25.01.2022 During this holiday season more than ever, our thoughts turn to those who have made our progress possible, and in this spirit we say simply and sincerely, thank you! Brave Pelvic Health

24.01.2022 Today marks the second day of Women's Health week and we would like to increase the awareness of pelvic floor problems in female designated bodies: "Ninety per cent of cases of incontinence in ageing women can be improved with exercise, and 70 per cent of cases can be treated with physiotherapy, according to a study by Chantal Dumoulin, a Canada research chair in urogynecological health and aging at the Université de Montréal." https://www.cbc.ca//it-s-time-to-break-the-taboo-around-pe

24.01.2022 Today is the first day of the Women's health week, a week focused in increasing the awareness of particular female designated bodies conditions. Brave Pelvic Health believes that women should have access to early and specilised care. *we would like to acknowledge that not all women have vaginas. This week is a way to increase awareness to the health of everyone who has a vulva and female gynecological designated at birth.

23.01.2022 Day 2 of the Women's Health week: we weren't designed to raise a baby by ourselves. The expression "it takes a village" is not just a metaphor. Just like any other trauma, birth trauma needs time to heal and for you to learn to live with it. Look for help, look for "your people" (friends and family who give you empathy and help you feeling better) give yourself time and a lot of self compassion and you too can learn to live with trauma.

23.01.2022 Although common, a caesarean birth involves major surgery. This means that your body goes through an amazing amount of change and it is common that the structures involved will need time to recover and heal. Although most of us are aware of the need to give time to the scar to heal, at Brave Pelvic Health we often don't see many health professionals talking about the need to check bladder, bowel and sexual health. Pain during intercourse and problems with emptying the bladd...er and bowel and even bladder leaking are common findings after a caesarean birth. It is therefore important that, even if you had a planned caesarean, your scar, abdomen and pelvic floor are checked so you can turn 80 and never think about "what if I had gone to my pelvic floor physiotherapy appointment". :) Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

We can help minimise short and long-term side effects of cancer treatment on your pelvic and sexual health. Baby massage also promotes relaxation and reducing crying. 21.01.2022 Have you ever wondered if your vagina looks normal? We often hear concerns about the shape, size, or asymmetries about the vaginal area. The vulva is the outer part of the female genital area that includes the labia majora and minora, clitoris, urethra, and vaginal opening. ... Womens Health Victoria have developed the amazing Labia Library to bust a bunch of myths on how we expect our vulvas to look like. Check out this wonderful resource which has facts, and a bunch of pictures of real vulvas so we can all appreciate the differences which make us all special and unique. www.labialibrary.org.au #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #innerwestmumsandbubs #pelvicfloor #knowledgeispower #labialibrary #loveyourlabia

19.01.2022 Some of the most common prolapse symptoms are vaginal dragging, or heaviness, difficulty fully emptying your bladder or bowels, and lower abdominal or lower back pain. While these can sound quite scary, in most cases pelvic organ prolapse symptoms can be managed very well with pelvic physiotherapy. Our physiotherapists specialise in the management of pelvic organ prolapse, and are here to guide you and support you so you can develop confidence and control of your pelvic floor. #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #physiotherapynewtown #thepelvictuner #pelvicfloorphysio #womenshealth #innerwestmums #pelvicorganprolapse #prolapseawareness

19.01.2022 From an evolutionary perspective, puppies are born with their eyes and ears closed because they are born not fully developed so the mother can have a shorter gestation period (around two months) and increase survival rates in the wild while pregnant. In the wild, mother dogs would bring their puppies back to their den and raise and care for them safely there. Dogs are altricial, meaning their young are unable to move around independently after being born, and need to be nour...ished, fed and cared for for a long period of time while they develop. Precocial animals such as chickens and ducks are born more developed and are semi-independent and mobile. #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #physiotherapy #physiotherapynewtown #thepelvictuner #pelvicfloorphysio #pregnancyphysio #womenshealth #menshealth #transhealth #innerwestmums #funfact #puppylove

19.01.2022 Early ejaculation can be multifactorial so each individual diagnosis must take into account each person's experience. Your pelvic floor, masturbation and health history can give good indications on how to improve ejaculation. Ranging from training your sensitivity to improving your pelvic floor control, a pelvic floor assessment can help you understand what the main drivers are and how pelvic floor physiotherapy can help you last longer. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

19.01.2022 Pregnancy can be beautiful but also challenging. While you may be focused in your baby's health, it is also important to take care of and prepare your pelvic floor and your body for childbirth and pregnancy. Often back or hip pain can occur and while this is not dangerous for your health it can make the whole experience uncomfortable. Know that physiotherapy can help you move better and help you manage the pain so you can focus on what really matters. Whether you have a c...aesarean or a vaginal birth, your pelvic floor will go through some changes, and a pelvic floor check up before and after giving birth are strongly encouraged. Our physio services can help with pelvic floor and birth preparation, as well as any aches any pains you may have along the way. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

19.01.2022 Your physiotherapy pelvic floor check should happen after your 6 week GP check up. In this session, totally dedicated to you and your experience, a pelvic floor physiotherapist will collect your history before and during pregnancy and childbirth. A thorough one-hour assessment of your abdomen, body and pelvic floor are performed and a plan is defined according to your own specific goals. This assessment is widely recommend by postnatal guidelines and crucial for a safe return to exercise. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

16.01.2022 Whether you had a vaginal or a caesarean, sex after a childbirth often is described as not the same. While some lucky ones experience an improvement in pleasure and orgasm, others feel pain and fear to return to intercourse. Know that most people take 12 weeks to return to intercourse after a birth! Dryness, tightness and pain from the scar or trauma during delivery can be behind the local pain however, the cause of often is multifactorial. Another common complain is a cha...nge in orgasm and while some describe that it became weaker or they can’t reach it, others suggest that the clitoral hood became too sensitive/painful. Whether you had a traumatic delivery (and have pain) or you feel that you are fearful or hesitant towards intercourse and you want to make sure everything is fine, know that pelvic floor physiotherapists can help you.

16.01.2022 Did you know some foods and drinks can be bladder irritants if you are experiencing bladder symptoms such as frequency, urgency, incontinence? 14.01.2022 Particularly after a vaginal delivery, the anterior vaginal wall can be more mobile. It is known that about 80% of women will have a certain degree of pelvic organ prolapse after delivery. Some of the most common cystocele / anterior wall prolapse symptoms are vaginal dragging, or heaviness, difficulty fully emptying your bladder, double voiding (going to the bladder multiple times to fully empty it) and postvoid dribble (leaking right after you have emptied the bladder) lowe...r abdominal or lower back pain. You may have one or a few of these these symptoms and the degree of severity of the symptoms can vary.

13.01.2022 1000x YES: you're still a good mom!

12.01.2022 "Sex does not equal intercourse. Intercourse is not a pre-requisite for quality, fully satisfying sex. Pleasure is valid and satisfying with or without intercourse and all parties deserve to experience pleasure with sex."

12.01.2022 Does your baby have colic? Although the causes for colic may be diverse, it is known that the gut of a newborn is immature and it takes some time to develop. Tummy massage can help the gut to fully empty and therefore, ideally help with emptying the trapped gas. This can also be a great way to connect with your bub so come and learn how to do abdominal massage. We offer individual sessions or can organise small group classes. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

11.01.2022 So you had a bub and now you feel like you are ready to return to exercise. Have you had your pelvic floor and abdomen checked by a pelvic physiotherapist? Although widely recommend by postnatal guidelines and crucial for a safe return to exercise, not many new mums know of the importance of having a pelvic floor check up after childbirth and pregnancy. Although we may feel great after birth, even after an "uneventful birth" your body may be still recovering or some symptom...s may be masked such as incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. The pelvic floor physiotherapy check up is totally dedicated to you and how to return safely into exercise. Whether you have had a c-section or vaginal birth, it is highly recommended. Your exercise, personal health history will be taken, along with your goals and timeframes. Remember, a pelvic floor physiotherapist should help you return to your type of chosen exercise and the plan should be defined based on your own specific goals. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

11.01.2022 Proctalgia fugax is the name given to the sudden and severe onset of anal/rectal pain, which can last from seconds to minutes. The pain is sporadic and can be without warning. Did you know your pelvic floor could be exacerbating your symptoms? While Proctalgia Fugax can be a result of several digestive problems such as IBS and IBD, the consequent reactive response of your pelvic floor can be contributing to the severe pain you may be experiencing. This is why pelvic physiotherapy can be such a great adjunct to your rehab plan. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

11.01.2022 Trauma is not an event that happened in the past and stayed in the past. It is like a fingerprint in our memory, a shadow in the corner of our mind that no light can reach. Occasionally we can get engulfed by it, sometimes we can live with it. If you had a traumatic childbirth, know that with the right care and support, you can learn to live with your experience. The Australian Birth Trauma Association is a stellar association that praises to help those who had birth trauma.... Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help you recover from the physical trauma but we believe that body and mind have to work together so you can return to feeling yourself and you can learn to walk alongside your experience. No one chooses trauma, but you can choose how you want to walk your path to recovery. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

10.01.2022 Did you know our pelvic physiotherapists can also help children with bladder and bowel issues? Constipation is one of the most commons conditions for which children see a GP for. Did you also know that 25% of children with functional constipation will continue to have problems while adults? It is important to mention that pelvic physiotherapy for children is often non invasive and a lot can be done with the aid of tools such as the biofeedback (external electrodes / stickers). #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #physiotherapy #physiotherapynewtown #thepelvictuner #pelvicfloorphysio #womenshealth #menshealth #transhealth #kidshealth #pelvicfloorphysioforkids

08.01.2022 Correction: "Treating people with dignity and respect makes a decent person"

08.01.2022 Happy Birthday to our wonderfully talented, compassionate, lyra loving, Director Aline! May you have a year ahead that is just as special and amazing as you are.

08.01.2022 This is so important for everyone but particularly for new parents and those with pain or sexual concerns. Wishing you all a great Sunday!

08.01.2022 Do your stools look like pellets? Do you need to push and strain? Do you take longer than five minutes to pass a bowel motion? Ideally our stools should look well formed like a sausage, but have minimal amount of cracks through them. This allows us to pass a bowel motion most easily without pushing or straining, and we should not have to sit longer than 5 minutes to be able to pass a bowel motion. The hormonal changes during pregnancy can change our bowel habits making it mor...e difficult to go regularly or easily. It is important to address any bowel issues during your pregnancy as it can affect your pelvic floor. Our pelvic physios at Brave Pelvic Health love everything to do with bowels and understand how common it is for women during pregnancy to experience constipation. #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #physiotherapynewtown #thepelvictuner #pelvicfloorphysio #womenshealth #menshealth #transhealth #innerwestmums #constipation #bowelhealth #nostraining

07.01.2022 Did you know 1 in 4 have pain during penetrative intercourse? 1 in 10 have penile pain too so we know this is common, but by no means normal! Pain during intercourse can be caused by many factors. A pelvic floor assessment can give us a better understanding of the reasons behind your pain but we also understand that this can be quite confronting, and is not necessary. While we can check the pelvic floor, often the mobility of the hips and back can be involved too. Our pelvic physiotherapists treat holistically, and are here to support and guide you through treatment. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

07.01.2022 Enjoy your holidays without guilt or shame! Self care comes in all forms and shapes and food should be nourishment, not a torturing tool.

07.01.2022 We would like to wish our Director Tus an amazing birthday full of happiness and success! Hope you were spoiled with love!

07.01.2022 If you have any concerns about giving birth, we are here to help and can provide a personalised pre-birth risk assessment. Research shows that there are some risk factors that can contribute to pelvic floor problems such as incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, tears and birth injuries. We can assess and determine your risk of having birth trauma and pelvic problems, and then help you prepare for the best birth outcomes. We can also provide birth preparation exercises and strategies for you and your birth partner. #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #physiotherapynewtown #thepelvictuner #pelvicfloorphysio #womenshealth #innerwestmums #sydneymums #sydneymumsandbubs #pregnancyphysio #pregnancyclasses

06.01.2022 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men leak when they cough or sneeze, and while this is common, it is not normal. Stress incontinence can be caused by pregnancy, childbirth, exercise and menopause and there can be many factors that can be behind your leaking. Often it may not be just the pelvic floor muscles alone that are the reason, which is why a pelvic floor assessment is highly recommended. Our physiotherapists specialise in treating urinary leaking and are here for you. #bravepelvichealth #pelvicphysiotherapy #physiotherapy #physiotherapynewtown #thepelvictuner #pelvicfloorphysio #womenshealth #menshealth #transhealth #innerwestmums #bladdercontrol

06.01.2022 Did you know that about 50% of those who have undergone gender affirming surgery have bladder complications? Urine retention, leaking or bladder urgency are common complaints and pelvic floor physiotherapy can have a great role in helping. At Brave Pelvic Health, we believe that everyone with a pelvic floor, regardless of the biological anatomy, gender and sexual orientation, or identity, should be aware that pelvic conditions can exist for everyone, and can be treated. Reme...mber your pelvic floor physiotherapist doesn’t need to see your pelvic floor if you don’t feel comfortable. We are empathetic and we believe that the most important thing is for our patients to feel safe. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

05.01.2022 Did you know that about 80% of our trampolinists leak? Although highly fit and often presenting with strong pelvic floor muscles, our young athletes often present with pelvic floor problems such as leaking and bladder urgency. Know that although the causes may be varied, pelvic floor physiotherapy can be important to assess for any possible triggers that may be worsening bladder control. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

04.01.2022 From improving bonding, helping baby to relax and help managing cortisol levels in your baby, baby massage has several benefits. At Brave Pelvic Health we believe that regardless of the type of delivery you had, baby massage can be an extremely positive experience for both parents and baby particularly after a traumatic or hard experience. Touch can be extremely healing for the whole family and it is a great way to connect and recover.

03.01.2022 At Brave Pelvic Health, we believe that everyone with a pelvic floor, regardless of the biological anatomy, gender and sexual orientation, or identity, should be aware that pelvic conditions can exist for everyone, and can be treated. The male designed pelvic floor is located at the bottom of the pelvis and has three main functions 1. Sexual function it promotes and maintains erection and helps with orgasm 2. Continence it helps to prevent leaking of urine and stools. Ad...ditionally, the pelvic floor has to be able to voluntary relax so the bladder can empty and the urethra can relax. 3. Support the pelvic floor supports the pelvic organs (bladder, prostate and rectum) in the pelvic cavity Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help if there are any issues with any of these three functions. Aline discusses this topic in more depth in her blog post: https://bravepelvichealth.com.au//did-you-know-pelvic-floo

02.01.2022 So you had a bub and now you are feeling difficulties in controlling wind and stools? Did you have a "large" episiotomy or a grade 3 or 4 perineal tear? Perhaps you are feeling pain and difficulties in emptying the bowel due to pain or fear of injuring yourself? Although widely recommend by postnatal guidelines, not many know of the importance of doing a pelvic floor check up after childbirth and pregnancy. Particularly in more traumatic childbirths, the pelvic floor and the... anal sphincter can be impacted which can be behind the lack of control some of us experience after childbirth. There are many strategies your pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you put in place to help you improve control and even prepare for a following pregnancy. A pelvic floor physiotherapy check up is totally dedicated to you and your body and in making sure you can improve your bladder, bowel and sexual health after childbirth. Call us on 9541 8414 or email [email protected] to find out more.

01.01.2022 Did you know about 15.6% of people have anal problems? Unfortunately only about 85% of people spontaneously share their problems with their doctors. We know at Brave Pelvic Health that about 35% of patients do not consent to an internal anal assessment so know that not always this is required. Whether you have sudden anal pain, pain during anal intercourse or pain while emptying the bowel, or leaking from the anus, know that pelvic floor physiotherapy can help you!
