19.01.2022 Welcome to #SimonSaysSaturday. IP is an area of law that I love, and it is an essential area to consider when starting a business. You can use patents, copyrights and trademarks to protect your creative ideas and expressions. The struggle with intellectual property is that it is sort of invisible and can be quickly copied by your competitors. Unlike tangible & physical property, you can't build a fence or install a u-beaut security system to protect your IP. Instead, you eith...er have to register your intellectual property or sometimes you are afforded automatic rights of ownership under Australian laws that don't require registration. This is where investing in protections through patents, registered trademarks and displaying your copyright ownership on materials come into play. Trust me when I say that 'future you' will be oh-so thankful for the protective measures you take to secure your IP and your creative ideas now. If your brand, your innovative design, your business name or your logo is valuable to your business, then you have IP worth protecting. I have known many clients who have had their IP infringed, copied or stolen, in Australia and around the globe. Registration helps stop the hassle that goes with fighting for ownership and furnishes you a valuable asset. Anyway, that's just my two cents worth on IP. Reach out if you need some help or want to know more about IP. Enjoy your weekend, Folks! #startups #startingup #weekendthoughts #sidehustle #intellectualproperty #trademarks #copyright #protectingIP #IP See more
18.01.2022 Did you know that how you present your terms and conditions to your clients and customers online can have a significant impact on whether or not they have actually accepted and agreed to those T&Cs?
18.01.2022 One of the trickiest things is figuring out what structure your business should operate under. Every business structure has both pros and cons, and it’s essential to get both your #accountant and #lawyers on board with your business plans early in the piece to identify what is the most tax-effective structure or how to protect your most valuable assets. Each structure has different upfront and ongoing costs. Sole traders are cheap and easy to establish, but trusts with a corp...orate trustee are complex, cost more, but offer more protection and tax flexibility. See why it’s a tricky question? Your structure needs to be suitable for you, your business and your needs. So, to pick a structure for your business, start with these four questions: 1. Will I require protection against any risks associated with my business? 2. Am I looking to trade long term, scale up my business or make the business my 9-5? 3. Am I going to involve a business partner? 4. Are the setup and ongoing costs for each structure realistic for my business, its size and its potential for growth? Our team can help you find the right business structure and prep the relevant docs and complete the registrations to ensure you kickstart your business.
