22.01.2022 Australian netballer and mum-to-be, Gretel Tippet, and Daniel Rich from the Brisbane Lions, are both Reformer Pilates enthusiasts, and for good reason! In recent years, Reformer Pilates has turned into a popular addition to traditional training programs for professional athletes and weekend warriors alike. This physical and mental practice helps achieve the balance of strength between the supporting or stabilising muscles, and the more dynamic or moving muscles. As such,... it teaches your body to generate power from the right muscles and develops strength through the full length of the muscle. So, why is this so important for athletes? It all has to do with movement patterns. As the body’s movement patterns improve, tightness and stiffness decrease allowing you to become more efficient at moving. This then leads to an increase in stamina, less muscle fatigue and a decreased risk of injury. The result: Superior performance. The mental focus that Reformer Pilates requires also trains professional athletes to remain focused during stressful situations, such as during a big game.

16.01.2022 #TECHTIP // Triceps on for this weeks tech tip! 1 Tricep press - Press the hips forwards into a modified plank position so theres one straight line between knees, hips and shoulders. Start with hands shoulder width apart, core engaged with neutral spine positioning, head looking straight down between the hands. Keep the rest of the body still as you bend the elbows whilst simultaneously pressing the carriage out. Aim to keep your shoulders directly above your elbows as ...you bend, keeping the elbows tucked in by the waist. Return the carriage as you press up until hands are under shoulders again. 2 Tricep wheel - Maintain the same body position, keeping the arms straight as you press the carriage away, whilst keeping the shoulders pulled back and down (make sure the movement is just from the shoulder joint). Keep the chest low as you bend the elbows to draw the carriage in, keeping them tucked in by your waist again. Draw in til the hands are under the shoulders before you press up, keeping the chest lifted. 3 Continuous tricep push-up - Keep the carriage still with hands under shoulders, and continuously bend and press for your final tricep burner @stephbairpilates working on 3/4 spring See more

16.01.2022 Sunset on the farm!

15.01.2022 FACT, approximately 54% of Australian women do not meet the physical activity guidelines of 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each week. If we break down 150 minutes over the week into our daily requirement, this works out to be roughly 21.5 minutes per day. So why is a minimum of 21.5 minutes of exercise each day so important?... Undertaking regular strength and aerobic exercise is critical for many reasons, but our top reasons include: 1. Preventing chronic disease (i.e. Diabetes, Heart Disease and Cancer) 2. Building bone strength to prevent Osteoporosis 3. Improving mental health, reducing incidences of Anxiety and Depression

11.01.2022 A little BTS look at a full private prenatal session with the lovely @jess_kent91, working to maintain fitness, strength and mobility throughout her third pregnancy Each and every pregnancy is different, and what works for one may not work for the next person. This is why individualisation is so important, and why we request all prenatal clients to be screened with an initial consultation before entering group classes, as this allows for a full assessment of contraindications to be applied in classes. And for those wanting or needing extra individual attention, private sessions are always available to keep you moving in the safest of ways, with exercise tailored specifically to you by our Exercise Physiologists. @chur.media @jordan.kahu

11.01.2022 How about the stability on these lovely ladies working single arm triceps There are plenty more ways than one to work the core + core stability, and we make sure to find every single one to give you the most bang for buck in your reformer sessions But dont be scared, we always make sure to give options to regress/advance exercises so you can ensure youre working at your own pace and level

10.01.2022 #TECHTIP // A twist on a roll back to incorporate added quadriceps strengthening, pelvic + core control Plus a big ol burn for the abdominals 1 Start seated with the feet on the carriage and bottom on the platform, arms reach straight out in front. Roll back into a c curve, scooping through the belly so ribs and hips connect together, whilst simultaneously lifting one leg and bending the leg that stays on the carriage. Ensure lower ab activation but drawing the belly b...utton in so that theres no bulging through the midline. Go for 3 carriage leg presses before rolling back up and switching. 2 Oblique openings - Repeat same roll back/leg lift motion, adding in an opening. Keep pelvis heavy and maintain abdominal scoop as you open, looking towards the direction youre rotating. Inhale to open, exhale to close. @stephbairpilates working on 1 full spring! See more

10.01.2022 As a male, it can be difficult talking about your problems below the belt. Movember is all about being proactive and bringing awareness to men’s health. In Australia, prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men and takes 3,500 lives every year. Alarmingly, more men die from prostate cancer than women from breast cancer. Being alert and proactive about your health is crucial for combating prostate cancer. Routine tests and early detection helps ensure a...ppropriate measures are taken. In fact, there are often no symptoms during its early stages. Health professionals recommend that all men over the ages of 50 have a chat with their GP about their prostate health. Men with a family history or African/Caribbean descent are at higher risks and therefore should consider this at 45. Changes to your body are normal as you approach your twilight years. Although, there are particular symptoms of prostate cancer that you need to be aware of. Examples of these signs include: Increased frequency of urination Painful ejaculation Blood in urine and semen Difficulty urinating Relentless back, hip and thigh pain. Movember is a month where we can stop the premature death of men all over the world. Being proactive about your prostate health is so vital for preventing escalation and maintaining your health. You too can help Movember’s cause by sharing this post or tagging a mate to spread this message. Prevention is always better than cure.

09.01.2022 As part of womens health week we will be acknowledging some of our super star women! Anita has been coming in consistently for over 3 years, attending both Pilates and gym strength sessions for healthy ageing and management of her Osteoporosis. More commonly affecting women , Osteoporosis is a silent killer and many women may not even know they have the condition until they suffer a fracture . This is why it is so important for women to take ...action and engage in regular strength training to load their bones, increase strength, reduce falls risk and continue to live life on their own terms. Anita knows this and always makes time for her weekly sessions because she knows that if you dont use it, you will lose it! All of Anitas hard work has paid off as her recent DEXA scan has showed an increase in bone mineral density meaning a decreased risk of fractures. Way to go Anita! Keep up the hard work See more

04.01.2022 Did you know that your balance starts to decline as early as 40 years of age?! The reality is, most adults dont think about their balance until they have a fall, which quite often could have been easily prevented by including balance and falls prevention into their exercise regime Our superstar client, Rob, suffers from peripheral neuropathy in his feet and toes as a result of chemotherapy, making regaining balance and sensation in his toes essential in reducing his falls risk! Physical therapy is often used to combat neuropathy, as it helps to improve balance, gait, fine motor skills, dexterity, and coordination, all of which decrease the risk of falls and injuries that can result from neuropathy. @bodysmartoncology

03.01.2022 R U OK? Asking the question to a friend, colleague or family member could be life changing, but this R U OK Day, were being encouraged to say more. You dont need to be an expert to do that - just a good friend and a great listener. If you find that someone is struggling with lifes ups and downs, keep the conversation going:... Thats tough. Keep talking. Im listening. Have you been feeling this way for a while? What can I do right now to support you? Particularly during COVID-19, its more important than ever to meaningfully connect with those around you who are doing it tough, take the time to listen, encourage action, and check-in regularly. If you sense somethings not quite right, trust your gut and ask R U OK?
