18.01.2022 Eyelash extensions - What are they and types of lashes From Wikipedia Eyelash extensions are a cosmetic application used to enhance the length, curl, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. The extensions may be made from several materials including mink, silk, synthetic, human or horsehair. The main method of applying the extensions is by using a cyanoacrylate adhesive to apply the extension(s) to the natural lash 1-2 mm from the base of the natural eyelash, never maki...ng contact with the eyelid. Types and style of lashes Originally false lashes were made of acrylic resin, however, over time the materials have improved and nowadays false lashes are made of a special plastic fiber called Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT). PBT is heated and then molded into the desired lash shape. Lashes that are made from this material are strong and have a natural glossy sheen. Moreover, they also retain their curl better. False eyelashes and semi-permanent eyelash extensions both enhance the length and volume of eyelashes, although they differ in various ways. Classic lashes are a 1:1 ratio of one extension applied to one natural lash. Hybrid lashes are classic lashes and volume fan lashes mixed together. Volume lashes are 2-6 thin eyelash extensions that make a fan shape to allow for a look of full fluffy lashes. Mega volume lashes are 10 or more super-thin eyelash extensions. Pre-made fans are ready-made volume eyelash extensions. They are arranged on the sticker strip for easy pick-up and quick application. Hybrid Lashes - The hybrid set involves both classic individual eyelash extensions and volume fans mixed together for the ultimate in fluffy, textured lashes. Also referred to as a ‘mixed set’, they offer a thicker, denser look than classic lashes, but without the uniformity and softness of a typical Russian volume set. Temporary false lashes Temporary false lashes are applied with temporary lash glue and are not designed to be worn when showering, sleeping or swimming. The lashes come as individuals, clusters, and most commonly, lash strips. The magnetic lashes work by placing the magnetic false lash between one's eyelashes, thereby sandwiching in natural eyelashes with the magnetic eyelashes. When using a glue method, you smear the glue on the false lash, let it settle in for 30 seconds and then press it against the top root of your eyelashes until the glue has dried enough. McCabe wrote The National Encyclopædia of Business and Social Forms, where, in the section "Laws of Etiquette," he stated that eyelashes could be lengthened by cutting the ends with a pair of scissors. Other beauty books, such as My Lady's Dressing Room (1892) by Baronne Staffe and Beauty's Aids or How to be Beautiful (1901) by Countess C also state that the trimming of eyelashes along with the use of the pomade Trikogene b...enefit eyelash growth. Countess C also suggested that eyelashes can be given extra length and strength by washing them every evening with a mixture of water and walnut leaves. In 1882, Henry Labouchère of Truth reported that "Parisians have found out how to make false eyelashes" by having hair sewn into the eyelids.[3] A similar report appeared in the July 6, 1899 edition of The Dundee Courier which described the painful method for elongating the lashes. The headline of which read, "Irresistible Eyes May Be Had by Transplanting the Hair." The article explained how the procedure achieved longer lashes by having hair from the head sewn into the eyelids. In 1902, German-born hair specialist and noted inventor Charles Nessler, (aka Karl Nessler or Charles Nestle) patented " A New or Improved Method of and Means for the Manufacture of Artificial Eyebrows, Eyelashes and the like" in the United Kingdom. By 1903, he began selling artificial eyelashes at his London salon on Great Castle Street. He used the profits from his sales to fund his next invention, the permanent wave machine. A permanent wave machine was commonly called a perm that involves the use of heat and/or chemicals to break and reform the cross-linking bonds of the hair structure. 13.01.2022 I wanted to inspire you all today and thought I'd share a bit about my own health challenges with Breast Cancer in 2008. This picture is of my son, Terence, and I at the Mothers' Day Breast Cancer walk in May 2010. That was 1.5 years after my diagnosis and surgery and treatments and 10 years ago!! I am inspired by my Family and Friends who supported me during this time and every single year up till 2 years ago, when I duly attended mammograms appointments to check my breasts... for tumors! I found those appointments very traumatic as I would enter a time-travel memory of the day I was diagnosed! However, I am a survivor and am here 12 years later breast cancer free...and that is why I am so passionate about health and wellbeing!! I believe my breast cancer was due to very high levels of stress caused by my environment at the time. We all need to look after our health and mental health at all times. Remove yourselves from any negativity especially the dark kind!!! It may be difficult BUT your body and mind will thank you one day!!! 06.01.2022 I AM INSPIRED BY BREAST CANCER SURVIORS and here is a story from one of these amazing women: Remembering that October is breast cancer awareness month worldwide! Being told that you have breast cancer usually comes as a shock. Whatever your situation, and however you’re feeling about it, it is important to know that breast cancer has a high survival rate, and most people go on to lead enjoyable lives. ... Women and men have kindly offered their stories and messages in the hope that they will give you the inspiration to face your fears and to live your life with hope and determination. For Shirley, being involved in her local sporting club reaped rewards throughout her breast cancer experience. "When I tried croquet three years ago at the Nambour Croquet Club I took an instant liking to the game. The form of the game I play is ‘golf croquet’, which is a shorter, merrier game of about 45 minutes. It is a very good introduction to other forms of croquet which are ‘Association’ and ‘Ricochet’. Very shortly after I began playing I was diagnosed with early breast cancer and began my treatment which involved chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Needless to say, many things changed. However, happily I was able to continue playing croquet (except for the times I was actually making visits to the hospital or very tired after radiotherapy). The friendly bunch at our club scarcely turned a hair when I lost mine, as so many of them hadn’t much hair themselves anyway! I found the activity and maintaining the friendships I had forged helped considerably to remain positive and energized during the course of my treatment. Remaining a playing member of the croquet club also meant that I continued to improve my game and it got me started bright and early in the out-of-doors. I am very pleased that I remained active in my sport after my diagnosis and treatment.
