21.01.2022 Flow frame deep waxing. Weve been doing deep waxing for quite a while now with consistent success. Bees go investigating as soon as we put the frames down! We found they start working the frames normally within a few days compared to weeks when they are raw.

18.01.2022 Crush & strain method of extracting honey. We have got a system down pact that can do 12 frames in one go that will cost $120. Cheaper then an extractor with less wax residue. It will be available 15/02/2020. I will keep you posted once in stock.

18.01.2022 Ivanhoe girls. A beautiful open nest in Ivanhoe, these were some of the sweetest & calmest bees Ive ever collected. After trimming the branches they went straight to the Poly-hive (which we sell). Pick up at 21:20pm and into quarantine until we know they AE healthy and happy

16.01.2022 Autumn Swarm. These beautiful little girls decided they needed social isolation so decided to do a mini swarm in Doreen, slightly bigger than a can of soft drink. Thank you John, they are now in isolation with a few drawn frames and 4kg of 2:1 sugar syrup. @ Doreen, Victoria, Australia

15.01.2022 Please feed your bees or get a Professional beekeeper to do it for you.

15.01.2022 Making creamed honey starter. Hours of mesmerising fun.

14.01.2022 Research girls are nicer than Ivanhoe! These cheeky ladies looked like they were in the ceiling but were actually in the eaves. Very gentle and well behaved. In quarantine now as I found a fair few hive beetles. 98.3% live with my bee vacuum and fancy cordless 18v @Makita vacuum!... 9.8kg comb/honey 13,200 bees @ Research, Victoria, Australia See more

13.01.2022 How to save a bee

12.01.2022 Need I say more.... I put all the new Nucs into our 15mm & 18mm ply Nuc boxes this morning, the girls were very thankful but I was glad I was fully suited up

12.01.2022 I had a few enquiries on the process of a chimney extract as some clients were told they would have to knock down their chimney if there was a bee nest. That is not true if you know what you are doing. Here is a few pics of the process. @ Surrey Hills, Victoria

11.01.2022 Wax moth/bald brood. I was called out for a wintering inspection. The colony was strong but the outer frames had a wax moth and bald brood as a result (drones primarily as the cells are higher). I dont call it an infestation as it was very manageable. As there was brood we didnt want to freeze the frames and replace after a couple of days so we placed the frame closer to the middle where more activity was.... 2nd inspection 5 days later and they removed the larvae. Now to freeze all external honey frames and replace...repeat. See more

11.01.2022 SHB Infestation in a strong colony. I was called out to do a Wintering inspection because the girls were throwing out pupae. Girls were cleaning out small hive beetle larvae from cells as quickly as they could. Girls & Queen were strong and healthy so we moved the colony to a new hive, fed them with syrup and froze the frames we could spare. So far so good .... Do a FULL INSPECTION before winter and make sure they have enough food! See more

10.01.2022 Wax moth & small hive beetle (SHB) are common pests that will generally be managed by a strong colony. Ive found an interesting way to find larvae when collecting pollen in our Poly-hive pollen collector that sits in the base. One week is enough to find the little buggers. When you freeze the pollen and associated frames, it will kill them all.

08.01.2022 Yes Spring is nearly upon us and more Nuc reservations are coming through. We have Commercial quality Nucs which will be available early October 2020, DM if you would like to reserve one $250 5F new queen. If you need to do a Bee beginner course, here is one of the best ones we know... These get booked out quicksmart .... https://beekeepers.org.au/event-3887519

07.01.2022 SHB infestation- follow up. A week after I cleaned up that hive with the severe hive beetle infestation, the girls are flourishing. Queen is laying, grubs are growing and there are very few beetles or larvae. Not sure if the vented bottom board did a big difference as it was pretty clean.

07.01.2022 Some sweet girls from Ivanhoe. These were some of the calmest beautiful bees Ive had to rescue. They were in this tree in an open hive for at least 3 months without bothering the owner even though the were literally next to the gate!

06.01.2022 Why extermination of bees is not effective for a nest. This cut out in Eltham was done for a family who moved in 6 weeks ago. Previous owners exterminated the bees which only lasted the settlement period. I pulled out 40 kg of comb/honey which was putrefied by wax moth & SHB. Luckily we got to it before the wasps settled in.

05.01.2022 Hive inspection - this one was the total opposite of the Wallan girls. Healthy, busy, eggs and brood everywhere. D in Diamond Creek has done a great job from a first Nuc last September. We found a few keen healthy SHB which we tested with a couple of chux & a trap. Most exciting was we found a sassy Queen looking back at us.

05.01.2022 Its STARTED My first hive inspection of the season for a lovely client in Wallan. The wet winter has caused mould and slugs to live with the girls.....but they are healthy and laying.
