25.01.2022 A timely reminder about the magic of mothers milk, particularly when illness is a concern! When there is sickness close to you, handle the toys or clothes or equipment used by the sick person so that you can (after only 20 minutes in the case of airborne exposure) produce antibodies in your milk to protect your nursing infant. https://www.facebook.com/138141916336863/posts/1542520772565630/

25.01.2022 Oral dysfunction can occur as the result of the restriction of the lingual frenulum (tongue tie.) Linda is a speech pathologist with a particular interest in craniofacial disorders and oromyofunctional therapy to correct feeding, swallowing, and speech disorders. 21.01.2022 A typical vaginal birth with OA presentation - was this your birth experience? What helped with your birth? . . My sons birth was unusual by modern standards.... I gave birth at a private birthing center without any medication, and spent only eight hours there from arrival to the time I took my new baby home. I enjoyed my experience greatly and wouldnt change a single thing about the labor or birth. Everybody has a different vision for how they want their birth to go. While most modern women opt for a hospital birth with an epidural, many women seek alternative options for a variety of reasons. Many women worry about the effects that pain medication has on a baby and want to remain drug-free. Others are terrified of needles or potential side effects of epidurals. 06.01.2022 This short statement from ILCA regarding COVID-19 vaccines offers little comfort for lactating women but hopefully some clear data will we available soon. What can we tell clients about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines during pregnancy and lactation? "First, it is important to remind families that much of the information we need to make decisions is still forthcoming. ... You may also provide them with guidance on what we know so far: Overall safety considerations for pregnancy and for lactation may be different and should be considered separately. Just as distribution of the vaccine happens locally, safety approval also is guided by local regulatory processes, typically at the national level. These safety approval processes include a review of the outcomes of clinical trials. However, phase three clinical trials, which test vaccines for efficacy and safety, have not yet been conducted on people who are pregnant or lactating. While additional data are on the way, in the short term, guidelines from different countries are likely to be conflicting as each region weighs the balance of limited evidence with a vaccine for a novel virus against their knowledge of the protective benefits of lactation. We know that further information is critical for healthcare workers and essential workers who are also lactating. (See this op ed for context in the US setting.) ILCA will share more information as it becomes available."
