24.01.2022 Got reffed last weekend by one of my big Brothers Sean Lacy! Yes even he still had to tell me to shut my mouth at one point!

23.01.2022 Barney Rubble Report- Grand Final Edition 12/09/20 On Saturday morning, every single member of the Walgett Rams Rugby Union Club woke up with an erection becaus...e it was Home Grand Final Day. Next was saying ‘No’ to their partners in bed (Mitch Clarke told himself ‘no’ in this case) in order to keep that testosterone for kick off (Credit to Everything Rugby). After this, the club marched down on down to Algy Friend Oval for the first of the 2 Grand Finals to be held in Walgett that day. Second Grade kicked off against the Bourke Rams at noon, with the Walgett Rams 1st grade looking on and feeling sorry for the Bourke boys as they knew how much talent the Rams 2nd Grade team had, having played them in an opposed training run on Thursday. Walgett didn’t disappoint, immediately taking advantage of the Bourke lineout with Nick Brennan wreaking havoc for the Bourke thrower. A turnover early in the 1st half saw Walgett take the first points of the game through a rapid through the hands by the Rams which ended up with Jake Watts crossing the line. He was immediately overcome with emotion as he thought he had finally gotten out of the nudie run, until he was informed that he had scored plenty of tries this season, it was just this was the first game he was sober enough to remember. Many of the supporters thought this was the beginning of the end for the Bourke boys, expecting a blow out similar to the week before, however Bourke rallied with 2 tries of their own in the first half, and came into the break trailing 21-14. The second half was similarly hard fought between both sides, but the Rams backline featuring Dill Walford, Chuck Colless and the Selfish Monster proved too slick for Bourke, and they ended up securing the win with 2 extra tries, calling full time at 31-14. Bourke had the shits with the scoreline however, and showed their displeasure with a choking tackle on Colless. Will Chaffey’s ears pricked up when he heard someone yell You effing Dog and he wrongly assumed they were insulting his pure-bred King Charles Cavalier Princess, whom he chose over the Bus Trip to Cobar with the Rams a couple of weeks back. Chaff ran in to the scrap and promptly caught a flurry of fists, but came off smiling as he had defended his Princess’s honour. No more than 5 minutes after the biff, the Bourke boys realised they had to back up against the Warren Pumas in the 1st Grade 3rd vs 4th Playoff. They then sheepishly approached the Rams enjoying their winning beers, and (hat in hand) asked for some volunteers to play with them. Surprisingly, the Walgett boys accepted the request, and Hilly, Wheaton and Jared pulled on the blue and took on the Pumas. After this selfless act, it was commented that Rugby was the real winner on the day, Rugby, and Princess, who would be receiving extra cuddles from Chaffey that night, while Lila goes cold in the master bedroom. To the surprise of many, the Bourke/Walgett team took Warren all the way to the end of the match, with the Pumas only getting the win by a couple of points. Full credit to the Bourke Rams who played close to 150 minutes of rugby, and never dropped their heads. Finally, after a day of scintillating footy, the Big Dance was on. 3:15pm saw the start of the Grand Final between the Undefeated Walgett Rams and the Nyngan Bulls (so eloquently referred to as the Nyngan Steers by The Black Cat in his Warren Rugby Report). Jeers and Catcalls came from the sideline before Walgett kicked off, with many referring to an upcoming wedding and what the Grooms face would look like once the game was over, the insults were answered with Walgett giving Nyngan a Hot Cosby in one of the most dominant displays of rugby seen in a long time. Walgett went straight into defence mode with a deep kick into Nyngan territory by Fleetwood, leading to a couple of phases by the Bulls, before their winger broke the Walgett line and only had Grant Green to beat at Fullback. A grinning Green lined up the unlucky winger, and dropped him straight in his tracks, causing him to spill the ball and the crowd to take a deep breath at the sheer impact. The Rams won the scrum, and began their attack. Gaining the advantage line with almost every run of the ball (apart from Harry Pye who was nearly killed by a hit from the Nyngan No.12) Walgett marched up the field, before the ball was lost in contact, and a scrum was called 10m from the Nyngan line. Nyngan fed the ball to the scrum, and were promptly pushed over by the dominant Walgett pack led by O’Brien and Duncan. The Rams gained the feed for the following scrum, went for a push over try but the scrum fractured 5m out. This was all fine and dandy for Josh Hay McKenzie who scooted over for the first try of the match after picking the ball up from the back of the demolished scrum. A solid effort from Nyngan in the rest of the first half proved futile, as the Walgett scrum continued to dominate and turn the Nyngan feed over, or receive a penalty. The Chainsaw crossed the line, not so much for the Walgett Rams, but for his fan club (Country Rugby NSW) that had decided to turn up. Friend continually reminded the boys on Silly Sunday that the Country Selectors made the 8hr trip specifically to see him and no one else. The Rams went into the half time break leading 17-0, a quick chat from Blair Douglas who basically said Keep doing what you’re doing boys, and if you even think of doing a chip kick Fleetwood, you will be performing fellatio on Sunday Nyngan came out of the blocks firing in the 2nd half to the delight of their crowd of supporters who had been looking for something to cheer about. But this was short lasting, as the Rams weathered the Nyngan storm, then Blair Douglas began bringing on his reserves. Rory Finalyson made a big impact with some barnstorming runs through the Nyngan forwards before crossing for a try of his own. Will Chaffey passed his HIA test and followed Rory onto the field and lifted the forward pack to pick their game up. This was answered with Daniel Kahalalalalalala and Charlie Toll pinching a couple of lineouts each, just so the front row didn’t get all the set piece glory. Chuck Colless came onto the field with 25 minutes to go, taking the spot of Ed Murphy who had to leave early in order to update his Wikipedia page (seriously, go and read it) and for the 2nd time in 2 weeks scored a try with his first touch of the ball. Colless scored another try off the back of some devastating attack by Net Signa on the wing, and Harley Warden continued his pin balling across the field, refusing to be tackling by less than 3 people. The 25-minute blow out saw Walgett pile on 33 unanswered points to finish the match on a very nice sounding 50-0. Chainsaw Charlie picked up the Western Plains Player of the Year and Man of the Match (no surprises there with the Country Rep breathing over Peter Holcombe’s shoulder). And Jason Clarke received man of the match for the 2nd Grade Grand Final. Andrew Cosgrove from Warren received Man of the Match for the 3rd and 4th play off, and responded with an absolute dud of a speech. All in all, one of the most successful Walgett Rams Clubs to ever come through the Western Plains, and many thanks to the organisers on the Club lead by Troy Yeomans, and the coaches Blair Douglas and Andy Brayshaw. Silly Sunday was pretty weird as always, and as always, you won’t hear a peep out of me about it (apart from something about Hilly and a sister of a current player). Until next year. Regards. Barney Rubble

22.01.2022 The Club will not be competing in the Western Plains Competition in 2020 due to a combination of low player numbers, player commitment and financial costs. The Brumbies hope to return in 2021.

20.01.2022 Season 2020 Update! Today saw the state government announce that as of July 1st senior community sport would be returning alongside juniors. In terms of what t...his means for Western Plains Rugby: As of July 1st clubs can begin contact training. Until then training must be conducted in groups of 10 with no contact. This also depends on whether local councils have opened ovals for community use. This does not mean a competition will start on July 4th. There are many factors that need to be worked through before we reach that point. Including : >Clubs having the chance to train with full contact before commencing full games. > NSW Rugby have indicated that the earliest a competition will be sanctioned to start is July 18th > The viability of a running a competition and also what that competition would look like considering the start date. > What hygiene and health restrictions will be in place and how these will effect game days, including crowd numbers which are vital to the financial security our clubs and their sponsors that have also been affected by the covid 19 shutdown and resulting health guidelines. > Insurance and registration costs in a shortened season. We will be having a meeting in the coming weeks to discuss all the above if you wish to have some input into season 2020, please get in contact with your local club who will all be meeting in the near future.
