25.01.2022 Cardboard is carbon. Chuck it back in the ground! We try to recycle a lot of paper and carbon that we consume athome. We add it to our compost piles and bins and cardboard works a treat as a grass / weed suppressant. We save our cardboard up and then, when laying a new bed, we soak it quickly in a solution of molasses and Biodynamic seaweed solution. This helps kick start the microbial breakdown as we then lay it down before adding our soil and compost blend over the top.... The last bed we put down made me think about packaging, plastic and the integrity of some companies. With a lot of run of the mill packaging, you end up with a mountain of plastic and packing tape big enough to make a football out of it! I'll give a shout out to @dyson here. We bought a new vacuum after our old Dyson lasted about 12 years before our bashing and crashing took its toll. The new vacuum came in clean cardboard. I think one small plastic plastic bag and the rest of the parts were just seated in clean plain cardboard rather than bubble wrap. So pretty much all of the packaging went into the garden to grow food! I'll also give a shout out to @nightlifemusic where I used to work in Brisbane. They put a lot of thought into recycling. Their old music systems always came back to the company to be stripped and parts re-used where possible. Their transport boxes were just big thick foldable cartons. We still use a couple of them at home as they just fold up and stack away in the shed until we need them again. So in this season of over consumption, it's a great time to reflect on where you spend your hard earned coin and the companies that deserve your loyalty. All the best, Brownie.

25.01.2022 Our first vanilla flower! Do we hand pollinate or leave it to our wonderful hive of native bees 6 metres away? #biodynamics #organics #healthyfood

21.01.2022 I'm so stoked how this is progressing. Just over two weeks since we integrated soil activator into the mix to kick start the 16 week composting process. Fungi is awesome

20.01.2022 We've been watching the wonderful conjunction of jupiter and saturn over the past week. It aligns with the solstice at 9.02 aedst tonight. First nations people are celebrating this event as a time of renewal and love for our mother earth. There's more detail via linktree in my bio about this ceremony. We'll be taking time tonight to sit down with friends and meditate facing towards Uluru leading up to this conjunction.... In amongst all of the busyness and noise of this year and this time, there's a chance to stop this evening and join in with the original custodians of our land and share our intentions and love for all living things in our world. Get those bare feet connected to the earth and our hearts coming together. Love and peace to you all. Brownie #uluru #katatjuta #anothertime #ngaltawaddi #biodynamics

Congrats to everyone involved. Amazing!... Sowing Seeds Magazine, in partnership with Young Farmers Connect, are thrilled to launch this special issue on young farmers. Featuring stories from a new generation flocking to the agricultural sector with a passion for regeneration and a determination to bridge the gap between growers and the people who eat. 19.01.2022 It's been two years since Bridget and I did this wonderful intro to biodynamics course with Hamish Mackay and Charlie Arnott. I've been lucky enough to be invited back a few times and always find new inspiration from this magical practice. A great bunch of participants today putting together a bd compost heap. Looking forward to day 2 tomorrow. #regenerativeagriculture #biodynamics #browniesbiodynamics #healthysoils #healthypeople

14.01.2022 Hamish and Charlie are running a free webinar next Tuesday 28th July as an intro to Biodynamics. Follow the link in my bio to book a spot.

14.01.2022 Walking around your yard in bare feet is one of life's great pleasures...often destroyed by bindis! Microbes from the soil make you happy, scientists have discovered. I've heard it from an aboriginal elder that stamping your bare feet on the ground first thing in the morning makes you happy too. So like a lot of things, first nations people knew this stuff already. So what to do with bindis? Weeds are there to deliver a service to the soil. Dumping poisons on them degrades yo...ur soil instead of improving them. It's like spraying weeds with roundup, they just keep popping back up and you just have to keep spraying! This spring I've made a bindi biodynamic tea. 1. Spend a lazy arvo digging up half a bucket of weeds. (Works well with a cold beer in hand) 2. Fill the bucket up with clean water and add a good handful of bd soil activator. Soil activator has all the BD elements in it 3. Stir once a week for six weeks. 4. Keep it covered with cloth to keep the mossies from breeding. 5. After 6 weeks strain off the weedy bits and then pour the clear liquid into a container. 6. Apply the tea at around 20 to 1 with water to the areas where the weeds are rampaging. Best to apply before the weeds sprout and go to seed. So for bindis, apply it every couple of weeks through winter into early spring. You can also add it into a bd soil treatment spray towards the end of your stir at about 20 to 1. Why do it? Well it's better for all living things than poisons. By making a weed tea, you're taking the weeds and supercharging them to add elements to the soil what the soil needs and the weeds are out to contribute. Bindis are also trying to cover bare earth too. So you might want to let your lawn grow longer. I've done a similar thing with nut grass last summer and I reckon I've knocked it back by at least 50 percent in my veggie beds this year. So look after your soils while you look after your feet. It's cheaper and friendlier for all living things.

08.01.2022 Another great biodynamic workshop with Hamish Mackay and Charlie Arnott. This is the 4th one I've been to in the last 2 years. New things to learn every time and so many fantastic people to meet. Big thanks to Hamish and Charlie for having me along and Adam and his family for hosting us under a glorious outdoor classroom. There's a groundswell of people now connecting the dots between healthy soils, healthy food and happiness! So glad to be part of this transformation.... #biodynamics #biodynamics2024 #organic #healthysoils #healthyfood #regenerativeagriculture See more
