21.01.2022 Today, Tuesday the 8th of December 2020 marks 40 years since John Lennon was shot down outside The Dakota building where he lived with his family on Central Park West, New York City. He had turned 40 years of age just eight and a half weeks earlier on October 9th. His gift throughout his lifetime and his legacy since has been an enduring body of songs and music, artworks and observations and reflections on life in the modern age which are variously philosophical, acerbic and ...humorous. The sad poignancy of today’s anniversary is that it marks a moment in time where the world has now been without John Lennon for as long as we were fortunate enough to have had him living among us. How many of us do not know at least a handful of tunes and lyrics which sprung from his fertile, passionate, joyous, loving, melancholy and sometimes irreverent mind. His music, his art, his humour and his soul were at various times inspiring, challenging, damning and loving.... Throughout his brief life John always managed to show us that no matter how famous, successful or wealthy we might become we are all of us prone to the same frailties, failings and fears which are what in the end make us human. I feel for Yoko and Sean, Julian and Julia and for Paul all of whose loss is so much greater than we can ever appreciate they were robbed of such a vital and essential part of their lives and the world can never again be the same for any of us. Remember him as the man he was, flawed and fragile, passionate and powerful, caring and condemning and remarkably human. Remember his spark, mourn his loss and pray that one day we may see his like again.... Just Imagine.......... See more
