24.01.2022 From Boisdale & District Progress Assoc. & Boisdale & District History Group: A sad few weeks for the Boisdale Community as we farewell some wonderful local ladies who have been part of and contributed to our communities over many years. We are hoping to have a memorial afternoon tea at the Boisdale Hall when the COVID restrictions are finished, to celebrate the lives of these very special women. Clare Costello (nee McCarthy)... Daughter of the late Jack & Ness McCarthy of Pearce's Lane. Boisdale. Clare was a primary school teacher and taught at Boisdale Consolidated in the 1960's, before marrying Ted and moving to WA. The family relocated back to Maffra many years ago and Clare enjoyed being part of the local community again. Our condolences to Ted and all the family. Marie Walker Our wonderful Marie will always be remembered for her bright, positive outlook and sense of humour, her generosity in welcoming people, especially new residents to the township with a beautiful sponge or slice and her beautiful garden in the Main Street. Marie was a very worthy recipient of the Quiet Achiever Award for Boisdale & District in 2014 and will be sadly missed by all. Trevor and all the family have been a wonderful support to her during her illness and our thoughts are with them all at this sad time. Farewell to a brave and generous lady. And Miss Flo Pearce: Florence Amey Pearce, 101 years was born 9 May 1919 and passed away peacefully at Stretton Park on Tuesday 7th July. Flo lived most of her life at the family farm on Pearce's Lane, only shifting to Maffra in 1994 when the farm was sold. Flo was Boisdale! She belonged to most of the organisations in the community, wrote books about the area, held a wealth of knowledge of the families and buildings and still maintained her love of the area up until her death. She was still an active member of the Boisdale-Briagolong Red Cross, having joined in December 1940, almost 80 years as a volunteer. She was secretary of the Save the Children for 50 years, started the Maffra & District Historical Society and was very involved with the Methodist/Uniting Church and Sunday School at Boisdale. An amazing woman, generous with her time and sharing of knowledge. So pleased we could all share in her 100th birthday celebrations last year. We will miss you Flo. Our thoughts are with her nephews Frank & John, who both live in Queensland, so are unable to attend the funeral.
