24.01.2022 Thank you to the Courier for the candidate profile they published today. I hope to bring my skills & experience to Council but even more importantly, I am excited by the opportunity to genuinely listen to people and represent the needs of South Ward.
23.01.2022 Who went and played in the snow today? It was so magical! The dogs weren't sure what to make of it though!
23.01.2022 Nominations are now closed and the ballot draw has been done. Vote 1 Bridget Aitchison!
22.01.2022 I am now officially registered as a candidate for South Ward with the Victorian Electoral Commission!
20.01.2022 The Courier published my OpEd today. It calls for us to create an Arts, Culture and Entertainment (ACE) precinct. The Bridge Mall is perfect for this.
17.01.2022 Right now the last public Council meeting of the current Council is happening. If you’re interested to see what your current councillors are up to, jump online now and watch. Be informed when you cast your vote. Do you want the same thing we’ve had for the last 4 years? Or is it time for something new? #FreshPerspective http://webcast.ballarat.vic.gov.au/
14.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who offered to let me put a sign up in their front yard. We still have a few corflutes that need a home. Marcus and Roxy are begging for people to please get these out of their house. Does anyone have a front yard on a reasonably well trafficked street that we can put a sign or two up in? We will do the work. You just need to say, Pick me!. The dogs will thank you. (So will their human!).
13.01.2022 Ballarat’s new Arts, Culture and Entertainment Precinct is a world class venue that provides a worthy rival to those found in major cities right here in the heart of regional Victoria. Ballarat has taken its thriving and vibrant Arts and Culture scene to new heights, attracting tourism, providing opportunities for local established and emerging artists, giving families great recreational options, and creating jobs. 12.01.2022 If you missed tonight’s live forum, it’s all recorded here. 7 of the 8 South Ward candidates spoke tonight about who we are, what we see as priorities in this election and answered questions from viewers.
12.01.2022 Come and join us tonight to hear the South Ward candidates tell you a bit about themselves and answer your questions. Yes, I'll be there!
10.01.2022 Innovation and ingenuity right here in Ballarat. Well done to Sandy and Gekko. Big ideas are possible. #FreshPerspective #BigIdeas
09.01.2022 What do you think of the idea of turning Bridge Mall into an Arts, Culture, and Entertainment Precinct that benefits us all? Comment below and share your thoughts on this. Thanks to The Courier for publishing this today. #FreshPerspective #BigIdeas
08.01.2022 Tonight is South Ward's turn at the Ballarat Times News Group candidate forum. If you're undecided still about who you will vote for, this might help you figure that out! I'll be joining my fellow candidates tonight. You can watch it on Facebook Live on the Ballarat Times News Group page.
06.01.2022 This. Yes. Do this. Vale Justice Ginsberg.
06.01.2022 When the newspaper's typesetter hears the editor wrong. Luckily I have a good sense of humour. This may be the best laugh I've had this week. But thank you to the Ballarat Times for the opportunity to tell their readers a little bit about myself (and for fixing the title in the digital and online versions of the article!). (p.s. the title was supposed to be "Dean Keen on Seat").
05.01.2022 Hey Ballarat! Good news! We are opening up on Thursday! Step 3 comes into effect at 11.59pm tomorrow night.
05.01.2022 It was a privilege to be able to talk to the press this week about the importance of renewable energy to create jobs and save residents money. The Ballarat Greyhound Track have installed solar power and this is something we want to see available to all community sporting facilities and clubs so the savings they make as a result can be invested into equipment and facilities so their members can keep doing better what they do best. #FreshPerspective #Bridget4BallaratSouth #RenewableEnergy #Environment
03.01.2022 I was honoured to be interviewed for this article in our local newspaper (The Courier). Rochelle Kirkman did a great job and asked all the right questions. While not everything we said could make it into the article, she did cover a broad range of issues across all of the women interviewed. From time to time I've been asked a few questions about gender and diversity in politics, so I thought I'd answer some of them here in this post. 02.01.2022 Yesterday I was at the Ballarat Greyhound Track to talk to the media about the installation of solar panels to run the complex on renewable energy. Cr Des Hudson, my running mate in South Ward, also joined me. We hope this is the start of providing inexpensive renewable energy to community sporting facilities and clubs so that they can put the money they save into the things that matter for their members. The City Council has set a net zero target for 2030 for all Council ...buildings. However, we can do so much more than that. The technology and partnerships exist to create a micro grid that benefits ALL of Ballarat - businesses, residents, community facilities and Council buildings. Ballarat can generate, store and transmit renewable energy and position itself as a national leader in this field. This brings training opportunities and jobs to the region as well. Cheaper energy for all of us and more jobs. This is no longer a fringe idea....this is a mainstream possibility. So I was proud to promote the use of solar energy for community facilities in South Ward. I also really enjoyed the cuddles I got from the dogs... until I got home. Roxy and Marcus, my dachshunds, sniffed me and knew I had cheated on them. Oh dear.
02.01.2022 Watching tonight’s livestream of the Council meeting, there were shocking revelations from an independent investigation, the full contents of which will not be made public before the election, of bullying, assault, sexual harassment, and improper procurement procedures. Despite six councillors (all except Crs MacIntosh, Tillet and Rinaldi) pushing hard for these reports to be released publicly, this will not happen. The Councillors themselves will not even be given the full reports. This seems to be against the public interest considering an election is happening. Transparency on Council still has a long way to go and if a councillor is implicated, the public has the right to know.
