24.01.2022 Another busy day unpacking all manner of goodies. These extra large light up domes are stunning. $99.95. The light up trees $14.95 Early night for us. Heading off to the Elf Bunkhouse now. Sleep well everyone.

24.01.2022 Almost 3 metres of Christmas Bliss. Carly has done a magnificent job of decorating all her trees, but this one is perhaps my favourite. It’s the tallest one, with more on it, so.. yes... too much is never enough!

23.01.2022 Everyone waiting on Grinch trees/toppers, I have frustrating news. We are now on our latest advise on delayed delivery. The ship had been stuck for weeks in the Bangkok port, then more weeks stuck in Singapore. Our latest due date is December 2nd, BUT there is a huge number of containers still stuck on the Sydney wharves due to the recent go slow practices, due to wage increase demands. I’m frustrated, embarrassed and stressed at the thought of letting so many of my customer...s down. Of course I’m more than happy to refund any payments made, but that can’t make up for my horror of letting you all down. I have never had any problem getting trees in from this factory before, and it certainly was not the fault of the factory. It was the lack of ships sailing due to Covid. Words cannot express my dismay... ok, a little family ‘funny’ there. Our surname is de Smet. Almost pronounced dismay. Your right! A joke isn’t funny when you have to explain it. See more

23.01.2022 The Elf daughter celebrates her 40th year of Christmas’s today. Happy Birthday Favourite Daughter! She spent her first Christmas in Unique Boutique, in her bassinet, while I worked behind the counter, selling gorgeous Christmas and gifts. Those 40 years have gone so fast.

22.01.2022 I put this post up at the beginning of the month, alerting everyone that November is our busiest month of the year. Especially on weekends. Especially in the mornings. In the Social Media Courtroom I have been accused of not practicing a responsible Covid plan. Wrongly accused. I have asked all my loyal followers to delay visits if they are unwell, or if there is any chance they have been in contact with anyone who might have covid. We take contact details, we have loads ...of sanitiser, and free masks on request. At the beginning of the pandemic, while the size of our shop allows for 125 customers, we, ourselves determined that 80 would be extra safe. Recently, with Australia doing so well, we rethought the number to 100. Only a few times, and for short periods over the last two weekends have we needed to resort to, a one out, one in situation. We have requested, that where possible, to make visits during quieter times of the week, on weekdays and later in the day on weekends. It seems, my biggest crime is having created a happy place that brings a little bit of magic, and joy to so many people. With the ratty year we have all had, I’m pretty pleased I’ve been able to do just that. See more

21.01.2022 Our latest advise on delivery of our Trees and Grinch toppers... January 9th!! We still have some really gorgeous, great quality trees in stock, but not a full range.

19.01.2022 Ok, the long weekend is here! I’m not trying to offend anyone with this post. You know how much I enjoy your visits. Over the past couple of days, mornings have been a little frantic. Long weekends are usually busy. If the last couple of days are anything to go by, we might be a little more than busy. I’m concerned mostly about numbers. This is probably not the weekend to come with family groups, (with small children). It just doesn’t feel fair to have adults outside, waitin...g to shop while small children are inside while their parents shop. I know that sounds bad, but I’m just trying to make everyone happy. I love children, but perhaps not this weekend. Afternoons after 2.30, are much calmer. If you want a less hectic visit, and you can, an afternoon visit is the go. If you come late, and need more time to shop, we will never ask you to leave. (we were at the shop until 7pm tonight). This holiday Monday will be super busy. If you feel vulnerable, (Coronavirus), we have complimentary masks, bucket loads of sanitiser and we ask you to sign in on arrival. If you’re unwell, or think there is a chance you may have been in contact with someone who has Covid, please put off your trip until you are well. Our main priority is too keep all of us safe and well. See more

18.01.2022 We are open this coming long weekend! We do expect to be busy. We are very conscious about keeping everyone safe. My Staff, my Customers, and ourselves. I’m getting a little nervous about numbers, in line with Covid regulations. The shop is big, and we can have 80 customers at any one time. It’s always busier in the mornings, up until about 2.30pm. If you can plan a visit later in the day, you will miss the rush. It’s probably not the weekend to come in big family groups. ...Keep in mind we are always closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays, but the other week days are never as hectic as weekends, with the exception of public holidays. We have complimentary masks for those who feel vulnerable. I certainly don’t want to sound like the Grinch, because all of you who know me, understand my total dedication to Christmas, but, it’s SO important that we all follow the rules in connection to Coronavirus. 17.01.2022 My Grandchildren are growing up before my eyes....

17.01.2022 I’ve been into Christmas, all my life, and in the retailing of Christmas almost 42 years. Yes, I’m starting to feel every one of those Elf years. But, I get a new wave of excitement with every new face, every new visitor, that comes to see us. But it’s extra special when we have third generations visit. This is our newest, youngest, customer who came for her first Christmas Barn visit yesterday. (dressed as a snowball, pretty as a picture.) I clearly remember her Mother shopping with us, as a little girl, back in our early Woden/Canberra days. Family, and close friendships, that’s what makes Christmas so very special. That and spectacular trees!

16.01.2022 Wow! What a crazy but fabulous day. Unfortunately we had to have customers queue up outside to start their visit for parts of the day, but everyone I spoke to, were extremely understanding. The shop was full of happy, smiling faces. I’ll be spending my nights and days this week refilling all the walls and shelves. Thank you one and all. Once again, can I say, Neville and I do not take your support for granted.

16.01.2022 Apologies to everyone, and there are a lot of you, who are waiting for me to get back to you. Every year I take on more than I can do, and this year, with so many of you locked down, the enquires are overwhelming. I have so much stock arriving, we are busy in the shop and I am stressing about returning all your messages. I promise I will post all the parcels I’ve already promised to send, but it’s getting increasingly difficult for me to make the trip to Canberra (no post off...ice in Bredbo), which with all my fiddling around takes at least 3-5 hours. It’s never been on my agenda to have an online store, and we are just not organised, or technically savvy enough, or to honest interested, in having one. I know this year, it’s impossible for many of you to visit, and I’m sorry, but I just can’t take on any more stress. I’m an old Elf, getting older by the day. Elf 666 is getting older and crankier too. We just can’t take on any more extra activities. The shop is my happy place, and I strive to make it magical for all those who visit. Hopefully you will all have that opportunity soon. See more

15.01.2022 Every year on the 19th of November, Santa’s friend, the Birthday Fairy, taps Neville on the shoulder, and makes him a year older. Looks like she really beat him up this year!!! Just kidding! Happy Birthday, to my always gorgeous, ever young husband.

10.01.2022 I have so many customers who have been loyal supporters of my efforts for many years. Some still shopping with me from the very beginning in 1979. One of my long term devotees is Lisa, who has set up a decorating event company. Lisa uses a lot of our beautiful pieces she has collected from us over her lifetime of Christmas’s, plus lots from our new wondrous collections. You can find her on Instagram.

09.01.2022 Good Morning Everyone. 4 months until Christmas!! I know! Scary! Almost finished unpacking another container yesterday. Still a few to go.. The general consensus from customers, is that this is the best the shop has looked, with the best range of gorgeous goodies, ever. Still lots more to unpack, so multiple trips needed, to not miss anything.

08.01.2022 Check out the flashing neck ware and ties on this happy family of four. They had a ball in shop today, and their enthusiasm was infectious. We hope to have them back soon.

06.01.2022 Another super busy weekend at the Barn! We will be doing our very best to fill all those shelves again over the next few days. Lots of new goodies to unpack. Meanwhile in the Elf Daughter’s house, the blue tree goes up.
