25.01.2022 Next Tuesday is International Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. In recognition of this, our friends at the Breast Cancer Network Australia are hosting a webcast for those diagnosed with, or supporting someone with metastatic breast cancer. Many people with metastatic disease tell us they feel excluded from the wider breast cancer community, especially during October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month). The webcast will explore the lived experience of people diagnosed with metastatic disease. You will hear about practical support and resources available to help you navigate the complexities of living with metastatic breast cancer. 25.01.2022 Today is World Kindness Day. In a year where everyone could use some kindness, today is a great day to do an act of kindness for others. If you want to be involved why not let us be your act of kindness. By donating to Breast Cancer Care WA’s financial relief program you are assisting West Australians facing breast cancer cope with the financial stress of breast cancer and it’s treatment. $50 will put a tank of fuel in the car to get to and from treatment appointments ... $75 can provide a few house cleans for clients who are unable to lift anything heavier than a loaf of bread after surgery. $100 could help pay a utility account for families who are struggling financially and need our help to keep their services connected. $200 could help stock a pantry and fridge and keep a family of four nourished for a week. $500 could help alleviate financial stress and relieve a mortgage repayment for someone who is unable to work during treatment. Donate today at https://bit.ly/2UcWo0c and your act of kindness will have an immediate positive impact on the women of Western Australia facing breast cancer. #WorldKindnessDay #onesmallact #makekindnessthenorm #20kin2020 #everydollarcounts #breastfriends #breastcancer #breastcancercarewa

25.01.2022 Our Amy was thrilled to go out and visit the wonderful people at @Rejuva Como yesterday. They handed over the incredible amount of $6000 to Breast Cancer Care WA from their recent fundraiser. It was a fantastic day and not only were the people attending incredibly generous but the company then matched every dollar raised. This is a wonderful example of how organisations can amplify the generosity of their supporters through matched giving, and make an important difference for people in West Australia facing breast cancer.

24.01.2022 Metastatic Support Groups One of the other services we provide, specifically for women with metastatic breast cancer is support groups. We have 6 metastatic support groups, - Mandurah, Cottesloe, Joondalup, Midland, Bunbury and a young women’s metastatic support group in Murdoch, which also operates online. Attending the group has allowed me to spend time with a group who ‘gets it.’ It’s a great place to air concerns with no judgement or worry about how people will react. ...It has also enabled me to make friends so that we can continue to support each other outside of Breast Cancer Care WA. If you or someone you know is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and would like to access our services, just contact the office on 9324 3703. All our services are provided free of charge for all West Australians facing breast cancer. #Metastaticbreastcancerawarenessday #MBCAD #breastfriends #breastcancer #breastcancercarewa #breastcancerawarenessmonth

19.01.2022 Week Eight - "Attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace is a must." We know everyone approaches their breast cancer journey differently, which is why our care is personalised. We're delighted to share this journey of our client Eileen, who has been approaching her chemo treatments with a twist - by dressing up for every one! Last year, Eileen had booked a trip to the UK and France booked from March to June 2020, which was cancelled due to the pandemic and her need for... breast cancer treatment as she was diagnosed in November 2019. For each chemo treatment, Eileen dressed up to match where she would have been had the pandemic not set in! "I have found dressing up for chemo has been great for my spirits; instead of going for chemo being something ominous, the focus has changed to what will I wear; its also been a great ice breaker with the staff and fellow patients; so I would strongly encourage anyone going through chemo to set themselves a theme. I look forward to checking out what you are wearing!" #20yearsstrong #breastfriends #breastcancercarewa See more

16.01.2022 Breast friends for life! During Breast Cancer Awareness month, when thousands of organisations are talking about early detection and finding a cure, many people with metastatic breast cancer can feel ignored and forgotten, as this is not part of their story. Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day is an important opportunity to shine a spotlight on the importance of improving and extending the lives of those with metastatic breast cancer. You will never be cured of metastati...c breast cancer, said Breast Cancer Care WA Client, Lisa. It’s about maintenance. The treatment never stops. That’s why the services provided by Breast Cancer Care WA are so important. It’s a continuous relationship - for life! Of people diagnosed with breast cancer, approximately 7% will have an initial diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer and approximately 25-30% diagnosed with early breast cancer will progress to metastatic. If you or someone you know is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and would like to access our services, just contact the office on 9324 3703. 02.01.2022 Happy Birthday to Dr Ros Worthington OAM, the founder of Breast Cancer Care WA! 20 years ago, Ros began this organisation with zero funding; a completely volunteer-based charity. Thanks to her charisma, passion, and ability to make magic from a shoestring budget, Breast Cancer Care WA now supports over 1,000 families in WA every year. Ros believed it was our job to relieve the burden, not add to it, which is why we are still 100% free of charge for anyone living in WA who needs us. Ros, we love you, and wish you the happiest of birthday celebrations today. #20yearsstrong #breastcancercarewa #breastcancer #breastfriends

02.01.2022 #bikesforbreastcancer (and hot rods) are in the Murray St Mall helping raise the bra for IGA Purple Bra Day. Come on down and say hello . We'd love to see you and also happy to take your donations

She is looking forward to meeting our inspiring and generous team of volunteers, possibly at one of the opportunities below. There are a few events coming up soon that we need volunteers for so if you're registered as a volunteer, Belinda will be in touch shortly. 02.01.2022 #checkyourbreasts - You might have seen hashtags #40isthenew50 or #canat40doat45. If you’re not sure what this means, you’re not alone. It all relates to getting free breast screens. Many of us know that you can get a free breast screen from BreastScreen WA from the age of 50. They will even send you a letter to remind you every 2 years from the age of 50. What many people don’t realise is that if you are 40 years or older you can also get a free breast screen. You just... need to contact BreastScreen WA. For young women under 40 years the breast tissue is much denser, so it is more difficult for screening mammograms to show the changes that may indicate cancer. For this reason, women under 40 are not eligible to attend a screening mammogram but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be breast aware. For more information on what to look for go to https://bit.ly/35fvSdj and don't forget to share this with your #breastfriends! #breastfriends #checkyourbreasts #breastcancerawarenessmonth #breastcancer #breastcancercarewa

01.01.2022 Thanks so much to #breastfriends for donning the bra and getting behind IGA Purple Bra Day!

01.01.2022 Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day - Michelle’s Story The majority of people diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer have progressed from early breast cancer but, for a small percentage, it can be the initial diagnosis. This was the situation for Michelle, one of Breast Cancer Care WA's metastatic clients, when she was diagnosed in 2014. Her message for others on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day - If you know someone facing breast cancer, be gentle and be carefu...l with your words. If they are metastatic that are not going to be cured. They may have good days but you might not see the struggle behind that. I get comments like ‘You look so well,’ or ‘I know how you feel’ and it’s so frustrating, said Michelle. To read more about Michelle's experience as a metastatic client go to https://bit.ly/36ZPfbe If you or someone you know is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and would like to access our services, just contact the office on 9324 3703. All our services are provided free of charge for all West Australians facing breast cancer. #Breastfriends #MBCAD #metastaticbreastcancerawarenessday #breastcancerawarenessmonth #breastcancer #breastcancercarewa
