25.01.2022 Vehicle and harvest ban today. 11am - 6pm - from Bridgetown chief fire control officer.

25.01.2022 A great informative learning and training exercise up at Highlands well attended by home owners and land holders. Practical information about being Fire Prepared for the Fire season ahead. The Hester Brigade, DFES staff and volunteers gave good information on learnings from past fires with an emphasis on being prepared, watch and act. Actual examples of fires reacting to different accelerants, grasses, mulches and wind speed were conducted by fire fighters from The Hester Brigade. Thank you to all who were involved. The Support Brigade were pleased to be able to Dust off and reacquaint ourselves with procedures, vehicles and equipment.

23.01.2022 We are still two weeks out from the start of summer but as we have seen on the east coast, it's not a case of "if" but "when" you will need to activate your Bush Fire Plan this bush fire season. The Kangaroo Gully and Hester Brook Bushfire Ready crew will be at the community stall in Hampton Street THIS SATURDAY MORNING (16th) to answer any queries you may have on how to prepare for the bush fire season. Their advice is available to all residents and landholders. Pop in and have a FIRE CHAT!

23.01.2022 We saw on another page that someone was asking about where the evacuation centre was in the event of an emergency, so we looked for a sign...and found it! You will note that the Recreation Centre is signposted as No. 1. Evacuation Centre. This means it is the preferred evacuation centre for Bridgetown. However if the Recreation Centre is under threat from the incident, other Evacuation Centres have been identified and can be used, including the Bridgetown Town Hall, Greenb...ushes Hall and Yornup Hall. So, how do you know which one to go to in the event of a fire or other incident where your plan is to leave for a safer place? There are two ways: 1. Go to www.emergency.wa.gov.au where the published warning will contain details of which evacuation centre has been activated. 2. Listen to updates on ABC radio, the official emergency service broadcaster

23.01.2022 As summer gets closer, we get busier. We have been out and about this weekend assisting our neighbours in Hester Brook Volunteer Bushfire Brigade on Saturday at their Bush Fire Ready event, where residents were given information on preparing their properties for the bush fire season, combined with a demonstration of fire behaviour in different fuels. The Hester Brook Brigade has done an extraordinary amount of work leading into summer visiting properties and providing guidan...ce to landholders on fire preparedness. On Sunday crews from Hester Brook, Greenbushes Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Winnejup and Bridgetown Bush Fire Brigades undertook a combined exercise in Hester townsite to look at how crews could protect the community if they were being impacted by a bush fire. There are around 40 houses in Hester as well as a large timber processing facility surrounded by state forest. Residents were invited afterwards to discuss their bush fire action plans with crews over a snag.

22.01.2022 With a dryer than usual winter, we are encouraging all residents to prepare their properties now. This includes any burn offs that need to be done on your property. It is likely that if September is dry also, fire restrictions will come into effect early October, where permits will be issued only for essential activities and not general burn offs.

21.01.2022 Early season Training at 2 venues today for our local Volunteer Fire Fighters and an opportunity for the Support Brigade catering teams to look at providing good quality morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas observing covid standards. Thanks to all those that participated.

19.01.2022 SANTA RUN 2018 After taking twelve months to dry out from last years visit to Bridgetown, Santa will be back in Bridgetown on Tuesday 18 December from 4pm to approx 6pm. He has promised to visit Bridgetown Gardens, Four Seasons and Highlands estates as well as the Bridgetown townsite. Of course, if we get a fire call, we will need to recall the fire trucks and get the fella in red to assist with water bombing using the sleigh and reindeer.

19.01.2022 The crew were busy yesterday making sustenance packs for firefighters in readiness for when a fire occurs. Many thanks to all who came and helped out. A reminder that the Shire is entering into the Prohibited Fire Season meaning no outside fires are permitted. This includes a ban on wood fired pizza ovens and BBQs and camping fires.

18.01.2022 Heads up, SANTAS COMING TO TOWN! Please dont add your address as more details will go up including a map. ... Santa wants to see the biggest smiles, excited kids and shh but dont forget the manners

18.01.2022 Its been a busy fire season this year for our local Bush Fire Brigades, with crews responding to incidents as recently as Tuesday. This week is National Volunteers Week and we thank all volunteers, not only from our Brigade but Australia wide who contribute to their community one way or another. We have been fortunate to have secured a grant from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest to hold an event to acknowledge the amazing contribution our volunteers have made this year. We thank these organisations for their support.

18.01.2022 Monday 4 May 2020 is International Fire Fighters Day. Ordinarily we would be hosting an open service for all to attend however we know that this year is not ordinary. Instead we will be holding a small service in accordance with social distancing requirements to commemorate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the community. The service will conclude with the sounding of the siren around 12 noon. Residents are asked not to be alarmed if you hear sirens at this time but to take a moment to pause and appreciate the service that many of your neighbours, relatives and friends contribute as one of the 450 firefighters that live in this community, most of whom are volunteers.

17.01.2022 Today we took delivery of our new support vehicle. This vehicle can carry 7 people, is 4WD and can carry out a variety of tasks both on and off the fire ground. Just in time for summer, the vehicle has been fully funded by the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes and replaces our former 2009 Ford Territory. Thank you Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes for your continued support to the Brigade.

17.01.2022 Some sound advice from our counterparts in Waroona on the expected weather this weekend.

17.01.2022 We have been out and about last week assisting the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes and local landholders undertaking several burn offs before the fire season. It is likely that with the lack of rain, fire restrictions will come in early this year, so now is the perfect time to prepare. Have you had your 5 minute Fire Chat with your family? https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/firechat/Pages/default.htm

15.01.2022 Here is the map of Bridgetown we will cover with Santa on Sunday. In addition to the highlighted areas he will be visiting Hester Townsite, Four Season, Highlands Estate, Bridgetown Gardens and Warburton/Flintoff Roads. We are starting around 4.30pm - listen out for the sirens.

14.01.2022 What is the difference between a Total Fire Ban and a Harvest & Vehicle Movement Ban? Information for Bridgetown Greenbushes Shire Residents A Total Fire Ban (TFB) is declared by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES). A TFB is declared because of extreme weather conditions or when widespread fires are seriously stretching firefighting resources It is published on the Emergency WA website (www.emergency.wa.gov.au) and is generally imposed from midnight to midnig...ht There are exemptions for certain businesses to allow them to carry out activities during a Total Fire Ban if all prescribed conditions are met. Farmers can continue day-to-day agricultural activity such as harvesting and feeding and moving livestock when a TFB is in place as long as their local government has not implemented a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban. For more information on Total Fire Bans, and what you can and cant do, visit https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/totalfirebans/Pages/index.html A Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban is imposed by a Fire Control Officer of the local Shire. These are generally in effect during the part of the day when conditions mean fires cannot be controlled without great difficulty and resources. The following activities are prohibited during a Vehicle and Harvest Movement Ban Harvesting operations Any hot works such as welding, grinding, cutting, or heating in the open air Use or operation of any engine, vehicle, plant, equipment or machinery in the area likely to cause a bush fire or contribute to the spread of a bush fire. Exemptions during a VHMB are published at the time of declaration, and include Movement of Vehicles on gazetted roads (as described in the Bush Fires regulation 24A(1) and Road Traffic Act 1974 section 5.1) Movement of vehicles on a lane, driveway, yard or other area that provides access to, or a parking facility at, any residential, farming or business premises, if the area has been sufficiently cleared of inflammable material to prevent the escape of fire. Use or operation of a vehicle, if it is for the prevention of an immediate and serious risk to the health or safety of a person or livestock, and only if all reasonable precautions have been taken to prevent the activity from creating a bushfire danger. The automatic exemptions under a Total Fire Ban do not apply when a Vehicle and Harvest Movement Ban is in place and there is no Total Fire Ban declared by DFES. There has also been a lot of questions regarding wood fuelled BBQs, webber type BBQs and wood fired pizza ovens. These types of fires are banned by the Shire of Bridgetown Greenbushes during the Prohibited Burning Period (mid December to mid March) and require a Permit during Restricted Burning Period (generally November to mid December and mid March to mid May) unless in a building or structure fully enclosed on all four sides. Patios or verandas with blinds dont count!

14.01.2022 You've all been very patient waiting for us to put up the map of the Santa Run this year, and here it is. In addition to the map, Santa will be visiting Four Seasons Estate, Flintoff and Warburton Rds, Hester Townsite, Bridgetown Gardens and Highlands. We hope to kick off by 4.00pm today, so listen out for the sirens.... For anyone who misses out, Santa will be at Memorial Park and Highlands Fire Shed around 5.30 to 6pm (magical eh!) to say hi to the little ones, all going to plan.

14.01.2022 While the paddocks are still green, the Brigade has already responded to several fires in the last week. Take care when burning off. Permits are required from the 1 November.

14.01.2022 Some timely advice.

13.01.2022 Crews from Bridgetown, Kangaroo Gully and Hester Brook Bush Fire Brigades responded to a fire yesterday in Windy Hollow Estate. Kangaroo Gully Brigade has spent quite a bit of time working with the community to prepare for the fire season including holding a Street Meet a few weeks ago, and their efforts paid off, with the fire being halted by a well prepared property. Lessons of the Day: 1. A well prepared property can mean the difference between a scary few hours and ov...erwhelming regret. 2. If you plan to slash long dry grass, dont do it in the heat of the day. 3. If you are going to slash dry grass at any time, make sure you have firefighting equipment available in case it starts a fire.

12.01.2022 Santa wishes to say a huge thank you to all the boys and girls for coming out to say Hi to him and his helpers tonight. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy 2020

12.01.2022 Are you ready for the bush fire season?...Great day to be making a start if youre not prepared yet. Remember there may not be a fire truck or volunteers to protect every property in the path of a fire so preparation is your best defence.

12.01.2022 A Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban has been imposed for the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes on 1 January 2019 from 11.00am to 4.00pm. Greenbushes Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Hester Brook Volunteer Bushfire Brigade

12.01.2022 Oh behalf of the Hesterbrook Captain, FCO, Officers and the whole team, we want to thank all service men and women for their service. This Anzac Day, we hear yo...u, we see you, we remember you! Lest we forget Please note that all current hygiene and safety rules were followed, all equipment used was disinfected before and after use #anzacday2020 #drivewaydawnservice

10.01.2022 The Bridgetown Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade passes on its congratulations to Life Member Pam Hamence on being awarded with the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for service to the community through emergency response organisations. Pam is a founding member when the Bridgetown Bush Fire Brigade was reformed, and has contributed many years to supporting Bush Fire Brigades and volunteers throughout the State, and is still active with the Brigade today. In 2014 she was awarded life... membership to the Brigade and our Station was named in her and her late husband, Brian Hamence AFSM honour. 09.01.2022 Great support from the Blues Campers at showground buying breakfast from the Brigade to support the work we do in the community.

09.01.2022 Most residents would have been aware of the fire at Southampton/Balingup and some may have even asked why we hadnt posted about it. We do have a good reason - we were busy! The Brigade swung into action Tuesday and were tasked with a variety of roles in support of the incident. These activities included: - Arranging shift changeovers for fire crews from the Shire -Transporting crews to and from the fireground... -Acting as "Runners - taking meals to firefighters on the fireground - Checking and transporting the South West Development Commissions Emergency Relocation Centre trailer which holds bedding essentials in the event the Recreation Centre needed to be used for evacuees - Providing our Welfare trailer and refreshments to the Operations Point in Nannup -Crewing the 12.2 Bulk Water Tanker over various shifts -Providing radio operators and scribes - Making enough salad to feed a small village! With the fire now downgraded, the last of the crews from Bridgetown Greenbushes Shire clocked off at 6.30pm tonight. A fantastic effort by all involved. Many thanks to Brigade member Gillian Walker for the photos.

09.01.2022 Thank you to all the, Officials, Firees, volunteers and support personnel who last week particularly Wednesday night and Thursday worked tirelessly to bring fires across Bridgetown & Greenbushes Shire under control. It was a relief to get the rain and be able to get all equipment back into the brigades and cleaned up.

07.01.2022 Santa’s on his way everyone!! Highland and Bridgetown gardens will be first visited then everywhere else on the map. Listen out for the sirens. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

07.01.2022 A wonderful Memorial service today to remember and reflect on those that gave their lives in fighting fires in our region; and to those families, friends and fellow fire fighters affected by the loss. The service is very moving as the flag is lowered and a bell tolled as the name of each departed fire fighter is read out. Young and old came together to share in the service.

07.01.2022 DO NOT LIGHT UP ANY MORE FIRES & EXTINGUISH ANY BURNS DONE RECENTLY Local Fire Brigades have responded to another 5 fires since the weekend as a result of burn offs not being properly managed. The forecast over the next few days is going to be DRY and WINDY. Rain is not expected to arrive until late on Thursday, ... Residents are requested to check their burn offs and if you think they are out, pour some more water on it to be sure. This is for all burns, from small piles to paddocks.

06.01.2022 Youve all been very patient waiting for us to put up the map of the Santa Run this year, and here it is. 05.01.2022 Thank you to members who brought bunches of the most amazing coloured flowers to make wreaths for tomorrows International Fire Fighters Memorial service to be held at 12 noon. 05.01.2022 We have had our fair share of suspicious fires this year - if you know anything please contact the local Police or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000

05.01.2022 The Brigade provided a breakfast service for the happy campers staying at the BRIDGETOWN Showgrounds and attending the BRIDGETOWN Blues weekend. It was a great morning with a happy dedicated catering crew; and it was made even better by the happy campers and their appreciation of what we had on offer. We will be back tomorrow morning.

03.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that Santa has agreed to make a quick stop to Bridgetown on Sunday, starting around 4.00pm for the annual Fire Brigades Lolly Run. Stay tuned for more details and location later this week.

03.01.2022 Crews from local Fire and Rescue and Bush Fire Brigades met in Greenbushes this morning to refine their skills and familiarise themselves with new infrastructure being installed around the town as a result of the lithium mine expansion. Despite the rain all crews practiced drills in the event they were caught in a burn over at a fire.

03.01.2022 DFES have imposed a Total Fire Ban all day Sunday 20/1/19 for the Shire of Bridgetown Greenbushes. In addition the Shire has a Vehicle and Harvest Movement Ban in effect from 10am to 6pm. https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/totalfireb/Pages/whatisatfb.aspx Hester Brook Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Greenbushes Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade

03.01.2022 JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD! Since opening up the burning season last week, volunteers in the Shire have responded to 5 escaped burn offs. One of them has been going for 24 hours and crews will be out there for several days more. Please do not burn off until we get some more decent rain. This is not expected until later next week. Gusty winds from the north are forecast over the weekend and into the week which makes fires very dangerous with the lack of rai...n. If you feel the need to do a burn off may we suggest going fishing instead- the ocean is about as close as we want to be to another escaped burn.

03.01.2022 A Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban has been imposed for the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes on 25 December from 10.00am to 6.00pm. Greenbushes Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Hester Brook Volunteer Bushfire Brigade
