25.01.2022 The Sunshine Coast Council’s Cultural Heritage Discovery is filming a promo video featuring various attractions around the Sunshine Coast and they have asked us to take part in a segment promoting the walking track. The filming will take place down at the track on Friday 31st July at 1.00 pm and we need a few of our members, or any interested members of the public, to come down and take part in the shoot. Let us know if you can make it. It will take about half an hour.
20.01.2022 President Helene Cronin and husband Peter were down at the track doing a bit of cleaning this week and were thrilled to see the track full of walkers and the car park full, so full in fact that people were parking along the roadway.
19.01.2022 The number of people using the track is increasing all the time. We at BPHTI are very proud of our achievement in partnership with the Council.
16.01.2022 THE KRAUSS STORY Noel Williams I steamed into Buderim in 1914 And what a reception I got The farmers all che...ered because they all knew That I’d come here to improve their lot. I served the community for twenty years To Palmwoods and back every day Bringing in goods for Buderim town And taking their produce away. Not just produce I carried but passengers too And soon I became quite renowned For bringing in tourists from Brisbane up To spend time in Buderim town. But then it was found I was needed no more And I realised to my dismay That trucks could do my job better than I And I would be going away. And so I was sold off to Bingera Mill And for thirty more years I pulled cane But then diesel locos arrived on the scene And I was redundant again. For forty more years I was shuffled around And slowly began to decay My parts were being stolen until I was found By enthusiasts from Buderim one day. So Buderim welcomed me home once again And work was begun straight away To make me look good so the people could see me In Buderim on public display. But things didn’t work out the way I had planned And I stayed in that leaky old shed And dreamed of the life that I hoped would be mine In a lovely glass building instead. My paintwork was fading so to my delight My owners came up with a scheme To have me re-painted by expert restorers So that I would glisten and gleam. But first I needed a much better shed To protect the new look I would get So that was provided and in it I sat And I knew there was hope for me yet. I loved the makeover that they gave me then It made me feel just like a queen And everyone said just how lovely I looked The best that they ever had seen. So here I am waiting to go on display And then I’ll be able to boast That this little loco is without a doubt An icon of our Sunshine Coast.
13.01.2022 The book "Timber-Trains-Turmoil (a History of Buderim and its Tramway)" by BPHTI President Helene Cronin OAM was launched at a function in the Buderim War Memorial Hall last Saturday by Dr. Russell Stitz AM, one of Australia’s most prominent and highly awarded clinicians and Chairman of Buderim Foundation, which provided a grant to BPHTI to publish it. Dr Stitz congratulated Helene for the passion she has displayed in putting together what he described as a comprehensive hi...story of Buderim and its surrounds over the last 150 years and for her skill in negotiating the complex pathways, public debates and differences of opinion related to the development of the Tramway. Steve Chellingworth of Red Lid Creative, who assisted with the printing of the book, said he was personally touched by the humanity of the stories in what he described as a ridiculously heavy body of work. The audience were also entertained by Alan Winter and Noel Williams with a number of songs they have written about Buderim and the Tramway. See more
12.01.2022 We were invited to take part in the filming of the Sunshine Coast Council’s Cultural Heritage Discovery promo video last week. There were two segments - one down at the Krauss loco (still waiting patiently in it's new shed) and the other down at the walking track. Several of our members turned up to take part. The Krauss needed a spring clean for the event so President Helene Cronin engaged the services of her grandson, Cassius, to help tidy it up. Doug Benckendorff and Noel Williams popped the newly painted push rods on for the occasion as well. Peter Wise also turned up to be in the shoot.
12.01.2022 Our book "Timber Trains Turmoil a History of Buderim and its Tramway" written by our President, Helene Cronin OAM, has been a huge success. The first run of 100 copies sold out in no time and we have since received a lot of requests from people wanting a copy. We have now been successful in receiving a Cultural Heritage Grant from Sunshine Coast Council to enable us to print a further 50 copies and these will be available shortly. Proudly Supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program.

03.01.2022 We had a good roll-up at our AGM last Friday evening. We were not able to hold it in our usual location, Vise House, due to covid restrictions and we were offered the use of the Buderim War Memorial Hall, which we gladly accepted. Helene Cronin OAM, Noel Williams and Bruce Horton were re-elected as President, Vice-President and Treasurer respectively and Kay Sinclair was appointed Secretary. Kay is a long-standing member and has recently returned from working interstate for a...Continue reading
02.01.2022 There has been a change in plan for the video promo shoot. Chris is now going to film the Krauss loco first at 9.00 am and then do the walking track at 10.45 am. We won't need any extras down at the loco but those who are coming to be part of the walking track shoot should be there by 10.30.
