16.01.2022 "It's not about the ass, it's about the brain" Lena Dunham posted this recently about her struggle with anxiety and depression and the benefits of exercise. "It...'s mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen. Glad I did." When anxiety hits, we get a surge of stress hormones. These hormones are designed to get us moving - fight or flight baby! When we do, our hormones subside and we're back to calm. But.. often we sit at our desks continuing to work. Our bodies need to offload the build-up of stress hormones because they send us into overdrive. Causing further anxiety, overwhelm, and mood changes. (....and the anxiety about anxiety mental loop!) Even just getting out during the day for a walk. Studies have shown a 20-30min walk most days will reduce anxiety and depression. There are many great strategies to 'manage' anxiety. But there are also ways to stop the anxiety altogether so we can free up our day without being exhausted trying to 'manage' our state of mind and the after-effects of stress hormones.
