25.01.2022 PROHIBITED WEEDS With its diffused and fibrous roots, Serrated Tussock has a long lifespan and seedlings of this weed are difficult to pull out of the soil.... Dense infestations of this weed can pose a serious fire hazard with a recorded burn intensity of up to seven times greater than native grasslands. Prevention of infestations is the best option for weed control. To minimise the risks you can: Ensure imported fodder, grain, gravel, sand and soil is free of seed contamination before purchase, sale or movement All vehicles and equipment should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any soil, seed or parts of the plant before leaving infested areas and before being allowed to enter areas that are free of the weed Weed-free buffer zones should be maintained between infested and non-infested land For more information about weed control, visit Agriculture Victoria at www.agriculture.vic.gov.au.

21.01.2022 Four straight days of 'BioBlitzing' has come to an end. The Great Southern BioBlitz was an amazing collaboration of biologists, environmentalist and nature lovers, coming together to observe and identify the magnificent biodiversity across our planet's southern hemisphere. I've been furiously photographing and cataloguing species of insect, birds, plants, fungi and mammals in our area - it became quite addictive and competitive! The results are still coming in, but... the BNGLN are currently sitting in the top 20 (behind the likes of Cape Town, Sydney, Melbourne and some South American groups)! . . . . #bioblitz #nature #biodiversity #environment #planetearth #landcare #maketheworldabetterplace @gsbioblitz See more

07.01.2022 As pretty as this plant looks, it's not a native! This is St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum), a regionally controlled weed in our area. It's coming into flower now, and it's seeds spread via several vectors: including cultivation activity, and machinery and animal movement. It's up to Landholders to control these weeds. If you spot this species on your property, or need more information on this species, or need further assistance to identify it, please message me so t...hat we can keep track of it's spread. . . . . #weeds #landcare #volunteers #farmers #community #farming #victoria #australia #biodiversity #helping #helpinghands #weedcontrol #northcentralvictoria #wimmera #agriculture #stjohnswort See more
