25.01.2022 TECHNIQUE SESSION - THE JAB! Youll hear every boxing coach say it - "the jab the most important punch in boxing." And, there are MANY ways to use it. In this video Coach Rob runs you through how to throw a good jab as well as a few different ways to use it both on the attack and in defence. Check out those flip flops! You dont have time to put your shoes on in a street fight! Pow!

25.01.2022 Back to basics with some simply block and counter drills.

24.01.2022 Heres another modern day classic for you to enjoy. https://youtu.be/fkLNoNNN9Gs

23.01.2022 IMPROVE YOUR FOOTWORK TIPS 1. Wear proper boxing shoes - thinner, prevent sliding, allow pivoting. 2. Skip rope - best mimics leg use in boxing, improves foot coordination.... 3. Posture - better balance, easier to move/pivot with a straight spine! 4. R-E-L-A-X - a stiff upper body will restrict your lower body movement. Let your whole body move. 5. Always land or push off using the balls of your feet. 6. Narrow your stance - you'll be able to take bigger steps and pivot easier. 7. Take smaller steps - you will never be quick enough if your goal is to step further.

23.01.2022 It has been a little while but @84emer and @skeelsie are Back into some contact drills.

23.01.2022 BOXING TECHNIQUE - MOVING WITH THE BAG. A lot of people struggle to move around with the bag and land even one good shot, let alone put together a combination. As always, dont jump straight to the end and think you can nail it - baby steps first! And thats just it, start by pushing the bag and JUST moving around with it before you even start trying to hit it as well. Get your balance, timing, footwork and distance sorted and then you can start letting your hands go

22.01.2022 As most of us probably have a bit of time to kill we have decided to start putting up some fights for everyone to watch. The first fight Im putting up is the first fight out of a trilogy between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward. Although this is not one of the most technical fights it is a highly entertaining clash between two fighters that are known to have no quit and were both at a crossroads in their careers and fighting to stay relevant and keep their careers alive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n4A_0Znd50&feature=share

22.01.2022 POT SHOT DRILL We see it all too often - regardless of skill or punching power, the fighter that is busier/hungrier wins. This of course stems from the way you train. If youre looking for rest breaks on the bag then youre going to be looking for rest breaks in a fight as well. This drill well help you to up your work rate and as a result will also help you to keep the pressure on your opponent.

21.01.2022 Do you ever get the feeling that someone is watching you?

21.01.2022 When someone tries to tell you that you 'punch like a girl'..... MATE. I dare ya to get in the ring with some of our girls. Hat. Salt. Eat it.

20.01.2022 This next fight is a modern day classic between the crafty veteran Nonito Donaire and the young power puncher Naoya Inoue. Definitely worth a watch https://youtu.be/S9CqKAwOj90

20.01.2022 The slip ball is one of my favourite boxing tools but you really dont see it being used all that often. I used to use it a lot when my hands were sore as it gave a break from the heavy bag. Its also a fantastic tool for you to use to mix up your shadow boxing and its a very cheap and easy thing for you to make and use at home. Heres a quick look at how to make your own slip ball and an instructional on how to use it.

19.01.2022 PSA . With today's announcements of Stage Two easing of restrictions being brought forward...we're sorry to say that we won't be reopening tomorrow, June 1st. . Less than 24 hours notice of the changes unfortunately doesn't give us the ability to bring forward and put in place (in full) our COVID-Safe Plan that quickly.... . HOWEVER!! . We are excited to announce that the gym WILL be REOPEN as of next Monday, the 8th of June!!!! . Our brand new timetable will be released tomorrow night, and our current members will be contacted with regards to how things are going to look and feel a little different for us to abide by the government guidelines. . More run-throughs and information will be on our social media pages throughout the week as well, so keep an eye out so you're on top of everything happening. . As always, please message us with any questions, queries or concerns...otherwise we'll see you BACK in the gym in 8 days time. . Love Beeny, Jarrett and Rob See more

16.01.2022 BRICKHOUSE BOXING - REPETITION CREATES THE MASTER. We've all heard it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill - now whether or not that's true, it's without a doubt that you need to dedicate a significant amount of time to your craft if you're going to be any good - it doesn't just happen by accident... at least for most of us. The beauty of these exercises is that it's drilling in movement patterns and connecting all the movements required for a good punch and/or c...ombo - our feet, hips, shoulders and hands all have to move together in order to generate optimum power. You may find the first couple of parts to this drill very easy, but once you're required to mix your punches up, move your feet with the punches and move around the bag whilst maintaining good balance and timing... it starts to get a little trickier. So take your time with it and understand that you won't be perfect at it straight away. If you do dedicate time to this exercise, what you'll find is that your balance will improve and all the individual movements required to come together for the perfect punch or combo will become second nature See more

14.01.2022 BASIC SLIPPING OVERVIEW: In this video we give you a basic rundown on how and when to slip along with a couple of pointers that will help you to get off the line. We also show you how to incorporate slipping into your bag rounds. Its not rocket science but if you havent been taught the fundamentals of slipping this may be a little too advanced for you. Hit us up if youre needing some closer attention

14.01.2022 So good to have the kids back in for boxing this week! Somehow they've all come back with a very good level of both skill and fitness! Well done youngsters

14.01.2022 THE BASICS OF ROLLING UNDER PUNCHES: Make em miss and make em pay! Theres many different forms of defence but rolling under punches is one of our favourites. Its used in close quarters and if done correctly you can avoid taking any damage while in turn inflicting some of your own.... Were progressing from the slip into the roll, so if you havent got your slips down yet... keep working on them and then come back to this video

13.01.2022 Reposted from @_coach_rob_ Some really good boxing from these ladies this morning

13.01.2022 Rhythm is everything in boxing. Every move you make starts with your heart, and that’s in rhythm or you’re in trouble. Sugar Ray Robinson

11.01.2022 Massive thanks to the @fortitudeboxing team for coming down to Brickhouse for some rounds this morning! Some very good boxing to watch - well done everyone

09.01.2022 After today's cabinet meeting announcements, and subsequently the timeline set by the QLD Government...it looks like we're on track to RE-OPEN again in the not-TOO-distant future. We are INCREDIBLY excited, however we must all remember that it's not going to be 'business as usual', and there will be new gym rules and regulations to follow upon return - both for staff and members, to ensure all of our safety. Now that we have a timeline, the #brickhousebosses will be getting t...ogether this week to discuss a plan of action, and then we will release a re-opening date for you all, along with some other information with how it's all going to work! We cannot WAIT to see all of your faces again - even if it is from a socially acceptable distance away

09.01.2022 Not many people are willing to spend time fine-tuning the very basic (but very important) aspects of boxing. @rydacu79 is one of those people and @_coach_rob_ loves nothing more than a perfectly executed punch or combo

09.01.2022 Here's another modern day classic for you to enjoy. https://youtu.be/fkLNoNNN9Gs

08.01.2022 Our @brickhouse.boxing classes have been booking out EVERY week/class since we re-opened, so it's time we added another for you all. @_coach_rob_ will now be running a DOUBLE on Wednesdays, so you can take your pick from either the 5.30-6.15pm class, OR the 6.15pm-7pm class Who said we didn't look after you guys? #brisbaneboxinggym #coorparooboxinggym #brickhands #hitlikeabrick #brickhousegym #brickhouseboxers #brickhousefam #workhard

07.01.2022 BOXING TECHNIQUE - HOW TO ADD A 3RD PUNCH TO YOUR JAB, CROSS: Throwing two punches is relatively easy in comparison to throwing three. We often see people making the same mistakes when trying to add a third punch to their Jab, Cross... heres a little insight into what those issues are and how to fix them! As always, you cant fix something if you dont even realise youre doing it wrong, so take a look and see if any of this applies to you (it probably does), then start drilling these techniques over and over again so you can get it right

07.01.2022 BRICKHOUSE BOXING - STANCE & FOOTWORK It always amazes us how many people are taught to throw punches before they know how to get into a boxing stance or move their feet. Quality punches and combos stem from whats happening at the ground level, so if youre feet arent doing what theyre supposed to, your punches are going to suffer.... Heres a simple break down on how to get into a good boxing stance along with a basic drill on how to move your feet. If you think youre too advanced for this drill... youre wrong! These are the basics you should be drilling EVERYDAY!

07.01.2022 TECHNIQUE SESSION - THE JAB! You'll hear every boxing coach say it - "the jab the most important punch in boxing." And, there are MANY ways to use it. 06.01.2022 Solid crew tonight! All working hard and making improvements

05.01.2022 If youre struggling to stay on track, chances are you dont ACTUALLY have a plan. Your training plan doesnt have to be complicated but you do need something that you can follow and build on. Heres a starting point that everyone can adhere to. And you can certainly build on this as your fitness improves - increase the number of rounds you do, reduce your rest rounds, increase the distance youre running in 20 mins... Whatever it is, we need to see progression!

05.01.2022 Every single person has a cause that’s worth fighting for, whether physically or emotionally. But only you can decide if your own fight is worth the battle. (Hot tip: it always is.)

05.01.2022 Give ‘em the ole’ One-Two. Have you heard this phrase uttered? Do you know where it comes from?... As early as the 1900’s, boxing trainers used numbers to symbolise specific combinations. It was a way to identify exact punches quickly and efficiently. A ONE is a Left Jab and a TWO is a Straight Right Cross. These are two of the most basic and effective punches in boxing. Basic, effective and straight-to-the-point.

03.01.2022 What a bunch of stylish lookers Halloween arrived in the boxing studio this morning - it was a little bit steamy being all dressed up (or maybe that was just @_coach_rob_ being in the room?) If you need a medic, he's your guy

03.01.2022 BRICKHOUSE BOXING - LADDER DRILLS Here's a few of my favourite ladder drills. Obviously they help with your footwork and coordination but they're also a good way to build some endurance in your legs as you stay on your toes, which is very applicable to boxing. You can also throw these drills in amongst other exercises to make it more of a workout and simulate being fatigued in your boxing rounds but still having to move your feet. Now... I hear you saying, "but I don't have a ladder ... wah wah wah!". Well go out and buy some damn chalk or tape or whatever and draw one up in your driveway! HOP TO IT!

03.01.2022 This weeks fight is between two all time greats from possibly the greatest era in boxing. This fight was originally billed as "The Fight", referred to afterward as "The War", was a world middleweight championship boxing match between undisputed champion Marvin Hagler and challenger Thomas Hearns, the world junior middleweight champion, who had gone up in weight for the bout. https://youtu.be/yqtiewLWEn4

02.01.2022 BOXING FITNESS (at home edition) You do not need much equipment to work on your boxing skills and the same goes for your fitness. If youre serious about boxing then youll find a way to stay fit, regardless of your situation. Heres an easy to follow plan that you can put yourself through multiple times per week. Get onto it! Because you will get found out if your not fight fit, regardless of your skill level

01.01.2022 BOXING FROM HOME! A very basic home boxing workout. This one requires very little equipment - just a skipping rope and some light (1-2kg) dummbells (or something of equivalent weight that you can hold in your hands). Check it out and get started!
