25.01.2022 New Logo! Made by my highly talented sister Elizabeth BRAIN Illustration I love it!

25.01.2022 Hempcrete is used as a monolithic wall, floor and/or ceiling material. It's a high performance insulator which can be finished to suit modern or period homes. It is an eminently carbon negative, natural and lightweight construction material which provides highly efficient temperature and moisture control among other unique characteristics; it is flexible, cures within hours and is one-seventh the weight of concrete. Here are some of the photos of the job we just finished in S...cotland. Read more about Hempcrete on my website. . Brainbuilt.com.au/hempcrete (Link in bio) See more

23.01.2022 People have been asking for a class with a different project, so here it is! Another weeknight course available with an exciting new project where we learn dovetailing, joining hardwoods and more. Starts Oct 9, only six spots so be quick.

23.01.2022 Hempcrete has specific breathability properties, actively absorbing and diffusing vapour throughout its large mass. This is vitally important because there is a common misconception that temperature is the gold standard for warmth or comfort, whilst ignoring the dramatic effect of moisture content in your home. You become colder faster when moisture is present. Ever notice how quickly you freeze after leaving the pool? Ever notice how cold you are after a shower before dryin...g off. The more moisture, the quicker heat conducts from you. In fact, the reason your body sweats (creates moisture) is to remove excess heat from the body. One of the gifts of Hempcrete to the industry is its strong moisture regulation and moisture buffering abilities. It protects from the moisture spikes which modern houses are known for. Creating healthy, comfortable and stable temperatured homes. Read more about hempcrete on my website www.brainbuilt.com.au

20.01.2022 The woodworking hand-tools classes are back! I'm going to be offering the beginners course first, I have been stuck over in Europe for all of 2020 and have been unable to return until very recently. I want to get the school rolling again with the hugely popular Beginners class. (I promise, the advanced class is being designed; now that I'm finally back in my workshop) It would be amazing if you could share this event for me also, it really helps a lot and means I don't have to pay Facebook.

20.01.2022 The long awaited make your own class! You get to design and build your own dream piece of furniture, an learn a ton of great skills along the way. The class has a focus on hand-tools and Japanese joinery so come equipped with plenty of ideas. Extra small class size for this one so jump in quick. Will

20.01.2022 Still two tickets left for tommorows class! Send me a private message for a promo code. Will

17.01.2022 Some nice words from Yianni about the classes I used to run back when two blokes could still shake hands.

17.01.2022 Nice to see some ace food on some american walnut tables we made as part of our fitout of Wood & Bone a few months ago. Help the crew out and order some food during this tough time for those in the restaurant biz. Will

15.01.2022 Jump in to this Wednesdays class and get wood working! 4 Spots left. Will

15.01.2022 One cubic metre of hempcrete will sequester approximately 110kg of carbon from the atmosphere. An average sized house would be built using around 50 cubic metres of hempcrete for the walls, meaning that an average hempcrete house would lock up 5.5 tonnes of carbon for the lifetime of the building. This compares to a more standard new house of a similar size, in which the walls would be likely to emit 48 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere (M. Berners-Lee 2010). This is a saving of 53.5 tonnes of carbon for every house built

15.01.2022 New Japanese Joinery course up and ready to book! You'll get to learn tons of new skills and com away with a really solid grasp of timber joinery, and a pot plant stand! The classes are super popular so jump in quick!

14.01.2022 This will be the final class for a few months, maybe until May. So jump in if you havent done a class yet. Everyone has loved it and gotten a lot out of it. Many people have even come back to to a second class. Jump in, Will

14.01.2022 Carlotta has flown half way around the world with me to start a new life together. Only for me to leave ten days later to go do a hempcrete job in Adelaide for two weeks. It's great having a relationship where we encourage each other to grow and just do what we need to do, even if it makes circumstances difficult sometimes. I'm happy to travel to work if it means supporting an industry which makes actual and substantial positive change to the world. Still, if anyone in Victoria is interested in utilising Hempcrete, I'd be even more pleased to come have a chat. Check out my website (link in bio) if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

09.01.2022 Big thanks to Will for liberating my inner grandpa (he was a carpenter!) and helping me realise my dream of a dovetailed chopping board that looks a little like a Moai statue! Really great fun.

08.01.2022 Students did great last night. Pretty good handplane jointing for their first night on the tools. More classes coming up soon. Will

07.01.2022 The red boy was built as a standalone vanity for a new bathroom in Reservoir for @apatsy , but I think it would work just as well as a sideboard or dresser unit. The legs are ebonised messmate. The body is spotted-gum and the inlays are redgum. I've put it on the NEW shop on my website www.brainbuilt.com.au for those who'd like to see more photos and also for those who'd like a recreation of him. His size can be adjusted and drawers, can be added also. Cheers, Will... #furniture #furnituredesign #customfurniture #luxuryfurniture #modernfurniture #woodfurniture #bespokefurniture #furnituremaking #furniturerefinishing #furniturelovers #furnitureinspiration #sustainablefurniture #modernfurnituredesign #woodworking #woodworkers #woodworkingskills #finewoodworking #woodworkerlife #woodworkerofinsta #woodworkingideas #design #designer #interiordesign #designinspo #productdesign #moderndesign #architecturaldesign #sustainabledesign

04.01.2022 Materials with thermal mass have the capacity to absorb, store and release heat energy across time. From the italians using marble to keep cool in the hot mediteranean, to the trend of rammed earth to shield from the scorching sun in southern states of the US, also the usage of cob clay walls in India or cool mudbrick houses in Australia. This is a classic heating and cooling technique in climates with high diurnal swing where the thermal mass dampens large fluctuations betw...een hot days and cool nights. Hempcrete, with its thermal mass, provides a serious alternative to modern, synthetic insulation, highly air conditioned and high electricity demanding housing. It also allows us to hop off of the merry-go-round of housing industry consumerism with patented, aggressively marketed 'environmental' building materials which take more energy to create than they'll ever save. Additionally, modern houses also require our vigilant attention to keep windows and doors closed closed windows to preserve our precious expensive conditioned air. Because the air is the only thing you've actually conditioned. With the temperature stabilised by a hemp house's thermal mass, it leaves you free to naturally ventilate your building. This means that in a hempcrete home you can open the window if it gets a bit stuffy; safe in the knowledge that all your expensive conditioned air isn't not going to flow straight out the door. 03.01.2022 First week last night for the new woodworking students. They all managed to work out the dreaded hand plane, square their lumber and glue it up on the first night!!
