Start looking into your heart rather than your head. What you are doing, thinking or choosing should be in line with your values and resonate with your heart then other people’s opinions will have a far lesser impact on you. 24.01.2022 Bonjour! Being a kid, junior, tween or teen is not always easy. Unfortunately the last few months have been extra challenging for many. Let’s remind ourselves of the importance and benefits of Exercise - I like to call it Movement - at any age, and especially for our children, right now. ... WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE? As well as improving children’s physical health (e.g., fitness and muscle strength), regular exercise also improves their cognition, brain development and function, and their mental health. Research in physical activity and brain health in children and adolescents indicates that exercise plays an important role in preventing and reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, in helping with stress management, and in improving self-esteem. Additionally, there is some evidence that children who participate in regular exercise at a young age may experience decreased rates of anxiety and depression in childhood and adolescence. Having been in the Fitness and Wellness industry myself for 20 years, I can say that Moving is crucial. But it needs to be something you like, and same for your Children. As part of the Standing Strong program, I like to try dance, shadow boxing, yoga etc..and Simon says!! I insist that it is a non-competitive environment, where we don’t judge and keep an open mind to try new activities. The fundamental reason why I chose to offer the Standing Strong program is to prevent young girls and women to suffer from depression - current statistics says 1 in 3 women will suffer depression in their lifetime, which is a shocking number. We discussed what bullying is (NOT in the context of physical violence /assault which is very different), how it feels to be bullied, what to do etc... 19.01.2022 Is your child jumping out of bed in the morning ready for a new adventure?? Humm..... maybe not every morning right? If not excited, you probably would hope for her to be motivated at least, about seeing her friends, learning new things, doing some physical activity, playing her favourite instrument.. But sometimes she is just not, and instead she feels sad, tired, not wanting to get out of bed etc....I totally understand that with hormones kicking in at some point, energy ...levels are affected and more rest is needed to help her brain and body grow. But as a parent, you would know if that feeling of wanting to stay under the sheets and at home is a sign of something else going on that might require a good discussion between you and her. I know mornings can be a real crazy rush for many families, getting everyone ready for work and school, but here are a few tips to motivate you child through her morning routine either during the week or at the week end if easier: - go to bed earlier the night before - listen to motivating music or podcast (check STRONG app) - write a journal / gratitude journal - set intentions for the day - positive self-talk - movement or exercise - nutritious breakfast - make the bedroom an inspiring place to wake up in and to go back to with creative motivation posters. This obviously applies to both girls and boys. And maybe to parents too??? And if you are concerned about your child's sadness and lack of enthusiasm, bordering on depression maybe, please do not hesitate to seek help. Love cx www.standingstrongclubs.com

Let’s also remind ourselves though that if we are going to ask the question, then we must make sure we are prepared for a NO. Being prepared does NOT mean that we must have the answers, but it means that we have created enough time and space to be with that person, without having to rush them, to offer them an ear to listen and a hand to hold for as long as they need. 14.01.2022 We discussed finding your voice today in our TWEEN workshop It can feel natural for some, and more challenging for others, regardless of how old, or young , we are. Even more challenging is to allow ourselves to use our voice. One very helpful tip is to look at the situation rather than the person involved. The discussion should be about what the issue is rather than who the person is. This will give the conversation a different perspective. ... For ex, If someone spreads rumours about a friend of yours, stay neutral about who has started it etc.... Instead reinforce that spreading rumours is not right and can be hurtful. Remove the personal element and concentrate on the problem itself and it might give you the courage to use your Voice Love cx
12.01.2022 This is such an IMPORTANT message to share. It could even save a life. Our culture and society in Australia and worldwide want our men to man up! Tears are not permitted. Vulnerability is seen as weakness. And confiding into someone considered as a girl thing. In the last few months, this mentality through covid times has led to even more men taking their lives, unable to cope with loneliness, with the fear of not being able to provide for their families and a sense of p...ride and identity lost. How many families suffering with losing a dad, a grand dad, a brother, an uncle, a mentor, a mate? Please read below or listen to Gus Worland in the link. Asking are you ok? Is one thing but you might need to dig deeper in some cases. You can be that one person who makes a difference Cx ~~~~~~~~ Radio host Gus Worland has also been working tirelessly to get the message out there - reminding all Australians that you don’t have to go through a mental health crisis on your own. We don’t talk about suicide rate like we talked about the deaths in COVID, Worland said. There’s been over 1,200 suicides since March compared to just over 200 deaths with the virus. They are the numbers we should be talking about. So many people are battling out there at the moment, and we need to give them as much information as possible on how to not worry alone and how to have a conversation with someone so they can get through this very difficult time. We were in crisis before COVID, and we’re even worse now. It’s time to throw perfect out the window and realise a bit of honesty with someone might save your life. Men and school kids struggling Men in particular (have) a lack of purpose and a lack of knowing what they’re going to do, Worland said. They’re feeling like they are letting the family down, feeling like they are not the traditional man of the household, feeling very isolated and not being able to go into groups and chat to their mates. Isolation and loneliness is leading you to suicide and leading you down a tough path. Young school kids are feeling utterly rudderless at the moment going through tough times. I wake up every morning to people telling me about someone who has taken their life. It is absolutely heartbreaking. Finding help One very simple thing is to not worry alone, Worland said. If you don’t worry alone, you have at least told one person. It’s not about telling one person and then coming up with the answers, because that is impossible. It’s just telling one person how you are honestly feeling, and you realise then that you are in a big community that is bumbling through stuff.
