21.01.2022 Notification from Australian Taxation Office Paper activity statements and myGov AttentionThis started on Monday 24 August.... End of attention Soon, if you have a paper activity statement delivery preference for your individual and sole trader clients, and they have linked their myGov account to the ATO, then we will no longer send you a paper activity statement or instalment notice. Your clients will receive their activity statement or instalment notification through their myGov Inbox: tax agents will be able to view the notifications sent to their clients' myGov Inboxes by searching the Client correspondence list in the Tax Agent Portal. we are introducing a new email service for BAS agents to tell them when a client has been sent an activity statement or instalment notification to their myGov Inbox. AttentionIf you lodge activity statements and instalment notices electronically, there will be no change in the way you manage your client's affairs. End of attention You will still be able to view, lodge, vary, revise and pay on their behalf through your preferred electronic channel. If you have a prior arrangement with us to continue receiving paper activity statements, this practice will not change, in the short-term. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please give us a call on 02 4261 4077

18.01.2022 What might delay a return? While we strive to maintain our service commitment, some returns may take longer to process when: your clients’ details don't match our records returns for previous years have been lodged with the current year's return... we need to cross-check data with other government agencies, including Centrelink and Child Support your clients have a debt or insolvency obligation with us we have queries about information provided in a return. When these situations arise, we usually need to review the details, contact you and where necessary, adjust the return. To find out how you can avoid common errors, see Preventing delays in processing returns.

06.01.2022 She was my mum. Head strong, loud, determined, classic, loving, helpful and amazing. She always said that I got my argumentativeness and determination from her.... I hope that I will be as helpful as her one day. Looking back on all of my mums achievements over her life she has done so much for her family and community. She helped where she could and who she could. She was a front runner for womens rights and mums returning to work. She was a fierce advocate for women's wellness and safety in the Illawarra previously working on the managing committee of the Warilla Women's Refuge. She was a fighter, just like the husband, father, 3 sisters, 6 children and 7 grandchildren she left behind. She was the foot up our ass that kept us all going. She and I fought like cats and dogs at the best of times because we were both too stubborn to admit that we were wrong but we always finished a conversation and argument with I love you. My mum appreciated a good joke, a dirty joke and downright crass jokes. Her laugh was contagious. I miss her and will love her always. My mum died of a heart attack on Tuesday and didn't make it. I'm sorry if this is how you are finding out. There has been such a loving response from the Community and my family thanks everyone for that. People have been asking where flowers can be sent. We're asking that in lieu of flowers donations are made to SAHSSI and Her Heart. When making donations please comment "on behalf of Vicky King" as we've requested that these donations remain in the Illawarra to help those mum spent her life trying to help. We are having a public funeral for all people who wish to attend. It will be on Thursday 5 March at 11am at St Lukes Church Brownsville. To remember mum we ask that all who attend wear bright, floral or leopard print clothing. If anyone has photos of mum please send to me in a facebook message - We're collecting these for her funeral and wake to share with all who knew her.

02.01.2022 Please Beware of phone scams Phone scams are the number one type of scam in Australia. Scammers can impersonate ATO employees to obtain personal information for financial gain from you or your clients. Generally, phone scams demand payment for an unexpected debt or offer an unexpected refund or grant. It is important your clients are aware that scammers try to collect personal information to steal their identity, including:... tax file numbers names addresses dates of birth myGov user name and password bank account and credit card details drivers licence, Medicare and passport details. This information is then used or sold to other criminals to commit identity fraud. This can happen immediately or even months or years later. Phone scammers are likely to be pushy or aggressive. They may tell your clients that there is a warrant out for their arrest or offer to send a taxi to take them to a post office so that they can make a payment. The ATO would never threaten jail or arrest and does not email, call or SMS asking for credit card or bank details to issue a refund. Scammers pretending to be from the ATO are generally more common during tax time so encourage your clients to be vigilant and to protect their personal information.
