Having a passion for the hotel industry, Gladys started her new journey with #BridgewaterApartments not long ago and has already become a key team member of our Housekeeping team.... ‘As housekeepers, we are the backbone of our accommodation services and we play a particularly important role in the guest experience. I love seeing rooms get cleaned and tidied up with my own hands - it is very satisfying. Bridgewater Apartments also has an incredible working environment, everyone is willing to help. This is extremely helpful for someone who is starting a new job in a foreign country. ‘ From most of the Brisbane suburbs that Gladys has explored, Kangaroo Point is her favourite place. Not only because KP is where she is familiar with as she works in Bridgewater Apartments, but also because the suburb enjoys the most spectacular sunset and Story Bridge views. The heritage-listed Story Bridge also called Jubilee Bridge (in honour of King George V) was named after John Douglas Story, who was an influential public servant who had advocated strongly for the bridge’s construction. Story Bridge was opened for operation on 6 July, after a 5-year construction period. It was ...one of the governments’ three major public work projects to create employment during the Great Depression. Story Bridge is the largest bridge that is made of steel, fabricated, and constructed by Australians in Australia. Underneath is the Bradfield highway connecting Kangaroo Point and Fortitude Valley and is listed as the shortest highway in Australia! Behind the iconic Story Bridge, sadly, 3 great ‘heroes’ sacrificed their lives during the construction period. Today, Story Bridge has become an icon of Brisbane.
