An entry fee applies to the thunder egg and ryolite fossicking park, and each visitor is provided with fossicking equipment. The fossicking site is an enclosed area where the thunder egg bearing material from the adjacent mine is deposited in heaps.

01.01.2022 This weeks fossicking post, info from The Queensland Fossicking Guide Anakie Gemfields - Sapphires and Zircons. Anakie is 309km west of Rockhampton, and 43km west of Emerald. North of Anakie are the small towns of Sapphire and Rubyvalle. The declared areas comprise of five separate fossicking areas that have been set aside to allow tourist and recreational fossicking away from commercial miners. There are a further six declared areas know as Designated Fossicking Land where fossicking and commercial minding activities occur. Each field is different for the work to be done for fossicking, and the difficulty. It is recommended to research more on the area before heading out.
