23.01.2022 Notice of AGM: Tuesday 24th September 5pm at Ray White Office Bridgetown followed by general meeting

18.01.2022 The Bridgetown Harness Racing Club held the AGM on Tuesday 24th September at their main sponsors premises, Ray White Bridgetown. The club was happy to vote back in the existing committee on for another year. This includes President Graham Waters, Vice President Nathan Meade, Secretary Emily Tunstall and Treasurer Jo Moore. The club would like to express their thanks to all the local community groups and members of the public, who support the club and keep the events running... smoothly. Our regular contributors include Bridgetown Football Club, Bridgetown Primary School P&C, Bridgetown High School P&C, Bridgetown Freemasons, and St John Ambulance. Without them, the committee would not be able to host our two yearly events. As the club finished the financial year profitably, we would like to give back to the community that supports us. We would like to make a $200 donation to a local group, but we just don't know who yet! So we are asking volunteer groups to contact us and tell us why their organisation should receive a donation. Email [email protected], and tell us who you are, who you serve and what you would do with a $200 gift from the Trotting Club. Submissions close Sunday 20th October at 5pm.

15.01.2022 Thank you to the amazing community groups who applied for our $200 donation. We are so impressed with the great work our local volunteers and community groups do. The Executive Committee are catching up later this week to decide on the winner. It will be a tough decision, but hopefully it won't be the last time we are able to offer our assistance this way. Stay tuned!

14.01.2022 From the Stables week ending 10th October 2021, by Shayne Rice Pinjarra Monday 4th October 2021 Miss Pocket Rocket (Bred by Dave Stringer, Bridgetown) started the week for horses with a local connection. Drawn seven, in the fillies and mares event, she was able to settle into the one one, however this was some five lengths off the leaders. Despite being put into the race at the 500m mark, she was unable to sustain her run to finish in sixth....Continue reading

12.01.2022 From the Stables week ending 26th September 2021 Grumpy Waters continues to take the reins as President of the Bridgetown Harness Racing Club following the AGM last week. The club is in a very sound financial position and has plans for upgrades to the reinswomen’s changerooms and the erection of a permanent extended cover over the bar area. Disco Demon (Owned and bred by John and Sue Awcock, Bridgetown) was the sole locally connected starter at Pinjarra on Monday. Drawn four,... and sent forward at barrier rise, the gelding made his way to the lead going down the back straight the first time. After being hassled by the breeze horse and eventual winner throughout the running, he tired to run fourth in a quickly run race. Stablemate to Disco Demon, Disco Dynamo (Owned and bred by John and Sue Awcock, Bridgetown) trailed at Pinjarra on Wednesday. The three-year-old was impressive in winning his heat in 1:59:1 and may be worth following on his return to racing. Iswhat Itis (Bendotti brothers in ownership group) did his penance and trialed successfully following his misdemeanors at Narrogin last weekend. Suing You (Peter Bloxsome in ownership group) also trialing from a break, broke soon after the start but was quickly settled and ran out the trial, finishing fourth of four behind the winner Hurricane Harley in a mile rate of 1:55:0. Alta Rhett (Bred by Dave Stringer also in ownership, Bridgetown) drew eleven in the second race at headquarters on Friday night. Settling three back on the rails, reinsman Nathan Turvey switched him four wide at the top of the straight allowing him to run into third and continuing his consistent recent form. Hit The Sky (Greg Starkie, Manjimup, part of the ownership group) and Disco Under Fire (Bred by John and Sue Awcock, Bridgetown) fronted up against each other in the 2503m standing start event. Stepping from barrier four, Hit the Sky stepped safely to land three back on the rails. With recent winner Gee Smith looking to have pinched the race at the top of the straight, Aldo Cortopassi was able to extricate the gelding four wide and storm up the straight to get up for the win right on the line. Hit The Sky an impressive winner at Gloucester Park on Friday night. Disco Under Fire stepped beautifully from his ten-metre handicap settling five back on the rails four lengths off the leader. Despite the relatively soft run, he gave little in the run home and finished down the track. Miss Pocket Rocket (Bred by Dave Stringer, Bridgetown) rounded out the week in the second at Kellerberrin on Sunday. Avoiding a galloping horse at the start, she settled in the one one after spending some time in the breeze. Looking a danger at the top of the straight, she was one of a wall of horses that charged up the straight finishing a very close up fifth.

11.01.2022 From the Stables week ending 3rd October 2021, by Shayne Rice Interestingly, we have thirty (30) horses listed in the Black Book with a local Bridgetown / Manjimup region connection. Some are currently in the Stables while others are being prepared for the spring / summer season and we look forward to following their progress as they come back into racing. Thanks to a follower of this weekly article for alerting me to one I was not aware of, Just Like Turbo (Bred by Dave ...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Late in 2019, the Bridgetown Harness Racing Club put a call out to fellow community groups to offer a $200 donation. We just wanted to ask the question what would you use it for and why do you need the funds? Needless to say, we were so impressed with the amazing work that our local volunteers are doing for the community. It was a tough decision, so we decided to support two clubs! The Blackwood Pony Club wrote a fantastic letter, penned by one of their young members Will...ow Williamson. The pony club was looking for support to purchase showing jumping equipment that was not only used by their club, but loaned to the Bridgetown Agricultural Society for the Bridgetown Show. We loved that Willow wrote the letter herself, and that the club also shared with another community group. The BHRC was thrilled to make a contribution of $200 towards their equipment. Another request received by Ashbil Community Gardens was also worthy of our support. We decided on donating $100 to put towards their water bill, since so much time and energy was put into making our town beautiful and educating our community about the environment. The BHRC plans on being more present in the community and support other groups, by making a donation when we are profitable. We feel this is a small contribution we can make to those that are volunteer led, short on funds and working hard to make Bridgetown better for everyone. See more

07.01.2022 From the Stables week ending 12th September 2021, by Shayne Rice Iswhat Itis (Bendotti brothers in ownership group) kicked off proceedings for pacers with a local connection at Pinjarra last Monday. Settling one out one back but five or six lengths off the leaders, the gelding was left a little flat footed when the leaders quickened the pace at the 600m mark. From sixth at the bell, Iswhat It is finally finished eighth. Hit The Sky (Greg Starkie, Manjimup, part of the ownersh...ip group) faced up from 10m in the 2631m standing start event. Stepping cleanly Hit The Sky lobbed three back on the rails then four back as Medieval Man went to the lead. The gelding ran home soundly into fourth maintaining its consistent form. The Situation (Owned by Tim Blee, Manjimup) was the only local to front up at the Gloucester Park mid-week meeting. Drawn 3 in the 2536m event, driver Shannon Suvaljko settled him three back on the rails. Although beautifully extricated into the one out one back position at the bell, the horse did not run on to finish down the track. Disco Demon (Owned and bred by John and Sue Awcock, Bridgetown) and Hillview Bondi (Owned and bred by the Bendotti family Pemberton) fronted up against each other over the metric mile in Race 1 at Bunbury on Friday night. Drawn 6 and 7 respectively, Hillview Bondi was sent froward to settle in the breeze, while Disco Demon was restrained to the rear of the field. Hillview Bondi battled on to run third while Chris Voak utilized the sprint lane to run fourth with Disco Demon in a quickly run race in a mile rate of 1:54:1. Miss Pocket Rocket (Bred by Dave Stringer, Bridgetown) went forward from barrier three and was able to settle one one as the favourite and eventual winner Marie Long went to the breeze. The mare battled on for a handy fourth. Saturday night saw a return to headquarters following the rearrangement for the football on Friday night. Alta Rhett (Bred by Dave Stringer also in ownership, Bridgetown) stepped out from barrier six in the fourth event and was immediately restrained to the rear of the field. From here he had little chance to find a run through a wall of horses and with the leaders running a 57.7 final half he finished eighth. Finally Hit The Sky (Greg Starkie, Manjimup, part of the ownership group) and Disco Under Fire (Bred by John and Sue Awcock, Bridgetown) lined up against each other in the 2536m standing start event. Hit The Sky followed up his third at Pinjarra on Monday with a scratchy start off the front line and settling sixth back on the rails. Reinsman Aldo Cortopassi angled him into the moving line where he ran home strongly three wide from the 600m mark finishing a strong second beaten by a neck. Disco Under Fire stepped cleanly from10m and settled four back on the rails. Unfortunately, he was unable to gather any momentum in the run up the straight to finish seventh. See more

04.01.2022 From the Stables week ending 19th September 2021, by Shayne Rice A reminder the AGM is on this Wednesday 22nd September at 5:00pm at Ray White office. This week kicked off at Pinjarra with Disco Demon (Owned and bred by John and Sue Awcock, Bridgetown) being first cab off the rank. Drawn the widest alley the three-year-old was immediately taken to the back of the field by Jocelyn Young. Forced four and five wide at the top of the straight, he ran home strongly to finish what ...Continue reading
