23.01.2022 A message from Showcase: Showcase 2020 To all potential contestants, their parents, and music teachers. The changes we are all experiencing as a society due to corona-virus are making us all rethink our daily lives to manage risk. For us at Showcase we are also concerned about our core business: Showcase: fostering Jewish musical talent.... We are concerned that our children are going through a challenging time. Schools are shut and students are instructed to spend their days in an online classroom from their bedrooms. Sporting teams and clubs have stopped meeting, training and playing. Children and young people have been having online music lessons. I think there are other young people out there trying to keep up with their music. Showcase is a key Bnai Brith project. The Showcase committee was established in 1985 to encourage young people to continue their musical pursuits. We are committed to continue that work. The Showcase committee recognises that we must adapt to changing circumstances and we are currently considering our options. We do not need to cancel Showcase 2020. The Showcase committee will review the situation in May as to our final format for 2020. In particular, we are investigating providing an Online Showcase 2020 consisting of scheduled online appointments with our adjudicators and committee. The competitors can perform at home and have a conversation with our adjudicator. At the end of the Online Heats, competitors will receive awards to celebrate their talent, according to the adjudicators decision. Dear teachers, families and friends, trust us to find a way to adapt to changing circumstances. The Showcase committee is a volunteer group comprising of retired professionals. If you have the expertise to support us to run an Online Showcase 2020, please let us know via the website. We welcome your opinion and your feedback. Over the next few weeks we are going to try a pilot of an online format for all the heats to be held in August. If you would like to participate in this home based trial to help us test the quality of online performance, please let us know through our website: [email protected] or the Bnai Brith office phone 95230888. We hope to put in place a structure for Online Showcase 2020 in place. This week the booklets, flyers, website and advertising boards are being released in the traditional format on the website. Please fill in the two forms, Entry Form and Consent Form, and encourage Showcase 2020 to find a new way to foster Jewish musical talent. Music can help raise everyones spirits during the difficult times ahead. Judy Firestone Chair of Showcase 2020
