23.01.2022 No need for a huge reflective piece on here. We have all experienced the ups and downs of 2020. Rambles for next year... Slow down Take in moments of each day... Buy less Waste less Reuse more Be time-smart Live the best life. We’ve only got one.

18.01.2022 A belated Happy International Women’s Day 2021!! (it’s been a crazy few days in my house!) Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. ... May we raise them. #iwd2021 #women #strongwomen #change See more

18.01.2022 M.I.A. So I’ve been quiet on socials recently, just for an update...The big Q is almost over!! #quarantine #covid_19 #queensland I have been juggling 2 kids, two small rooms (with help!). No regular fresh air, and no outside adventures. BUT we were well-fed, entertained, endless cuddles and boob, plenty of window sunshine and blue skies - and we are amazing at playing eye spy!! Now what?? ... Head on up to Cairns, settle in, start looking at networking with likeminded pregnancy, birth and postnatal workers. Know anyone who would like to connect? Someone looking to add a service their clinic? Or need some breastfeeding support? DM me!! And then it will time to plan the next step in our travels... #wanderers #vanlife #travellingmidwife #travellinglactationconsultant #cairns #australia

16.01.2022 I breastsleeping...this is us, twice a day! How else do you get babes to sleep????!!! Recently at a routine GP visit, I was asked why I am still feeding babe so much at one year old. I was initially stunned! But you can imagine my response!!! Breastfeeding and breast milk has so much value after the first year, certainly after solids; and also into childhood. The World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding up to and beyond 2 years! ... As an IBCLC, I will support, encourage and troubleshoot with you to achieve your goal, whether that be 6mths, or 6 years. #parentingthroughbreastfeeding #ibclc #lactation #melbourne #breastfeedinginthebush

15.01.2022 Foggy, sweaty, itchy, and bothered. Not the usual get-up!! Please please please stay home, so I can get back to caring for families without my full body PPE. It is really difficult times at the moment here in Victoria, be kind to each other, and seek help if you need - even if it means your health care team are looking like aliens! #stayhome #midwife #ibclc #lactation #washhandsplease #breastfeedinginthebush

14.01.2022 Yes! Being in health and birth work can be tricky, why doesn’t everyone practice EXACTLY like me???!! But the more reflective practice I do, working on self, the less focus there is on others practice. Through my roles, I can only show my ‘best practice’, grow and learn from other health and birth workers...the good and the questionable... #birthworker #cairns #midwife #lactation #ibclc #healthcare #care #support #birth

14.01.2022 Expressing!! Pumping!! Love it? Hate it? It is a relationship, just like breastfeeding. Some women find they can’t pump any milk at all, others can. This is NOT an indication of your supply! Sometimes it may be the type of pump; the flange size; the time of day; and many other things! ... This may make you feel worried about returning to work, or leaving your baby in the care of others - which is totally ok!! But I can help!! Send me a DM or see website Milky tip - pump with some self-love to aid let-downLight some candles Or dim the lights. Put on some good tunes , eat your favourite food If you like it, soak your feet in a warm foot bath...or pump in the bath ...anything to get your milk flowing!! Any other tricks?????? 12.01.2022 When your mum is a Midwife and Lactation Consultant! Knitted boob for the win! Both my kids know that ‘boob milk’ is what I help families with, and that boobs, birth and bodies are our usual dinner conversation! #normalisebreastfeeding #normalisebreastfeedingtoddlers #handexpressing #lactation #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #normalisebodies #bodyimage

10.01.2022 18 months breastfeeding this little love. Different experience this time round - a babe who does not need boob to fall asleep - but still loves to!! And prefers laid-back feeding, but #boobsaremagic #parentingthroughbreastfeeding #secondbaby anyone else noticed differences between babies?

10.01.2022 *person/human/he/she/they (not just women/woman!) I have done a fair bit of winking this week! Broken arms, cardiologist reviews, packing boxes, shift working...parenting!!! Looking forward to starting our adventures soon! #travelling #ibclc #midwife #breastmilkfeeding #breastfeeding #support

09.01.2022 This week I was asked ‘how long will it take?’, for her nipples to stop hurting, for more rest, for the challenge of the first baby and week to settle. Time, support, love, determination, perseverance - was my answer. This too shall pass - was my next one. Women/humans are strong-minded, strong-bodied. And with some support and guidance, this too shall pass. #lactation #support #breastfeeding #breastmilkfeeding #frankston #melbourne

09.01.2022 Hello Insta people. I share mostly boobs and birth on here. But today marks a special occasion. And a way to use this platform for something bigger and better. Feb 14th is Sweet Heart Day. ... This year, as we will every year, I have created a donation page to celebrate our little babe, and in honour of those who have experienced and been touched by CHD. If you could share wildly, donate a little (small coins only please- times are C19 tough!) - we would really appreciate it! https://www.heartkids.org.au/my//for-heart-kids-like-augie For those interested about CoA: @zerotofinals has a great rundown of signs etc. from them. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba6IzyElglT/?igshid=2qr5oslklzlv

07.01.2022 Anyone else ready to wave goodbye to 2020, and welcome a new year? Ready for change? This year has been full of new challenges and journeys, for most of us! Trying to find small gratitudes has been tough and I have certainly had to put effort in to this...but this morning’s one was easy - our morning swim with my big little love swimming underwater like a fish! #2021 #parenting #ibclc #cairns #breastfeeding #midwife #fifolife

07.01.2022 February is month. You may not have heard of CHD. Or been affected by it. ... But I bet you know someone who has!! Many heart conditions are complex, require continuous monitoring over years, more surgery and more hospital stays. This can be emotionally, financially and socially devastating to families. Let’s do what we can to help. Support HeartKids. https://www.heartkids.org.au/ HeartKids Share, like, love.

06.01.2022 This year is the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, as declared by the World Health Assembly/World Health Organisation. According to WHO - ‘Nurses and midwives play a vital role in providing health services. These are the people who devote their lives to caring for mothers and children;...The world needs 9 million more nurses and midwives if it is to achieve universal health coverage by 2030.’ This year has thrown many hurdles so far; and many midwives ( ...myself included!) have questioned why and for how long, we can continue to practice our passion, livelihood and career in such challenging times. But here we are. Nearly at the end of 2020; in this unique calling, still standing, partnering, advocating and reflecting. #midwife #internationalyear #celebratingnurses #celebratingmidwives #breastfeeding #birth #pregnancy #fourthtrimester

06.01.2022 I am proud to be an IBCLC. It has enabled me to meet and support families to achieve their breastfeeding or feeding goals. And even as the years clock over, I remember each story, baby, and parents I meet. ... And I am always blown away by the determination and willingness to try. My drive...(the reason I am away from my family at time, working late, missing my kids)...my aim is to show families options, choices, and see what works for them. And make some sort of small positive difference in their journey as parents.

03.01.2022 ‘Together they sang of happiness and hope...’ one of my favourite books. Those arm rolls! Breastmilk for the win! #breastmilkfeeding #breastfeeding #lactation #parentingthroughbreastfeeding #whenyourmumisamidwife #whenyourmumisaIBCLC

01.01.2022 Thanks Dr Kiran Atmuri - Obstetrician & Gynaecologist for the great info! ‘Eating for two’ is often said and suggested by well-meaning family and friends; however maintaining a healthy weight in pregnancy is important for all, as is a positive food and body relationship or balance.

01.01.2022 Been a little quiet on socials this week. I have had my first EVER experience of mastitis. I have breastfed one baby for 2.5yrs, one still going strong at 14mths...and never had it!!! And even as a Midwife/LC, I had to send a pic of my boob to a trusty friend to confirm!! So when in doubt, please ask for help!! Common Signs: - quick onset flu/cold symptoms - sore boob or deep ache... - spreading redness or even just a spot - blocked duct/no milk coming out - baby does not want that side! How To Help: - Feed, feed, feed! - Dangle feed, all fours. Aim for baby’s chin to sit on the blocked or sore spot. Even if you end up playing Twister!! - Shower/bath soak - Massage blocked ducts gently - Rest up if you can, call in the support! - Immune boost! Vit C, garlic, ginger...Tumeric! - Sun...great for Vit D...but small amounts of time, no sunburn!!! Ouch. - Seek out an IBCLC, for early support. We know boobs!! - Seek out GP for care at 24-48hrs if not improving or earlier if required. As antibiotics may be needed, or further treatment. - And then, prevent it from reoccurring, or worsening. My mastitis was due to trauma/damage from my little ones chin digging in all night long so I have repositioned for most feeds, and now 2 days later boob is MUCH better. Here’s me, trying to sun my sore boob, unimpressed with this new experience. #reality #instavsreality #lactationconsultant #ibclc #midwife #mastitis #mastitistreatment
