24.01.2022 BING LEE TO THE RESCUE As advised to our team captains last week, the COVID restrictions over the last year have meant that our usual sponsorships of the Most Improved, Sportsperson of the Year and the MVP and Rookie of the year awards was under threat. Today I am pleased to announce that our major sponsor Bing Lee has stepped up and has provided $50 vouchers for each of those awards above. This is on top of the $30 vouchers provided for the Bowler of the Week each week. ... We sincerely thank Bing Lee and Michelle Simmons in particular for arranging this for us, and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Bing Lee in the future. This successful partnership is as much to do with the bowlers as the company as we always turn out smartly dressed and present an image that Bing Lee is happy to be associated with. Keep up the good work

21.01.2022 Hi guys, I know most of you have questions on what happens now, but the truth is we dont know the extent of the stoppage, so I ask you all to be patient. The committee is working at ways to restart the competition if and when we can and are constantly reviewing our contingencies. I am trying not get into discussions on this with individuals while we are still in the dark, as we simply do not know when we will be restarting. Any discussion now, may well be invalidated by the... facts. All we ask is that you leave it until we start to get a clear picture of what this year will look like and then we may start the conversation. As we get more information we will post it here and on the group. If we dont post it is because we have nothing to add. Best wishes and enjoy the break. Stay safe Derek Kellard Secretary

21.01.2022 COVID UPDATE Following the NSW Health letter we have been in touch with them and their recommendation is that we close down for the next six weeks as we are a travelling tournament and they are trying to stop movement of people around Sydney for sporting events. Based on six weeks shutdown we may be able to restart in October. ... Emails will be sent to team captains and centre managers later today, but l am passing on the information as soon as I get it so people can plan accordingly.

17.01.2022 SHIRTS 2021 After discussion with the shirt manufacturer we can confirm that the shirts will have full name on the back of the shirt (unless otherwise requested) and a nickname or first name if nickname not nominated on the front. W need to place the order next week at the latest to ensure delivery before the start of the season and we would request all supporters shirts to be ordered and paid for this weekend. If placed with this order, the supporters shirts will be $40. I...f ordered later, they may be more as the manufacturer works on a sliding scale based on the number of shirts ordered. Please can team captains ensure that they have all players details locked in this week. I will be emailing the team captains by Wednesday with details of the team shirts to be ordered and will need them to confirm or otherwise this weekend. Many thanks

17.01.2022 COVID 19 update The association has consulted with the TBA and have agreed that the current ban on accredited tournaments from now to June is an effective tool to help us control the spread of the COVID 19 virus Accordingly, all bowling is suspended until 6 June although we will be constantly reviewing the situation to see if this will change.... The Association will review the current schedule and make a decision on how to fit the competition into the available slots, and this is likely to involve some bowling on previously scheduled holidays, as well as potentially cancelling at least one round. We ask that captains who see this post comment so we do not have to call them. Please tag any bowlers who may not see this directly. Many thanks and let’s hope that these drastic measures contributes to the control of this insidious virus. As always, we recommend that the bowlers look after themselves, and be aware of any contagion risks. Wash thoroughly and maintain a high degree of hygiene. Best regards to all and watch this space.

17.01.2022 Please note that TBA has confirmed that Bowling Centres are indoor recreation centres and that masks are mandatory while bowling.

14.01.2022 The committee has received a communication from the TBA regarding the Covid 19 restrictions: In part it reads: "Ranked and Accredited Events TBA’s previous advice on 17th March indicated that all scheduled accredited and ranked events between March and May are to be cancelled or postponed. This has now been extended until 30th June with further extensions highly likely given the ongoing requirements for indoor sporting venues to be closed. TBA will continue to monitor rest...rictions and keep you informed. " Your committee is still working on delivering a shortened tournament this year if at all possible, but clearly we need to work with the TBA, the centres and the advice from the Government regarding Social Distancing. The safety of the bowlers is paramount but we will continue try to get back to the lanes as soon as is safely possible. Our best wishes go to all bowlers in this time. Our frustrations are the same as yours, and we all wish to get back to the sport that we enjoy so much. Stay safe, and keep smiling. The Committee

08.01.2022 BOWL SYDNEY AUGUST UPDATE The committee met in a zoom meeting on Sunday and the following decisions were made: 1. The current season has now reached sufficient games to confirm it as a valid season. This means that if the season gets closed down before our planned end date of 28 November, we will pay out the positions held at the close down date, with the proportional amount of prize money depending on how long we remain active. Positions will be based on win percentage in ...case of any deferred matches not yet played. Any teams with deferred matches outstanding will need to pay the non-bowling fee ($75 per team, $15 per bowler) for the deferred matches, or this will be deducted from their prize money. 2. There will be no formal presentation night this year due to concerns over social distancing and social gatherings. Instead the social fund will be paid to the captain to either fund a team gathering or pay out to the bowlers directly. This amount will be in addition to the prize money achieved and will amount to over $300 per team if the competition completes on 28 November as planned. 3. The cut-off date for averages for the 2021 season will be Friday 25th September. Anyone not having bowled 18 games in Bowl Sydney Tournament at this date will be using their league average of at least 18 games by this date. If no such average exists, then we reserve the right to assign an average based on games completed in Bowl Sydney after the cut-off date up to 18 games. Nomination forms will be available in early October and will need to be submitted by 24 October. 4. The caps for each division will remain unchanged at: a. Div 1 900 b. Div 2 850 c. Div 3 800 5. The shirts will be replaced next year as there are issues with the design currently in use, particularly relating to the images of the Opera House used in the main design. This means that the $20 nomination fee will be paid by all nominating bowlers as usual. The committee considered waiving this fee if the shirts were to be re-used, but this Is not now possible. 6. Footy Shirt day (5th September), and Pink Shirt day (31st October) will still be held if we are still bowling, but there will be no donation collections or cake stalls, instead we will ask the bowlers to make donations to a FB charity which will be set up in advance. 05.01.2022 Week 11 Covid update. Following the situation last week, I have confirmed that we have complied with TBA guidelines and NSW Government regulations, but I am seeking to get some clarification on a week to week basis as the regulations change, and we have seen that the processes at each centre will vary as their interpretation of the regulations changes. The number of people per lane is governed by the Centre and their ability to spread the bowlers across and behind the lanes i...n a socially distanced manner. Bear in mind that they are only catering for 5 bowlers. They are responsible for ensuring that social distancing is observed, and may ask additional people to leave if not directly involved in the bowling. Thus for next week, I have spoken to all three centres and they are happy to continue to allow us to bowl across 4 lanes to a match as we have been prior to last week. It makes social distancing easier and also allows us to get in, bowl and get out with minimum external contacts. This may change from week to week and centre to centre so please watch this space for weekly updates. This week at Wetherill Park and Bateau Bay, the centre is happy for us to register the tournament so we will need any extras to be registered with us so that we have a list of all attendees in case of need. Campbelltown has given us their own forms for the team captains to complete and hand in at the Centre on entry. All attendees must be covered on one of these forms. Each team captain should have received one of these this week. As before, please do not turn up at the centre early, unless you intend buying your lunch at the centre, in which case you can be there from around 12:30, but please no earlier.

04.01.2022 NSW Health and TBA have confirmed that the embargo on travel leagues has been lifted with effect from this Saturday. We can therefore confidently confirm that the schedule will restart on 3 October as per the new schedule. Due to the fact that we can start this Saturday, we are checking if any of the teams that may have a problem bowling on the long weekend wish to pre-bowl this Saturday. There may be a limited number of slots available if you wish to avoid the long weekend and bowl early. You will need to confirm today if this is what you want and your team is available at this short notice so we can confirm if the slots are available.

02.01.2022 Coronavirus COVID-19 Bowl Sydney Association wishes to make the following statements: 1. With the current medical situation all bowlers should be encouraged to look after themselves and ensure that they maintain standards of cleanliness. We recommend washing hands regularly, using hand sanitiser and limiting contact with others to a minimum. While not banning high fives or hand shakes, we understand that many bowlers will not be comfortable with this type of contact and as...k that all bowlers respect the wishes of others in this respect. If someone wishes to limit their contact, this is not a sign of bad sportsmanship and should be respected. 2. With people being encouraged to self isolate if they show signs of flu like symptoms, or have come into contact with a known COVID-19 infectee, this may make team selection challenging. If a team has one player affected in this way we would expect them to find a reserve if possible, but if a team has multiple players affected, then the committee will look favourably on deferring matches without a fee, and will be able to extend the normal deadline for playing these matches if required. The match will need to be played. These concessions will be available for duration of the current crisis. 3. If any player tests positive for COVID 19, we would ask that the committee be advised as soon as possible so that further action can be taken to isolate any contact that player may have had. We are hoping this emergency will pass leaving us relatively unscathed, but we need to plan for other circumstances if they occur.

01.01.2022 COVID ALERT Attention all bowlers, but especially Division 3. Anyone who went to DOOLEYS Clubs after bowling last week needs to self isolate for 14 days. This ...applies to guests on Friday through to Monday. Details are available on DOOLEYS Club internet page. Please advise if affected and your team not able to field a team so we can arrange any deferrals if necessary.

01.01.2022 Follow the link for the latest from TBA.

01.01.2022 COVID 19 Update Many will have seen the announcement this morning regarding the 100 person limit on indoor gatherings. Rest assured the Association is reviewing all options in conjunction with the TBA and the centres and there will be some changes to the schedule this weekend, but we are still working on this so have no further information at this stage. Please watch this space for a further announcement, in the next day or two.
