16.01.2022 The Noisy Miner birds have been busy in our grape vine over the last couple of weeks. It is apparently only the female bird that completes the nest in 5 or 6 days. Incubation is also by the female only, and the incubation period is around 16 days. The noisy miner has some of the largest group sizes of any communally breeding bird, with up to 20 males & 1 female attending a single brood. We have seen 4 different birds at this nest at one time. Fingers crossed there will be some babies in the nest when we return after the holidays!! Watch the video until the end

14.01.2022 A lot happens in a week!!!! We have been amazed to see how fast the baby miner birds have grown. Today was a big day. We saw them stretching and flapping their wings in the nest. As they are getting so big, they decided to venture out of the nest for the first time to sit in our grape vine. We are not sure if they will still be there when we return on Monday, so it is lucky we will have some more babies to watch over the next 4 weeks when our Rabbit Rearing program arrives. Stay tuned for some cute ‘kitten’ (baby rabbit) photos/videos to come

14.01.2022 Miner bird update! Today we got a closer look at the nest and saw three little chicks had hatched from our two speckled eggs. They’re twins, said the children in the platypus class as they watched the video on the learning screen. Stay tuned- we can’t wait to continue to observe, capture and share the progress of our little chicks. ... #observingnature #LearningFromNature #birdwatching

10.01.2022 This is our 3rd week with the rabbits visiting kinder. There is great excitement from all, that the kittens are now big enough to take out of the cage. We have been making an enclosure with our large outdoor blocks where they can have a run around. After a short play they all end up huddled together again, exhausted and ready for a sleep!! This is then the perfect time for the children to hold them on their knee and have a gentle pat. Their names change each day, depending on what child you talk to we are open for any name suggestions.
