24.01.2022 I edited so many "ums", "ah's" and "so's" out of this video and there's still a whole bunch in there The entire sampling phase should have only taken 2 weeks, but here we are almost two months along. Under normal conditions (i.e. pre-COVID) we would have been on-the-ground in the factory, working directly with the manufacturers to adjust the tool and modify the samples every day until it was right. I’m frustrated with the current process but there’s simply nothing I can d...o to make it any different, so we’re doing our best under the circumstances. 21.01.2022 We just sent a @boxi_au production update to all our @indiegogo backers. Check your email or read it here . It's on - tooling has started and manufacturing will follow in May. It's been such a looong time coming, and I kinda can't believe it's now happening. I'm so, so excited - I know you're all eager to get your lunchboxes and I'm just as keen to get them to you. Read the update on our website or scroll down. . Here’s an approximate timeline:... . March/April tooling of all parts (this is the creation of the steel moulds that are used to shape the lunchbox and the ice brick). . Late April arrival of first sample off the new tool. This will be a ‘draft’ of the very first mass-produced Boxi lunchbox. From here we’ll refine the tool until the lunchbox fits our design and engineering requirements. Now, we were originally going to China for the sampling phase but due to travel restrictions, we won’t be visiting. So, it means that this phase will take longer than the original two week estimation, and depending on how many samples we require, will depend on how long this phase will last. We’re estimating 4- 6 weeks (including import/export). . Late May/June production and assembly will start and take approximately 4 weeks. We will use independent assessors for our quality assurance checks prior to our first shipment being released (this originally would have occurred while our engineers were in China during the sampling phase). . Mid-June/early July arrival in Australia! At the moment, sea freight is taking about 4-6 weeks and air freight is taking 10 -14 days (but costs a lot more). We’ll make a decision closer to the time about which method we’ll use. . As soon as our Boxi lunchboxes arrive, I will be posting them out to you. I want to thank each and every one of you for sticking with me through this journey I knew it was a long road to travel but I didn’t think it would be this long and have so many unexpected hurdles. (Oh yeah ) Pinch it with your fingers and gently pull it out of the groove, hand wash or pop in the top rack of the dishwasher. 11.01.2022 Here's what we've been working on behind the scenes for the past two weeks at Boxi HQ!

11.01.2022 Our T1 sample finally made it to Australia yesterday! After initial rejection from customs, then a 5 night stay in Singapore waiting for a flight to Australia, we finally have it in our hands. The reason customs rejected the lunchbox was because of the liquid in the ice-brick. It needed to include the Material Safety Data Sheet to prove that the liquid is not a hazard for flying it’s a great lesson to learn now, so we can make sure it doesn’t happen with future shipments. S...ome really awesome points about the sample: The seal in the lid is really amazing we’re very happy with its functionality and how easy it is to take out and put back in. The handle is great it looks and feels good and it’s such a useful feature. The size and fit of the parts is really good for a first sample there are a few adjustments to be made so it aligns with our quality specifications and design requirements. It’s easy to clean yes, we’ve already given it a trial run! Our custom packaging is really unique and will look fabulous when the graphic design is finalised. After these adjustments, we’re expecting 2-3 more samples to happen. Once we have it to our standard, we’ll then add the texture to the surfaces so mass manufacturing can start. It took two weeks for this sample to get here, so we’re expecting the turn-around time of each subsequent sample to be 2-3 weeks each (normally the sampling process would have only taken 2 weeks because we would have been at the factory overseeing it). I wish I could give you an exact delivery date of the final product, but it’s unrealistic for me to do that right now. We want you to know that the engineers, manufacturers and myself are working really hard to get it right, and get it here as fast as humanly possible. 09.01.2022 The first complete sample is off the tool and it all fits together! This is a great achievement by the design engineers - all the hinges line up, all the parts fit together, the handle and the latch fit in the designated spots. There are a few things that need fine-tuning, like the ejection points that push the lunchbox off the tool, and the length of time cooling the lunchbox while it’s still on the tool - but they’re all things we expected and things that can be fixed. ... It was super handy to see the lunchbox made in translucent material so the engineers can see exactly how the lunchbox is performing from all angles. Next step is another sample after the adjustments of the mould are made. 04.01.2022 T3 production update: We’re really happy with the most recent modifications we made on the tooling because our latest sample, T3, is really good it looks nice, it feels nice and it functions nice. YAY! There are only a few minor adjustments that need to be made now + adding the texture, so I really do feel like we’re on the home straight. In-between T2 and T3, we received many individual part samples to assess. We did this to try and speed up the process a little but it w...as still important to make our assessment and modifications based on the completed T3 sample which arrived last week. Our drink bottles have arrived and they’re gorgeous! We’ve managed to source four colours: white, black, blue and pink! So, if you pre-ordered one with your lunchbox, you can now choose which colour you’d like. We’ve also sourced the perfect sized teaspoon that fits in all compartments of the food tray. Made from stainless steel, they’ll make eating your yoghurt easy from the Boxi Cool lunchbox. And guess what!? Everyone who has already placed a pre-order will be getting a free teaspoon with their lunchbox! Our manufacturers, engineering team and myself are all really aware of the time it’s taking. I wish there was some way to speed up this process; it’s extremely frustrating and somewhat disappointing that it has taken so long. However, I’m really happy with the quality of this product and that was one of my main goals when I set-out to create a brand new lunchbox: quality!
