25.01.2022 In a vintage crop of three year-old sprinting colts, there is none better than high octane speedster Anders with Widden Stud delighted to announce its purchase of an interest in the ownership of the record breaking son of Not a Single Doubt. We are thrilled to joining the ownership group of this exciting colt for the remainder of his racing career and to be chosen as his future stallion home, said Widden Stud's Antony Thompson. He is an outstanding looking colt, with blis...tering speed and a lovely pedigree, these are the types of stallions that have been the key to our success at Widden." 25.01.2022 The first trials for juveniles in Sydney this season took place at Randwick on Tuesday morning with two heats over 735m and both were won by the progeny of first season sires and trained by Lee Curtis. The quickest of the two heats was won by Extreme Choice filly Avaricious, who showed speed from a wide gate to lead and when asked to keep going by Jay Ford got clear of her rival Maurice’s Medad to win by a length and a half in 43.36 seconds. Japanese superstar Maurice (Jpn) h...ad the runner-up to Avaricious in Maurice’s Medad and he also had the winner of the other juvenile heat with the flashy chestnut I Love Lucy mustering speed from an inside draw to lead all the way and win in 44.07. 25.01.2022 There is always a huge amount of interest in the first official two year-old trials of the season and with nine heats there are plenty of watch horses including expensive yearlings, bluebloods and a horse whose colouring will make him the most unusual horse on show at Randwick on Monday. Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Navajo raced by David Grant who dabbles in coloured thoroughbreds and this two year-old colt is bred for colour being by Moonlark (USA) from Maybe M...abelline. She’s an unraced pure white daughter of a noted source of coloured thoroughbreds Profile in Style (USA). He might not be the fastest two year-old at the trials, but Navajo will be the most eye catching. Also keep an eye on $1.4million colt Montenegro and Joyous Legend, a daughter of champion mare More Joyous. Read the full story at Breednet https://www.breednet.com.au//watch-horses-at-the-2yo-trial

21.01.2022 See the Coolmore Australia stallions parade at home tonight in a virtual parade from 7pm through the Coolmore website or their Facebook page. The annual stallion parade at Coolmore is always one of the highlights of the year for us. We thoroughly enjoy opening the gates to our clients and friends to present our incredible roster of stallions in advance of the breeding season, said Tom Magnier, Principal. Unfortunately, we are unable to do so in 2020, so we have decided to ...bring the stallions to our clients in the comfort of their own homes by way of a Virtual Stallion Parade. Included in this are interviews with some of the most recognisable names in international racing such as John Magnier, Bob Baffert, Frankie Dettori, Aidan O’Brien and Chris Waller, who give us a great insight into some of the stars on our roster." 20.01.2022 A unique chapter in Australian thoroughbred industry history was brought to a close on Wednesday, December 16 when five-time Group 1 winner and proven Group 1 sire Danewin was humanely euthanized at Emirates Park, Murrurundi his home for close on 25 years. In 2014, on a trip to the Hunter Valley touring the studs, my children and I were lucky enough to meet Danewin on a day when his trainer Bob Thomsen had come to visit and it was a memorable experience for us all. 18.01.2022 There was some concern for the champion Queenslander Rothfire when he was led back to scale after he struggled into fourth in Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose at Rosehill, which proved a triumph for the Hawkes stable with the top two lots at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. It was a team Hawkes quinella as the Written Tycoon colt Ole Kirk defeated the high-priced Brazen Beau colt North Pacific by a head with a length and a quarter back to the dual G...roup 1 winning Redoute’s Choice colt King’s Legacy in third. The first and second were the second and first top sellers at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. 17.01.2022 Special Kolt - a Limited Edition - Charismatic black Lonhro stallion Kementari was a Group I star on the track for Godolphin and there was huge expectation when ‘Special K’ retired to Darley last spring, but as is sadly sometimes the case things did not go according to plan. Kementari was set to cover a full book of quality mares at a fee of $33,000 and Godolphin had sold breeding rights in him to some of the best breeders in the land, but sadly for his fans Kementari proved ...all but infertile. Just two of the 53 mares Kementari covered in 2019 tested positive and they are With Care and Mithila. Mithila has produced a filly and With Care delivered a colt on September 6 that is owned by Avesta Bloodstock. 10.01.2022 Thanks for the memories, Loving Gaby has been retired to stud. Ciaron Maher and David Eustace issued a statement through Twitter announcing the sad news. It is with great disappointment, we announce Loving Gaby is set to miss the spring carnival. She has heat an inflammation to a near fore limb that has forced us to end her preparation prematurely.... The decision has been made to retire her. It is deeply disappointing for her owners Phoenix Thoroughbreds, the team at home and her fans. She gave us all great memories and we look forward to seeing her progeny on the track. Read the full story at Breednet https://www.breednet.com.au//1/loving-gaby-retired-to-stud

09.01.2022 Bivouac and Nature Strip faced off in Saturday’s $1,500,000 Group 1 Darley Sprint Classic (1200m) with the title of Australia’s champion short-course sprinter down the straight on the line. In the end it was no contest with Bivouac taking his career to new heights with an as arrogant as you like performance. While Nature Strip took up his favoured, front-running style, Glen Boss waited until he saw white in their eyes before unleashing on Bivouac at the 200 metres and it was ...matter of how far. 08.01.2022 2021 Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association Classes Looking for Sponsors - Created in 2019 as the brainchild of respected showjumper and unabashed thoroughbred fan Krissy Harris, the Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association goes from strength to strength in working towards the goal of improving demand for retired racehorses as competition horses. Increasing demand for retired racehorses in varying equestrian pursuits ensures our thoroughbreds find better quality homes with skilled ...riders, so they can enjoy fruitful second careers as they move through life. The racing portion of their life is frequently short taken in context with their overall lifespan which usually sees them live well into their 20’s, so initiatives such as TSHA classes are a vital piece in the puzzle of thoroughbred welfare. 07.01.2022 Australian Horse of the Year in 2006/2007 Miss Andretti has had a tough time since retiring to stud, but at last there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. Just minutes after the Shamus Award mare It’s Me kept her record at a perfect two for two with a hugely impressive performance in the Highway (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday, the Rosemont Farm stallion had a runaway winner on a bleak, windswept day at Wangaratta and this one is sure to resonate with fans. Coming o...ff a third at his career debut at Pakenham Park, the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Mr Raikkonen spaced a field of maidens by upwards of four and three-quarter lengths over 1400m giving hope that the champion racemare Miss Andretti may have finally found a good one. 06.01.2022 There is something quintessentially Aussie about Rothfire, the gelding no sales company wanted to sell thrashing the blue-blooded colts. He came, he saw, he conquered, Rothfire, the $10,000 sales reject from Queensland, looked an inspired choice for the Everest after he blew away a well-performed field of bluebloods in Saturday’s Group II Run To The Rose at Rosehill. 05.01.2022 Fastnet Rock colt Glenfiddich finished last season as the toughest juvenile in the country with nine starts on six different tracks in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales and on Saturday he’ll be trying to do what no other three year-old has done in 45 years. Trained last season by Robbie Griffiths, Glenfiddich is now in the care of champion trainer Peter Moody, who has selected the Group I MRC Memsie Stakes (1400m) at weight-for-age at Caufield as the starting poin...t for his spring campaign. Glenfiddich will carry only 50.5kg for his attempt to achieve a feat that hasn’t been done in 45 years with Battle Sign being the last three-year-old to win the Memsie Stakes in 1975. 01.01.2022 Every foaling season brings stories of joy along with disaster and this story from Holbrook Thoroughbreds brings us a poignant mix of both. Earlier this month, Julie Harris and her team had to go through a harrowing experience with blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice mare Antique Rose. Owned by Bob and Sandra Peters, Antique Rose was a full sister to their star producers Broadway Belle and Arcadia, who are the dams of Group I winners Regal Power and Arcadia Queen.... Arcadia Rose was in foal to their sire Pierro, so she was carrying a full sibling in blood to that dynamic duo. Sadly, she suffered a bad dystocia when foaling a filly, leaving both mare and foal near death. Read the full story at Breednet https://www.breednet.com.au//miracle-foal-brings-joy-to-ho

01.01.2022 Breednet's Pedigree Guide to the Melbourne Cup - The modern Melbourne Cup is a very different race to the one Brew won back in 2000 as in the 20 years since then the race has attracted widespread international participation both in terms of foreign trained horses and Northern Hemisphere sourced horses prepared by locals with the specific goal of winning our greatest race, so does pedigree matter anymore? For runners with proven form at 3000m plus, the pedigree point is moot as whatever genetics might be theorized from the pedigree page, have already been demonstrated in the horse, but for those untried at the trip we’ll have a look to see what might unfold in the last furlong on Tuesday.
