25.01.2022 Boston’s weather is unpredictable, but our weekly meeting is not :) #marketing #guerrillamarketing #bostonuniversity #fall19

22.01.2022 This week, meet Ian Sung, GMS’s Head of Strategy! Outside of GMS, Ian enjoys reading and hiking, and is part of the BU snowboarding team. He says he’s a relaxed person and doesn’t need much, preferring to spend time in nature and being disconnected from society. He also enjoys spending quality time with friends. It’s bittersweet, Ian says. As a senior graduating into a global pandemic, he talks about his hopes for the future, and sadness at not being able to properly say goodbye to his friends. He speaks wistfully of how he’ll miss the busy campus atmosphere at BU, second to all the people he has met. Coincidentally, this ties in with his advice for incoming freshmen -- appreciate the people you’re spending time with, look to learn from each other, and love what you do.

21.01.2022 Bored during quarantine? Here are 5 activities Inbound team member Joanna Hsieh suggests you can do! 1. Take a walk and get some of that great Vitamin D. Make sure you’re social distancing! 2. Exercise! YouTube guides are great for home workouts. 3. Learn a new recipe! Pick up a new cooking technique that you’ve always been interested in but have never had the time to dedicate to.... 4. Reconnect with old friends or acquaintances. This is a perfect time to do so! 5. Pick up a new hobby. You have plenty of time to practice at home! Make sure that you are observing social distancing and wearing masks when you go out, and only as needed! We need to work together to ensure that quarantine ends as soon as but as safely as possible.

20.01.2022 Welcome back to this week’s senior spotlight! This week, we feature our club President, Xristian Tjarka. Xristian joined GMS and applied for a leadership position in the first semester of his freshman year, then shadowed a member of the E-board later in the spring. By his sophomore year, he became a fully-fledged E-board member, taking on the roles of club treasurer and head of design. His impact was instantaneous, as he re-designed the logo that we associate GMS with today,... created the club website, and initiated a mailing list that promoted GMS to the student body. It’s gratifying to be able to see how the club has grown quantitatively, and to show it objectively, he says. GMS’ website has received almost 30,000 impressions since its creation in 2017, and the club’s membership has tripled during Xristian’s tenure as a member of the E-board. The club has allowed him to develop his skills in leadership, public speaking, and collaboration through leading teams, conducting workshops, and reorganizing GMS’ structure. GMS also gives you a realistic perspective on what marketing entails. It’s not always fun, and there’s going to be a lot of monotonous work, he says. Coincidentally, this ties in with his advice to members of the club -- Join GMS if you enjoy marketing and want to help others realize their passions for the subject. Don’t focus on the titles and do the work because you have an intrinsic passion for it. To his friends in the club, he had this to say: Thank you for being a part of the club and thank you for helping it grow what it is today We hope Xristian, his fellow BU graduates and now GMS alumni find awesome careers in their respective fields. Once again, congratulations to the class of 2020! #SeniorSpotlight #BostonGMS #GuerrillaMarketing #BostonUniversity

18.01.2022 From university seniors who won’t be walking across the stage in May to nurses who fear that their patients will be the ones that infect them, our communities have been drastically impacted by COVID-19. We are expected to abruptly adjust to a new normal that isn’t normal to any of us at all. For marketers, this means dashing back to the drawing board to revise or reject marketing plans made for a different time. With slashed budgets and the absence of any playbook on dealin...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Need tips on how to stay productive while social distancing? Check out 5 things that GMS E-Board member Wendy Wang has been doing to stay organized and productive! 1. Write a to-do list every night 2. Wake up at the same time every day 3. Use Google Calendar to block out time to execute tasks 4. Do tasks that require a lot of brainpower during the most productive time of the day (for Wendy it is in the morning) ... 5. Play energizing music while doing less brain powering tasks See more

15.01.2022 This week, we feature Alyssa Neo on our Senior Spotlight! Alyssa was previously a Strategic Planner for Mei Mei, a small Asian fusion restaurant located in BU’s south campus. As a graduating senior, we sat down with her to talk about her experiences with the club. Alyssa joined GMS as a general member in the fall of her junior year. As a junior transfer from The George Washington University, she came to BU looking for more specialized opportunities in marketing as well as a ...more diverse community on campus. GMS’ methodology and how it forces you to work with different companies in possibly very different industries every semester gave Alyssa a fresh perspective on marketing, pushing her to be increasingly innovative with every new undertaking. In her free time, Alyssa likes to stay active through exercise and listen to hard pumping music, traits that sprouted from her time in highschool as a track runner and marching band member. When we asked her for advice, she had this to say: If there’s something you want to do I say go for it -- the worst thing that can happen is that you don’t get it. I’m sure there’s a lot of students coming in that want Account Manager or Strategic Planner roles, I say go for it. Look how it turned out for me! We hope Alyssa, her fellow BU graduates and now GMS alumni find awesome careers in their respective fields. Once again, congratulations to the class of 2020! #SeniorSpotlight #BostonGMS #GuerrillaMarketing #BostonUniversity

14.01.2022 Curious about how GMS members have been dealing with life away from BU? The President of GMS, Xristian Tjakra, said this: While in quarantine, I have been watching movies, cooking, playing lots of Animal Crossing, and practicing some hobbies! I've recently delved into the world of home espresso brewing and have combined my passion for coffee with photography (@xrispy.shots). I've also been learning new recipes from a '24 hour' roast pork shoulder to instant chili mac n cheese with pantry ingredients. I am hoping to stay productive and learn new skills throughout this social distancing.

13.01.2022 Welcome back to another week of senior spotlights! Firstly, we would like to congratulate all of our seniors for their well-deserved success in graduating from BU! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and look forward to seeing what you as alumni will achieve from here on out. This week, we meet Yujia Zuo, GMS’ Head of Funding. As Head of Funding, Yujia collects membership fees, allocates funding to areas of need, and also helps with the general meeting powe...rpoints. Before landing her role as Head of Funding, Yujia was previously an AM for two semesters, where she worked for Mike and Patty’s Sandwich Shop as well as Nanoleaf. What made her commit to GMS throughout the years was the diverse community that welcomed her warmly. Outside of GMS, Yujia is also a part of Hearts for the Homeless, which partners with local homeless shelters to give blood pressure screenings to the homeless. When not preoccupied with GMS and Hearts for the Homeless, she enjoys to paint leisurely in her free time. To her underclassmen, she had this to say: Be more outgoing when trying new clubs, be more confident in your skills, and meet new people to broaden your perspectives. Yujia would like to work for a Marketing agency where she could work with a variety of clients, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors! #BostonGMS #GuerrillaMarketing #BostonUniversity
