22.01.2022 Congratulations to Joseph Corica for the recognition of his ability and contribution to Goju-Kai Karate over 50 years. Three times Australian Champion and National Team Member Joseph's wealth of knowledge and experience makes him a valued instructor at the Academy. It was an honor to present Joseph his Godan certificate from Saiko Shihan.

I am frequ...ently told that all karate is the same, and that the differences in ryu become smaller as we progress until they eventually disappear. This clip proves that statement false since anyone who knows the Goju-Kai will be able to identify the karate as distinctly Goju-Ryu. See more

13.01.2022 First step in getting back to normality with a good turn-up for our first advanced grading test post Covid 19 pandemic. Thanks to Vasili Gotsis and Ian Richards Shihans and instructors Andrew Bennett, Au Hii and Ben Mackie for their input. Thanks to members who witnessed the presentation of IKGA Shodan Grade Certificates to Nino and Pula and Nidan Certificates to Amanda and Peter.

09.01.2022 With a tinge of sadness - the Academy, I often described as a time capsule - is to be demolished. The building as great as it was as a karate venue was not the soul of Brian Mackie's Karate Academy. It was the students past and present that made the Academy what it was and will be in a new venue. Together, we will continue the tradition of excellence we have maintained for the past 53 years. My sincere appreciation to the instructors and members for their support.

09.01.2022 Okinawa Karate. Tenryu Kata by Goshi Yamaguchi. Tenryu, means the heaven dragon which is pursuing the ideal of Goju. Heaven is linked to the space and implicat...e the absolute oneness. This kata has 66 techniques performed in 8 directions, 33 defensive and 33 offensive tecniques. Saikoshihan Goshi Yamaguchi told me, that his father had the strong vision that the performance of this kata should be done, as the dragon will slovly disapear into the heaven and into the void. Saikoshihan performed this kata just recently in public. He told me, that he had, at the time of composing the Kata to make marks on the floor, in order to be able to keep the orientation, after so many turns of the circular motions. See more

08.01.2022 Gogen Yamaguchi Kaiso was quite adept at using a variety of traditional Japanese weapons. Here he is seen doing a demonstration with Kusari-fundo (), a hand held weapon used in feudal Japan consisting of a chain with a weighted end.

Pat was Sakai Karates 1...st ever Black Belt under Sensei David Coulter MBE and went onto achieve 5x World Titles in karate. He Became 1 of the Best fighters Ever to Grace the Tatami. On the left is a shop front with huge poster of Leonardo Da Vinci and the entrance to the training area. Lunch-time session 12 1 pm. Parking is available under Harvey Norman.... First two hours are free but stay longer than that and you will be charged for the whole time. Evening session at 6.30pm. Should be plenty of street parking after 6.
