19.01.2022 The Brain & Breath The Brain stem > respiration center - (multiple lesions that detect CO2) - CO2 = stress messenger // why? - >CO2 = change in pH, air starve...d, suffocation ((false)) alarm reflex panic. - Breathing primarily regulates CO2 as O2 diffusion is typically not a problem (Haldane Effect), and low O2 does opposite of CO2 increase = light headed//woozy//high//pass out. - Aortic // Carotid arteries have dedicated chemoreceptors that connect with brain stem detection = relationship From a Primary emotion standpoint this makes perfect sense. - All animals experience these due to sense interpretation. 5 senses dictate happy, sad, fear, and anger (depending on school of psych you subscribe to). - Example: See something threatening or a friend hurt, a fire, a love one returns home. Our emotions, long term memory, behavior and olfaction occur in the limbic system the second oldest part of the brain. - Part of being human is to experience emotions about emotions, and this is where things can get tricky for us. - Emotions impact our responses, including our response to the stress messenger, as we take on more emotions about things we suppress our ability to handle more. The newest part of our brains or the part that really makes us human is the neocortex specifically the PFC. The cortex is where most senses come in, where working memory, reason, cognition, where we create the stories of our world. - This is where when we have an emotional response to a sense interpretation we then reason with it, or start creating emotions about the emotion. This can have incredible, and detrimental effects for any of us if we don't understand the consequences. - Not only psychologically but this comes with physiological changes due to the suppression of CO2T. You are an amazing, beautifully constructed and unbelievably efficient work of art that is called human being. You respond to what you think, and you respond according to how well you manage CO2 with or without the understanding of this. *see comments // @shift_adapt @hhpfoundation @preparetoperform @jasondonaldson_ @intrinsic_way #shift #stress #adaptation #breathe #knowyourshift #natURe

18.01.2022 Crocodile Breathing is a staple at IB for good reason. It helps us to develop inter-abdominal pressure before and during our training sessions.

17.01.2022 #IBTV EP5 - Tune Up Day In episode 5 we talk about our very own, very awesome tune up day!

15.01.2022 Lately I’ve been getting back into some traditional hypertrophy movements in addition other methods (KBs and Body weight). . It’s been feeling great, and I’m noticing improvements in overall joint health especially in my shoulders. . This time I’ve really been thinking about muscle fibre direction, proprioception and strength asymmetries.... . Intention and load management is key! . Sometimes it’s not about what you do but how you do it See more

15.01.2022 #IBTV EP14 - Attainable Goals Doing things consistently is great! Just make sure you can maintain the regular practice. As soon as you’re finding it hard to keep your own goals, adjust and adapt to keen it attainable!

14.01.2022 My past Monk teachers told me about being cautious about others who have no connection to the universe. Like a WiFi connection, our connection to the universe ...as a whole is wireless. Those who have no connection and refuse to listen in order to connect: end up demanding others to ‘fix’ them. Only we can fix ourselves by this connection to all knowledge and energy of the entire universe. Those who demand you to fix them - demand constant attention (energy). If they would wirelessly connect, they would have all the energy and information they could ever need - like an endless google. Instead they demand others to give it to them. - Jonathan Fernandez, on teaching people to help themselves in our clinical practices

05.01.2022 #IBTV EP8 - How we get the most out of our warm ups Warm ups are very important, not only do they help prepare the body for training but we can use them to check on our movement compensations / capacity. This in turn will allow us to modify training prescriptions as needed.

05.01.2022 But I don’t avoid anything. All day, I don’t avoid a thing. __ The chemoreceptors in the brain, and arterial system (central & peripheral) are the mechanism ...involved in our response to avoidance behavior. This is a relationship we must develop to the stress molecule (CO2) for very good reason. If our pH shifts in the slightest to far, death is upon us. How sensitive we get is all about that relationship we develop. And it’s 100% trainable no matter how avoidant I am. // @shift_adapt @hhpfoundation #shift #stress #adaptation #breathcontrol #knowyourshift #connection #natURe #youarenature #co2tolerance #nequals1 #betheexperiment #mouthwideshut #shifthappens #recovery #co2tolerance
