25.01.2022 Pretty chuffed.

24.01.2022 Overuse of Social Media can lead to increased feelings of isolation and loneliness, but it can also be used to open up opportunities for more real-life meetings and new social opportunities, to overcome loneliness. University of Wollongong sociologist, Roger Patulny, said social media platforms should be used to facilitate more meet-ups in the real world. https://www.abc.net.au//social-media-use-leading-/11966426

23.01.2022 Ok. I am no Jana Wendt but I had a go. Fortunately David is a pro and so we managed to get something recorded for the Conference.

18.01.2022 Im currently reading The Body Knows the Score by Bessel vanderkolk which has encouraged me to think about how the physical therapy of yoga could be interwoven into traditional psychotherapy to help those affected by trauma. Watch this space!

18.01.2022 With thanks to Dan Piraro from www.bizarro.com for keeping us smiling in tough times

17.01.2022 https://www.abc.net.au//mental-health-treatment-e/10382532 "Mental health groups are alarmed by what they say is the insurance industry's move to discourage people from seeking treatment so they can have policy exclusions lifted. "I think the idea that you would set a time limit on whether or not someone experiences a relapse in their mental health, is a really challenging one," SANE Australia deputy chief Michelle Blanchard said.... "The nature of mental illness is that it is often episodic, and really for people to recover and be well and be healthy, having a sort of arbitrary deadline that then determines whether or not they can receive a policy can actually be quite detrimental."

17.01.2022 Psychological help after the Bushfires Bridge Psych is happy to offer 'no-cost' counselling and treatment to assist people who have been psychologically affected by the fires. The federal Government has launched a Bushfire Recovery Access Program which simplifies access to therapy without the usual requirement for a mental health care plan from a referring GP. It's available to families and residents directly affected by fire, emergency response personnel and volunteers. Bridge is not charging a 'gap' for this service. https://www.bridgepsychologists.com.au/bushfire

14.01.2022 https://www.stylist.co.uk//digital-therapy-telepsyc/232521 AN interesting appraisal of the role of TelePsychology. In short; The technology is helpful in many ways, but it shouldn't completely replace face to face therapy... and don't treat it like Netflix!

13.01.2022 Had such a great time tonight with my staff at the APS Clinical College Jobs Expo that I forgot to take a snap! The time lapse video is coming soon though. Thanks to the local Committee for organising such a wonderful evening. BCP is on the look out for admin staff (undergraduate psych students), a psych assistant (Honours psych grad) and a MPsych completer moving towards endorsement all of whom are ready to start ASAP. Please contact us via email if you are interested.

13.01.2022 Caroline Overlington gets it right again in the most recent Weekend Australian when she reports on psychologist Jordan Peterson's considered answer to a young ...man's question about why he shouldn't suicide. The last of the four reasons he gave was this; if you take your life it won't end the pain. The pain will simply be transferred to other people who then have to live their lives in agony. So don't do it. Try everything else first and then stop yourself one more time (Lifeline 131114). See more

02.01.2022 By the great Gary Larson (www.thefarside.com)

01.01.2022 Bridge Psych is involved with providing Psychological support for Fly-in, Fly-out workers in remote parts of the state. Thanks Jeremy for volunteering to cope with the warmth and sunshine in the desert last week.

01.01.2022 Sadly some Psychologists are more intent on tearing down the profession, rather than advancing their skills to improve mental health. __ Dear Olivia, I know thats not your real name. If you really believed any of that rubbish you posted you would have had the conviction to publish it under your own name rather than hiding behind a fake identity.... I would happily meet you in person, or discuss these issues with you in a professional forum. Perhaps the next APS meeting? Our discourse could help shape the future direction of Psychology in Australia. But this Olivia persona is just another cowardly troll. Especially as you have posted it on my professional Facebook page. The malicious personal slander is particularly disappointing if it reflects the integrity and professional standards of Australias future psychologists. To address your concerns. Clinical Psychologists undertake eight years of training to equip them to treat complex mental health disorders. The Australian Health System, Medicare and Workcover owe it to the Australian public to ensure that clinical psychologists are highly skilled and up to date with the latest research in Mental Health. A higher rebate for clinical psychologists is not a reason that psychology services will be scrapped, but instead is a sign that the government wants to ensure the best possible people treat the Australian public. But let us be clear. The higher rebate is currently only for Medicare and not for the other services you quote. If you must protest against the Clinical College then please get your facts straight. As you know, there are numerous fields in psychology; Neuropsych, Forensic, Educational and many others, including those who choose to offer a broad General Psychology service. Each is a vital component in the wider mental health landscape. Clinical Psychologists do not discriminate against any other branch of the profession. They just do what they are trained to do and would be concerned if untrained people claimed to be able to offer the same service. If, God forbid, you were to discover you had a brain tumour would you prefer to have your operation undertaken by your General Practitioner or would you consult a Neurosurgeon? If your house short-circuits do you think you would call a builder, or an electrician? Your Supervisor, if you are indeed a student, did not walk into his or her position without first completing the appropriate training. Training does matter. I run my business the same way. Our psychologists are regularly undertaking new training, peer reviews, further study and attending industry conferences. We want to offer the best care and the most effective treatment possible to clients who are putting their lives in our hands.
