25.01.2022 Bowen therapy is an exceptional treatment for sport injuries. Tom Bowen had a passion for sport and was actively involved in the Geelong football club. He effec...tively treated all kinds of sports people, some of which traveled across Melbourne to be fixed by him. Tom would let players slip around the back of his clinic to give them a quick treatment in-between his other clients. His Saturday sport clinic was completely voluntary, as he was committed to the players. Tom went to all the presentations and he was given many thank you plaques and pictures of local teams, that filled his walls. We have interviewed sports enthusiasts, experts and practitioners Karen Hendrick, Michael Quinlivan, and ex athletes Ariya Lodge and Derrick Edmunds, who all have expressed how Bowen Therapy is cutting-edge technology. In that, it is highly effective for injury prevention, optimising performance, increased maintenance, and rapidly fast tracks injury recovery. There is huge potential for Bowen Therapy in the sport arena as it is currently very under-utilised, and we believe that our documentary will help it be more widely accepted as a stand-alone therapy.

We intervi...ewed an array of medical professionals who utilize Bowen Therapy in ‘These Two Hands’ documentary, including, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, midwives, pharmacists, to name a few. We were privileged to hear their amazing stories and how they have helped so many by using Bowen Therapy. In addition, they all highlighted the need for broader community awareness and acceptance as a stand-alone therapy to be integrated with orthodox medicine. The landscape of medicine around the world has been slowly progressing toward a more holistic and individualized approach to healing. This has been due to increase awareness with access to information through social media, limitations of orthodox medicine, cultural ties with traditional healing, a growing trend towards holistic and preventative medicine. This approach to healthcare incorporates a patient’s mind, spirituality, and sense of community into the healing process. Integrative medicine has been typically well received and the demand has been steadily increasing in primary hospitals in many countries in Europe, the USA, and Asia. Countries like China have led the way over the millennia, by incorporating specific healing foods, herbs, acupuncture, medical Chi Gong, and more hospitals. Currently, there is a great demand to integrate allopathic and traditional healing in developing countries. Many governments such as South Africa and India are moving forward with formal integration, undertaking the necessary research and policy changes. We learned that ...with advancements in medicine and quantum physics that the body is far more complex than the outdated western mechanical model. In particular, over the last ten years, there has been considerable interest in the fascia, the body's soft tissue matrix. Previously discarded and misunderstood by the medicals, it is now well established that fascia is the largest sensory organ in the body. This soft tissue forms a complex web surrounding every cell, all organs, muscles, bones, veins, lymphatic, and nerves. This dynamic organ creates our internal ocean of liquid crystal that protects, hydrates, nourishes, and provides a means of communication. We could conclude that through the remarkable fascia the body works in unity and maintains overall health. These findings have been pivotal for the Bowen Therapy community, as we are now able to comprehend how the Bowen Technique impacts the body directly through the fascia. Considering this, you could say that Mr. Tom Bowen was way ahead of his time, a fascial specialist. Perhaps the fact that he was not medically trained gave him the advantage to think outside the normal paradigm. Many have described him as obsessed and consistently researching, he would regularly collect carcasses from the local abattoirs. It is likely that he was studying the soft tissue matrix, that we now know to be the foundation of his work! Trials were usually carried out to find out if a treatment is effective for a specific condition. To understand the mechanism of how manual therapy works and looked at the physiological and biological responses of massage, researchers have used animals as a model. Manual therapy such as stretching, massage, joint mobilisation or manipulation were performed or simulated on animals. The benefit of using animals over humans is that specific physiological responses can be analysed. Researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham recently compiled the findings to evaluate the knowledge that can be gained from those experiments. The researchers selected 78 studies that met their criteria. The major findings are: Joint mobilisation induced changes in: nociceptive response and inflammatory profile, gene expression, receptor activation, neurotransmitter release, and enzymatic activity. Spinal manipulation elicited changes in: muscle spindle response, nocifensive reflex response and neuronal activity, electromyography, and immunologic response. Physiological changes associated with massage therapy include: autonomic, circulatory, lymphatic and immunologic functions, visceral response, gene expression, neuroanatomy, function and pathology, and cellular response to in vitro simulated massage. The effect depends on variability of parameters, such as applied techniques, body parts, duration, and pressure of massage. The authors concluded that clinical research supports manual therapy induces physiological response. 02.01.2022 Bowen therapy can change your life! This is a bold statement.... but if you talk to any Bowen Therapist you will notice something in common, and that is their p...assion for their work. Like myself, they have witnessed the profound healing of this Art, for themselves and others. I had chronic back issues ever since I can remember, which became severe after a mountaineering accident. I tried all manner of conventional and alternative treatments, with limited resolve. One day by chance I had been speaking with some friends and they said they were studying Bowen Therapy and suggested I try it. Like most people, I had never heard of it and decided that I had nothing to lose. Well laying on the table I thought to myself this is the weirdest thing I have ever experienced...... Miraculously, after one treatment I stood up and noticed an immediate difference, my pain had gone! I was so astonished because I was used to my standard treatment of hot packs in preparation for the crunch. Which I found to be a brutal treatment with my small frame at the time. It was a light bulb moment...WOW....I knew that one day I was going to study this technique. This was over 22 years ago, and now I have been practising Bowen Therapy for over 13 years and have experienced countless incredible stories, which never ceases to amaze me. Like many others, Bowen Therapy completely transformed my life. I am so passionate about the work that I embarked on These Two Hands - Bowen Therapy Documentary with my brother Sean Dobra, filmmaker and founder of Starmax Films to share the message far and wide. Bowen Therapy works so deeply that it shifts the body into a new state... change your body and change your life. You may ask how could this be possible.... heard the statement, what is happening in the outside world is reflective of whats happening inside? When we shift the body with Bowen Therapy, we actually change the neurological system and essentially the brain. When the brain changes, we change and consequently our lives change. In the documentary Oswald Rentsch, one of Tom Bowen's devoted students was committed to learning this technique after his wife Elaine found lasting relief after Mr. Bowens treatments. She had sustained pain all her life following falling out of a moving car during childhood. Elaines freedom from debilitating pain changed her life and the path that she would take with Oswald, who eventually left his farming work, to pursue a career as a full-time therapist and later taking Bowen Therapy to the World.
