25.01.2022 Yesterday was the first ANZAC Day in almost 30 years that our organisation was unable to perform at a Dawn Service. The Dawn Services are a time the band can give back to the community and is always such an honour for all of our members to be a part of. However not all was lost, multiple members from both BMCB and MYB got out onto their driveways and balconies to play The Last Post for their neighbours and street. We had Trumpets, Clarinets, Saxophones, French Horn, Flutes, T...rombones and even a Violin. Thank you all for keeping the ANZAC Spirit alive and doing yourselves proud. https://www.bmcb.net.au//04/25/anzac-driveway-dawn-service/

24.01.2022 Mountains Youth Band performing at Buckland Retirement Village today

23.01.2022 Hi Everyone, With ANZAC Day approaching, and the community efforts of musicians around Australia (including many of our own members) to support the commemoration efforts by playing the Last Post and Rouse on their driveways at 6am on ANZAC Day, I thought I would share some resources for everyone. I think it would be amazing if we can get as many people as possible to join in with performing the Last Post and Rouse, not just Trumpeters or even brass players, but woodwind too.... Here is a link to the sheet music in its original form: https://anzacday.org.au/sheet-music-for-bugle-calls I have also created a some simplified versions for my own students (woodwind parts included) which you are more than welcome to use. They are located here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AviO-FI00TTwgtour84ytYfD8auN6g?e=SCPZ5B Tenor Sax can use the Alto Sax part, Clarinets (and Bass Clarinet) can use the Trumpet part. In that link is also some videos that I created to teach the music to my students, this may be helpful to anyone that hasnt played the pieces before, but especially to less experienced brass players as I give some tips (alternate fingerings) to make them easier. Families can also perform together, Tenor Sax would just need to use the Trumpet Part (goes down to low C), French Horn will need to use the Horn in F (Low) part, other brass would need to play as written (original fingering). Practise lots, and have fun! Cheers, Andrew

23.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce 2 new scholarships with the Mountains Youth Band! A Percussion Scholarship in partnership with Stormer Music and a Low Brass Scholarship. The Scholarships provides the recipient with substantial private tuition subsidies. Tuition for percussion students will be provided by Stormer Music, whereas the Low Brass tuition will be provided by a highly skilled private tutor appointed by Blue Mountains Concert Band from our extensive list of local speciali...sed tutors. These scholarships are primarily aimed at students that dont currently have private tuition on those instruments. However the terms and conditions of the scholarship (available on our website) does provide scope for the recipient of the Low Brass Scholarship to receive the subsidy with their current tutor, so all students are encouraged to apply. Eligibility: Young people who are residents of the Blue Mountains and Nepean regions who are enrolled at school between Years 5 and 10 in 2019, have a demonstrated level of musical interest and aptitude and are prepared to make a musical commitment to their community through membership of the Mountains Youth Band. Selection: The scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who demonstrates suitable musical ambition, commitment and aptitude. All short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview accompanied by parent(s)/guardian(s) and present an audition piece or undertake a suitability assessment (e.g. drum test) as appropriate Application Procedure: Application forms, terms and conditions can be obtained via email to the Mountains Youth Band Administrator [email protected] OR through our website https://www.bmcb.net.au/ Closing date is 27th September 2019.
