Proud of himself. . Its been noticable that for some of our little goslings, the extra time at home during the WA COVID restrictions has been a golden time.... . Master M has made so much improvement in his pencil skills that we just HAD to show them off! . He is trying really hard to develop these and this week he nailed it with a strongly emerging age appropriate tripod pencil grip, sitting and enjoying drawing for a solid 10 minutes and happily showing off his work at the end! . Sure! He has some way to go, but he is getting there with targeted strategies and small achievable goals . . #hypermobilityawareness #pencilskills #prewriting #encouragement See more
