21.01.2022 Did the long mission today in search for an early season red. Launched Corinella and flew around to crawfish rock to fish first light. Landing a few Rock cod an...d a big skate, with no luck on the snapper, went to get some gummy bait down at tortoise head. Dropped anchor shallow about 3.7 M 2hrs before high and got the burley going. Within 15 minutes the salmon were on all around the boat. Kept 31 between 2 of us also a few pike, most fish were caught on 30-50g metal slugs from the surface to the bottom. If they stop busting up on the surface, let the lure sink and do a slow retrieval. And if you find they are moving up and down and area it’s good to set a long anchor rope, pull the boat back and forth along the area they are working. Starting the motor will just scare them down to the bottom every time. 02.01.2022 Out this arvo on the whiting and squid. Launched at Sorrento and headed over to queenscliff. With the squid not really firing, it was up to St. Leonard’s to get grab a great feed of whiting on the last of the flood. On the slack we shit back to queenscliff and nearly got our bag of great eating size calamari.
