24.01.2022 How to work from home As a home based worker it’s important to note that working from home has its advantages and disadvantages compared to working in an office. First and foremost you need to ensure you have the right mindset! It is likely that you will find yourself being more productive at home compared to being in the office. ... Get up and get ready for work, being in your work clothes will help you switch from home mode to work mode. Set up a quiet space where you can focus on what you need to be doing. Not everyone has a home office so if you end up at the dinning room table or the kitchen bench, make sure you aren’t going to be distracted (get the dishes done the night before!). Time flies even working at home. Time block your day so that you stay committed to working on the projects and tasks that you need to. Video conference meetings are a great substitute for face to face meetings. Set yourself up so you are comfortable, wear solid colours (patterns can look fuzzy on the other end). Ensure that everything in the range of your webcam is professional looking. Ensure children and pets are entertained away from the webcam and speaker. Stay connected with your team through your preferred channels - teams / slack / google hangout / WhatsApp / email / etc. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. This will also help by getting up and moving each hour! Take your lunch break. It’s important to still take your break even when you are at home. You need that time to help reset your mind so you can focus for the afternoon. Get outside for some sunshine! When you don’t have to commute, it’s easy to stay inside all day. Getting out into the backyard or any outdoor space available to you will help refresh yourself for the next task on your list. I love working from home, but it’s not for everyone, especially when it’s forced upon you! Each day will present a new challenge and a new triumph! We will all get through this crazy time and will evaluate what we do and why we do it! Some of the aspects of my business that light me up are:... Supporting busy professionals to be organised Forward planning to be ready for the next big thing Completing a big task Playing with presentations (yes its fun for me!) With self isolation becoming the norm it’s a great time to chip away at some of those tasks that have been on your to do list for a while: Business Get to inbox zero Organise your files... Set up templates that will inturn make life easier in the future: - agendas - presentations - SOPs - letters - proposals - forms - minutes - reports Professional Development - have you brought a course but just haven’t started it yet? Social Media - plan your socials out for the rest of the year. You can still be spontaneous but at least you will have a base and foundation to continue to propel you forward. Personal Sort your wardrobe Make a photo book Get the garden ready for winter Rearrange the furniture Read a book Plan that holiday - do the research for where you really want to go in the future (just because you can’t go now doesn’t mean you stop dreaming and planning) Things will get busy again, if you take the time now you will be ahead of the game when you need to be!
