16.01.2022 The global shortage of shipping containers is a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shortage has resulted in increased delays and a dramatic rise in shipping costs. This shortage has created a domino effect throughout the supply chain as countries recover from the pandemic at different paces. Asia’s early recovery meant that their export containers to Europe and North America where not being returned at the normal rate as both regions still grappled with the pandem...ic. Shipping companies also began to reduce the number of cargo ships being sent out to minimise the outgoing costs during this time, compounding the problem. SO, where are these containers? A significant number of containers are being held in inland depots waiting for return bookings, while others have been stacked at cargo ports. Without doubt the global industry is in uncertain waters. However container availability is gradually increasing while congestion in certain bottle necks is reducing, major shipping lines are implementing new booking systems which will hopefully see a return to normality.

12.01.2022 Container prices continue to go through the roof! Due to the high demand for cargo containers, shipping prices have reached record highs with goods. A 40-foot shipping container that 18 months ago cost between $3,000 to $4,000 is now costing between $8,000 to $10,000 in Australia. With disrupted logistics chains, Australian importers are having to fight to get stock onto the boats to keep up with the demand of lockdown spending habits.
