24.01.2022 Second day on the road and we covered 43 kilometres, making it to Montjean. We cant convey how peaceful and beautiful the riverside trails are or how amazing the quaint little towns with narrow streets. The Loire water level seems very low with extensive sandbanks in places. After riding for over four hours, our butts needed a rest! Luckily found a restaurant on the edge of river for lunch - it was packed but they squeezed us in and we stumbled through the classic French menu choices fortunately picking two delicious courses for 11 euros. Another hour to Montjean, where locals again guided to a perfect BnB - Les Cedres, or the The Cedars. Used to be the doctors house - very old and elegant with beautiful gardens. Tomorrow we hope to get about 40kms to Angers.

22.01.2022 Day 12 - Friday in Tours Museum of the Compagnonnage top of our list to see this day - a society of trade guilds and the museum recognises all the skills, with models of everything from cake making, rattan, printing, stone, plumbing, metal and timberwork. The models are mostly very old and exquisite workmanship. Sadly, many of these skills are gone now. Some of the models take thousands of hours to build, particularly the timber work. Next on to the Botanical gardens bit average except they have emus wallabies and flamingos. Then on to the old quarter for the afternoon and dinner the area was humming and the food great.

22.01.2022 Day 8 8th October, 2018 Great to stay on here in Montsoreau today a very relaxing day - caught up on some work, then explored this lovely little village and the next one, Candes St Martin. The church there has a memorial to St Martin who was buried there in the year 397!!! Riding our bikes around without the panniers was so easy, we followed the mysterious signs pointing to panorama and made it to the highest point overlooking the confluence of the Loire and the Vien...ne rivers below. Arriving back down we were asked by a Canadian lady (cycling alone for 10 weeks in many countries on a hired bike), how far to the Panorama? We suggested she have coffee with us instead, as it was a crazy, long haul with her loaded bike. She told us about the ease of cycling in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands they have a much stronger cycling culture, compared to France, so weve now decided to take the bikes back to Germany with us on Saturday, (not leave them here), and maybe do a ride in one of those countries next year. The choices are unlimited then. See more

22.01.2022 Tomorrows webinar. Monday 30th July: Boarding Fundamentals part 2 http://boardingtrainingaustralia.com.au/

21.01.2022 I have written this blog because it is challenging for Boarding schools and residences to justify their ratio of staff to boarders, particularly in the event of a serious incident. The Australian Boarding School Standard states Requirements relating to boarder care and supervision shall include risk management processes used to determine ratios of trained staff to boarders for all circumstances. This blog explores the meaning of this statement and the implications?... There is a range of factors to take into account, but if boarding providers are seeking to achieve the Boarding Standard, then they need to use a risk management process to determine the ratio of trained staff to boarders, in all circumstances. This blog is Part One and unpacks how that might occur. https://boardingtrainingaustralia.com.au/boarding-ratios-a/

20.01.2022 Have your say about training for Boarding staff. BTA (Boarding Training Australia) are asking for your feedback about training for boarding staff in Boarding schools and residence. Your input will help us meet the training needs of boarding providers; Boarding Schools and residences. This survey has just 4 questions and should only take a few minutes at most. So - Please do us a favour and do this survey!! Thank you

17.01.2022 We wish you a great Christmas with family and friends, and a safe restful holiday period. - BTA Team

16.01.2022 Day 6: Cycled through a lot of horse country - Horses are a big deal in this part of France with big national horse training colleges, including cadre noir. The Velo (cycle) route took us inland away from the river and up lots of hills quite hard work. When we came to the long downhill section back to the Loire we broke all speed records (35+ kph) threw caution to the wind! We stayed in a real Chateau, built about 1850 and very Grande all marble and 20 foot ceilings, huge sweeping staircase and exquisite chandeliers. Horse theme throughout even monogrammed onto towels.

I know all of these people (I am there too!) and they are caring, knowledgeable professionals. They can work by themselves or in teams if required. They all have decades of experience and are proficient consultants. 11.01.2022 First day on the road and 28.5 kilometres along the Loire River. Much of the trail, or Velo route from Nantes is quite rural through farming land and villages. We stopped at Oudon, a small village with a central castle and lots of houses covered in colourful Virginia creeper. The helpful Bolangerie lady (bakery very prolific in France) found a place for us to stay we have the whole bottom floor of a lovely French villa for 50 Euros and that includes breakfast. The bikes ...have been perfect. We tried to buy bikes on the French version of Gumtree, but it was very hard to get people and the prices were high. We went to a huge store called Decathalon and bought new B-twin bikes, 28 inch, front suspension, light aluminium frame and wheels, and 9 gears. (219 Euros and 290 euros). We are hoping to leave the bikes in France so we can use them in the future, and they will be available for family and friends to use. (So start planning!!) See more

11.01.2022 Third day and 42kms. Started out along an island in the river and some great tracks through vineyards, small towns and beside the river. More difficult to get accommodation because we are near the city of Angers but now have great apartment close to the Loire. The ambulance was an older walker! Not us!!

11.01.2022 Webinars start on 25th February. Enrol now!

11.01.2022 Day 10 Wednesday 10 Oct Breakfast at Rivarennes was the typical French spread fresh croissants and bagettes with a choice of 7 different home-made jams - such a tasty array! The sun shone on us as we rode 20 easy kms to Villandry one rough section of very old cobblestones and a crazy giant nest with egg! Then lunch at the best chateau we have ever seen, and a lovely surprise to meet up again with Sharon, the Canadian cyclist! The story of Villandry Chateau is fascinatin...g. Joachim, a penniless medical researcher from Spain, working with a Nobel prize winner in France, took on a research student from USA (Ann) and ended up falling in love with her and marrying in 1899. She was the daughter of wealthy industrialists and was super rich! In 1906 they bought Villandry Castle (built in 1536), mainly to display their huge art collection, then left their medical research to create a real Renaissance garden. Jaochim and Anns grandson now owns and operates the castle. The castle is very impressive but there are no words to describe, how immense, beautiful and colourful this garden is. Its inspired us to re-think our own garden, which is much in need of a face-lift! Also, loving the Virginia creeper colours in every village we wander through. See more

11.01.2022 Day 11 Thursday 11th Oct, Villandry to Tours Autumn leaves and windfall walnuts decorated the cycle paths today. We followed the Indres River for just 21 kms, so we took our time, stopping first for a coffee, then for our baguette snack, where we found the ground strewn with walnuts after last nights storm. So much beauty on every side we didnt want to get to Tours, the end of our ride for this year. It used to be the capital of the Gallic-Roman kingdom of France some ...extraordinarily ornate buildings, and a University city now. Our Airbnb is a little out of the centre so caught the train into Centreville, thinking we had the train system mastered, but were stopped by the ticket checkers as we got off, and told off for not validating our tickets as we got on!! Fortunately, they saw our genuine surprise and we vowed to always validate before riding from now on! We found a supermarche and bought up fruit, vegies and pork chops, keen to cook our own dinner for the first time in 2 weeks! Freshly cracked walnuts for dessert - very sweet but hard to crack without a nutcracker! See more

09.01.2022 Boarding Training Australia is on the move (Janelle is keeping the Esperance office afloat). We have bought bikes and are about to head off from Nantes up the Loire Valley. Nantes (pronounced Nont) is such a random place. Jules Verne lived here and some of the weird and wonderful things here are inspired by his tales. It is on the Loire river and very beautiful, with lots of amazing buildings and history. We will be working every morning so will keep up with your assessments and questions.

07.01.2022 If you are involved in Student Boarding (Boarding schools & Residences) you have probably wondered how you could justify your staff to boarding student ratio, particularly in the event of a serious incident. This paper sets out a clear process for determining the correct ratios for your boarding context. http://boardingtrainingaustralia.com.au//Boarding_ratio_fi Or email [email protected] Appreciate any feedback to continue to improve the process.

02.01.2022 Day 7: Left our Chateau and went to church all in French but the people were very nice and welcoming. Headed along the Loire to Montsoreau. Nice easy ride from Samur and the rain held off. We had been warned that this was one of the most beautiful parts of France but we were still surprised so much history, such weird and wonderful, like all the house built into the limestone cliffs, so many caves, the beautiful narrow winding streets filled will all manner of exquisite houses. We went into a troglodyte mushroom farm and museum, all underground in the caves. Quite amazing. We are staying here for a couple of nights in a very old little house just metres from the Loire
