12.01.2022 FORGING A BRIGHT FUTURE Artisan blacksmiths are keeping the historic forges in Australia alive, including Saxon Nicholls, who is potentially the young...est learning the trade. He volunteers monthly at the Bon Accord Mine, but has also set up his own forge in his back shed in Burra, SA.

07.01.2022 So much to see at the museum. This visitor (Harry) felt exhausted and needed a rest

04.01.2022 HISTORIC RENOVATION A unique house is getting a new lease on life, about 60 years since it was vacated. The former township of Hampton, in South A...ustralia's Mid North, is a collection of ruins, walls, foundations and quarry sites on the outskirts of Burra North. During the town's mining boom, it was a bustling settlement of about 30 dwellings. The majority were simple two or three bedroom cottages built by hand from locally quarried stone for local families. The last two dwellings were vacated in the 1960s and it's remained deserted since. 'Jacka House' has been identified as a significant home in the old township. New windows, ceiling work, door lintels and repointing work is bringing the house back to its former glory. A similar program is set to be held for the heritage-listed Cordillo Downs Station woolshed later this year. The project is support by the Regional Council of Goyder, Construction Industry Training Board (South Australia) and HSR Australia. Mitch Cleghorn
