22.01.2022 BOWLS TASMANIA JUNIOR STATEWIDE CHALLENGE Bowls North Juniors competed in the first round of the Bowls Tasmania Statewide Challenge series on Sunday November 29. This event was originally scheduled to be played at Longford Bowls Club but due to the inclement weather the games was transferred to Kings Meadows Bowls Club Indoor Centre. Bowls South was the big winners on the day winning 7 out of the 8 games that was played, North West won 5 whilst the Bowls North Juniors unable ...to secure any wins. The score line in the matches our Juniors participated in does not reflect the standard of bowls that was played by them. And they never gave up at any stage throughout the matches. Our group of Juniors this year are a young group and under the watchful eyes of Bowls North Junior Coach Rae Simpson, Bowls North Board Junior Development Officer Dennis Bassett and BN Junior Selector Mark Strochnetter the Juniors are progressing well and they have been attending Monthly training sessions, where they are gaining the skills & knowledge to take them further in the game that they all love to play. Bowls North would like to thank Kings Meadows for hosting this event at such short notice, along with the Umpires & Markers and all the parents that was there watching and encouraging the Juniors from the sidelines. The next training session for BN Juniors is to be held on Wednesday December 16 commencing at 4.30 at North Launceston Bowls Club and is open for all BN registered Juniors to attend. Round 2 of the Junior Statewide Challenge is to be held on Sunday 10 January 2021 in the Bowls South Region, with the venue to be advised. 12.01.2022 EAST COAST TRIPLES FINALS 20-21 - Report by Garry Laycock With plenty of overnight and early morning rain it was a late start for the four sections winners who progressed into the semi-finals of the East Coast Triples for 2020-21 at St Marys Sports Centre. In the semi-finals M Dalla-Vecchia from Swansea played T Faulkner from Scamander.... It would be T Faulkner’s rink who would go into the final winning ten of the eighteen ends. Final scores were 18 shots to 14. The second semi final was contested by B Hill (composite side) from Swansea and M Oliver from Bicheno. With Barry Hill winning eleven of the seventeen ends and there was no need to play the last end. B Hill progressed into the final with the score line was 16 to 6. In the final it was Scamander side consisting of Tony Faulkner, John O’Hara and Sue Smith, jumped out to an early lead of seven to nil after four ends but then Swansea found some form and won thirteen of the next sixteen ends to take out the title 20 to 12. Congratulations to Trevor Viney, Dean Pyke, and Barry Hill on being East Coast Triples Champions for 2020-21 season and commiserations to the runner ups, Tony Faulkner, John O’Hara and Sue Smith. The next event in the East Coast Calendar is the Fours Championship with post sectional play to commence on Sunday December 6 and post sectional to commence on 13 December at St Marys Bowls Club.

This year Bowls North have a working party consisting of Aaron Page, Chris Lee and David Heron working on ideas on how Bowls North Championship events can be improved and entice more of Bowls North members to enter these events. As per Bowls North Constitution 42. MATCH COMMITTEE For the purpose of the management of bowls competitions and/or games within the region, there shall be a Match Committee comprising of four (4) members, and half of whom shall be male and half female, plus Chairman and the Secretary. It should be noted that Bowls South & Bowls North West have decided to play 21 ends in pennant across all divisions Bowls North Board have discussed this issue and are seeking preferences from Bowls North Members/Clubs, before a final decision is made regarding the number of ends played in pennant competition. The following are options that have been considered by the Bowls North Board. Option 1 All divisions play 21 ends and play straight through Option 2 Premier, 1, 2 25 ends Division 3,4,5,6 21 ends Option 3 Premier, Division 1 25 ends Division 2,3,4,5,6 21 ends Bowls North members are encouraged to express their opinion on one of the three options that have been provided to their respective club. Club’s are then required to send on Club letterhead, what their members preference is to Bowls North by Friday, September 4, 2020.

06.01.2022 This is just a friendly reminder of the process of adding new members or requesting transfers on your Clubs database on BowlsLink. We have had a number of Clubs adding new members to the system rather than requesting transfers and with many Clubs having recently held their AGM’s there might be some new office bearers in place that are not exactly sure of the procedure. If a member is joining your club from another club (anywhere in Australia) please follow these procedures...; Click on ADD MEMBER and then select the EXISTING MEMBER option. You have 3 options to add the information of the member joining your Club and the system will find the member. The easiest option is to add their ID NUMBER. If you do not know the players ID Number then please contact the club they are leaving or contact BTAS or your Region and we can provide you with this information. Once you have entered the ID NUMBER the members details will appear on the screen, then select INVITE & TRANSFER If a new member (most likely a novice) is joining your club and has not been a member of another Club then please follow these procedures; Click on ADD MEMBER and the select NEW MEMBER Then you just enter the details of the new member and an ID Number will be automatically generated for them. 06.01.2022 EAST COAST FOURS FINALS 2020-21 Report by Garry Laycock Today we reached the halfway point of the East Coast Championships with four teams playing the semi-finals at St Mary’s Sports Centre this morning (13/12/2020) with the winners progressing to the final in the afternoon. In the first semi-final J Kean P LeFevre M Turner I Johnson from St Mary’s Sports Centre took on Swansea’s T Viney (sub) S Golder D Pyke B Hill and it was Swansea team that prevailed winin...g eleven of the fourteen ends played to win a place in the final. Final score was 16 to 4. St Mary’s D Squires B Harwood G Laycock G Matters lined up against the team of S Smith G Tunks J O’Hara M Tunks from Scamander Bowls Club to see who would face off against the Swansea in the final. It would be St Mary’s side that progress to the final by winning eleven of the fifteen ends 19 to 8. With some exciting bowls being played by all the players, it was a tight tussle with scores locked at 3 all after 5 ends. With St Mary’s holding on to 4 shots on the 7th end and 2 on the 8th to gain a handy lead of 9 shots to 5. St Mary’s team was able to keep the advantage running out winner’s 17 to 10. 01.01.2022 Howard Watson Challenge 2020-21 Report By Garry Laycock The St Marys Bowls Club hosted the Howard Watson challenge between the East Coast and Bowls North on Sunday November 22, 2020. With the green a little tricky after some early morning drizzle, but as the day progressed and conditions warmed up and the green speed changed, all players involved produced some magnificent bowls played across all four rinks. ... Bowls North was well represented with the BN President, Vice President, Secretary and Board Members also attending along with Bowls Australia Tasmanian Regional Manager Allan Eadie. The Bowls North sides also contained some of their up and coming Juniors, Dylan Samphier, Blake Jones, James Jones and Lachlan Strochnetter. A superb morning tea was awaiting for the visitors on arrival and with a two course meal for lunch no one went hungry.
