25.01.2022 Oh baby, its been a VERY busy morning in our new acute services building with 13 babies transferred to Newborn Care, our first mum-to-be arriving in the Maternity Assessment Centre, our last bub born in the old Birthing unit, and were now awaiting the arrival of our first baby in the new A62 Birthing ward! Congrats to all our staff and families on a great move this morning!

25.01.2022 Thank you to Brendan Kerin for taking us through a very moving Smoking Ceremony this morning. He described the event as an opportunity to honour the past and embrace a fresh start, together. At the end of a ceremony, Brendan always places the remaining ashes in the local ground, ensuring the energy and spirit of the ceremony stays anchored to place. But this morning, the wind had already carried the story of our ceremony out across the campus, scattering the remaining ash into the gardens, and leaving the bucket completely empty.

25.01.2022 If you think these giraffes are cute, wait till you see our Newborn Care bubbas. Our team is moving to the new unit today and these colourful giraffes will be waiting for babies transferring from the existing nursery to the new one. The new cots are also called Giraffes (because if their shape) so its giraffes all round today!

25.01.2022 Our new Emergency is due to open soon, but weve had our first patient. Emergency head A/Prof Reza Ali was our test patient this morning and he put on quite a performance about getting tests done and wanting to know his blood pressure. Our Emergency staff had quite a few suggestions about his condition but patient confidentiality prevents us from sharing them!

25.01.2022 Blacktown Hospital Emergency is moving to the new building tomorrow, so if you need the emergency care, just follow the signs. Theres a new emergency-only drop-off, pick-up, entry and parking area via Marcel Crescent. And please remember, keep your emergency department for serious illnesses or injuries which require urgent attention. For a map and more information visit our website http://bit.ly/BlacktownEmergency

24.01.2022 It was the last of our Women's & Children's Health moves today and they were big ones - 10 ladies from Women's Health and 30 from Maternity. Good thing we were prepared with spacious rooms, en-suites, patient lounges, and a welcome gift of waffle-weave slippers and hand cream! Congratulations to the project team, move team, department staff, our ladies and their families on a great day!

24.01.2022 It wasn’t just the babies who were new at Blacktown Hospital today. We also opened our new Perioperative Services centre with about 90 staff rostered on over three shifts, completing up to ten urgent surgeries today as they finalised the setup and familiarisation the new unit, ready to ramp back up to full capacity later this week. They also moved into their new activity based working space, which includes a spacious kitchen/diner. There may have been pizza.

23.01.2022 Blacktowns Birthing team moves to the new building tomorrow and this cheeky monkey will be waiting to welcome the first bub born in the new unit with a gift pack including a copy of Mem Foxs classic book Time For Bed. All we need now is a baby! Stay tuned for updates tomorrow...

22.01.2022 "Thank you for your care, your diligence and your patience in looking after our baby. As first time parents, that our baby cant come home with us breaks our heart, but because of the support provided by all of you, we can face each day knowing our baby is in the very best of hands. You have given us strength, comfort and hope. We can only gift you flowers and our eternal gratitude." Newborn Care NUM Terry shared this lovely thank you card with us today. Congratulations to the dedicated team in Newborn Care. Terry also told us how excited the parents are about the new facilities, the light, the space, and Martha Jabours colourful mandala artworks. Day Two, big tick!

22.01.2022 Flashback Friday. In 1966, Blacktowns Central Sterile Supply Dept used modern methods. Fast forward to 2019 and its now state-of-the-art.

Thanks to Frank and his family for letting us be there when she was transferred to the ward in the afternoon. And thanks to all the staff who were part of the last day.
