23.01.2022 We’re all prepared to do our bit to combat the spread of COVID-19, but the Victorian Government’s blanket ban on all recreational fishing goes too far by stoppi...ng local people fishing in local waters For people who live at places like the Murray River, Gippsland Lakes or in our seaside towns, getting out to wet a line is part of our DNA Getting outdoors is crucial to our good mental health and wellbeing. Common sense would suggest that as long as we continue to comply with social distancing, observe the ban on recreational boating and avoid non-essential travel, local people should be able to fish in local waters LIKE or SHARE if you agree #vicnats #community

17.01.2022 Just in from the Futurefish Foundation. Director David Kramer is asking for an ease on the ban on recreational fishing in Victoria Please share this widely. No...t all; but many Victorians need a release from the stress and the ability to go for a fish for their mental health. This is a compromise. Please share! The Hon Daniel Andrews MP Premier of Victoria EASING THE BAN ON RECREATIONAL FISHING IN VICTORIA Around One Million Victorians love to wet a line and catch a great feed of fish. It’s part of their lifestyle and its healthy for their livelihood. Of those one million Victorians, many of them find recreational fishing the most relaxing thing they do. It relieves the stresses we face in life. It’s one of those rare activities where you just forget about the rest of the world while you anticipate your next bite. It is an activity that is essential for many Victorians mental health. Recreational fishing, under strict social distancing and gathering rules, is allowed in every other State and Territory except Victoria. The Futurefish Foundation applauds the tough stance that the Victorian Government is taking on preventing the spread of Covid-19, but the inconsistency when it comes to recreational fishing compared to other States needs reconsidering. Recreational fishing can be undertaken, with strict rules applied, without even the slightest chance of spreading the virus. We want to encourage the Victorian Government to continue the tough stance, including the strictest rules in Australia around allowing Victorians to go recreational fishing for mental health benefits. That is why the Futurefish Foundation is calling on you and the Victorian Chief Health Officer Prof Brett Sutton to ease the ban on recreational fishing. We are not asking for a total lifting of the ban; just an easing to allow those that rely on fishing for mental health to be able to go fishing safely and be in a better mindset to cope with the overall isolation Victorians are experiencing right now. These are the proposed rules for recreational fishing in Victoria: 1. If you don’t need to go fishing, then stay at home. If it is your only outlet for mental health benefits, then you must abide by these strict rules. 2. If you live in Regional Victoria, it is okay for you to go fishing in your local waterway but you must abide by the strict social distancing and gathering rules. 3. If you are fishing solo, you should always let someone know where you are going and when you will be home. That is a must at any time, but particularly important now. 4. For Port Phillip Bay and Western Port. Because these are heavily populated areas, we cannot put people at risk through fishing. That is why the rules are a bit tougher. All fishing from a boat on Port Phillip Bay and Western Port must be within the hours of sunrise and sunset. You must be back at the ramp and on the road home prior to sunset. You may only fish with immediate family members, members of your household or as a couple if you and your partner don’t live together. Fishing just with a mate is not allowed. It’s too risky. Fishing from piers in Port Phillip Bay and Western Port is banned. The potential for breaking the gathering rules is just too great by consequence of fishing being allowed. Fishing from the shoreline is allowed within the Port Phillip Bay and Western Port regions, but you must abide by the strict social distancing and gathering rules. Fishing from the banks of a river is allowed within the Port Phillip Bay and Western Port regions, but you must abide by the strict social distancing and gathering rules. Please, could you consider implementing these tough restrictions that allow the easing of the ban for those that have no other outlet than fishing to provide mental health benefits. Yours sincerely, David Kramer Director - Futurefish Foundation

17.01.2022 Despite some less than favourable weather today the Carp Eradication Weekend is in full swing. Fortunately the weather cleared this afternoon and after the first day we have 277 participants registered, a record for this event which keeps getting bigger every year. The biggest carp caught today was 74cm and the smallest was 25cm. The average length of carp caught is well down on last year which hopefully means that carp numbers are dropping. We have officially eradicated 152 ...carp and are hopeful that we can get at least that number again tomorrow. You can still register for Sunday, just pop in to the Boort Angling Club rooms on Ring Road Boort from 7am tomorrow for registration and bacon and eggs for breakfast. You must have your carp at the club rooms for measuring by 11:30am on Sunday. Presentations and give always will take place at midday.

12.01.2022 BAC camp for the weekend .

10.01.2022 It's a wrap! The 2019 Boort Angling Club Carp Eradication Weekend is over. Thank you to everyone who participated including our keen fisher-people, families, friends, committee and helpers. A total of 173 carp were eradicated from Little Lake Boort this weekend, well down on the 313 from last year. One possible theory for the low number caught this weekend is the windy conditions. The Boort Angling Club would like to think that the reason is the success of this event ov...er the past 5 years, officially 1467 carp have been removed from the lake during the event over that time. Either way we will be back next year to do it all again. The total number of entrants this year was 382, which is 61 more than last year. The longest carp caught was 75cm, the shortest was 25cm, the average length was 52 cm, down from 56cm in 2018. The club served up around 680 meals to entrants and a great time was had by all.
