25.01.2022 No need to buy fancy bee hotels. Just create a bee friendly garden. Pigeon pea also attracts the jumbo carpenter bees.
25.01.2022 Can you walk from North West Private Hospital to the Everton Park shops? Turns out you can - but take your phone or a map.
22.01.2022 Even in the home garden, tree and perennial crops can form the backbone of edible crops
21.01.2022 Surely every transport project should include active transport. Both cycling and pedestrian infrastructure as well as cars
21.01.2022 So why isn't the council encouraging people to put in tanks - at least to water the garden and other outdoor use?

19.01.2022 For anyone in Ipswich. Good work from the Ipswich City Council Brisbane City Council expects residents to go to ward offices or libraries with their paid rates notice to get vouchers for 2 plants. Not only inconvenient but what if you receive and pay your rates electronically?

18.01.2022 Interesting story about how watering the right way can be better than not watering in a drought. Having tank water instead of using potable town water would make it even better.
18.01.2022 "Adequate tree canopy cover is the least costly, most sustainable way of cooling our cities. " Plant trees in your gardens, but more importantly engage with oth...ers to maximise the trees planted on public land, especially the verges / nature strips to encourage walking and cycling as important methods of transport to reduce emissions. 15.01.2022 or do they love them?
14.01.2022 People think green is good, but actually when ecosystems really function, there is a mix of browns, yellows, greens. Bright, vibrant green on its own is not a good indicator of health.
14.01.2022 We all need to get planting in even bit of available land - in our gardens, on all those unused lawns and neglected verges. Plant natives for diversity and habitat in all public places. Mix in some food growing in your garden. We can always go to the supermarket if our edibles don't succeed, our wildlife can't.

11.01.2022 The Secret Life Of Nature and Well Being : Live Broadcast Sunday Theres no denying how important spending time outside in nature in a garden in a park or in t...he bush is to our well-being. During the period of lockdown people have been spending so much time walking cycling and just being outside. Research is sharing how important it is to our well being. So called green zones in countries where people are living to up to close to and beyond 100 years of age reflect the importance of time outside, physical exercise and eating a healthy diet. The Japanes have recognised the importance of spending time in the forest and actually call that time forest bathing. Each year more and more research is being presented around the importance of time in nature, the need for us to inhale and immerse ourselves in different places to build and take on board different bacteria and microbes as a natural way to build resilience. Environmental education is intended to get children learning about nature by getting out into school gardens and the bush and experiencing the outside world in all its reality. What is it that makes people feel good when they are hiking, or sitting in the park surrounded by trees and listening and looking at birds. Why can children roll around outdoors in the mud and cold all day in winter and shrug it off as fun playing. I dont know if any of you have heard of Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy Inc. (AABAT). Most of you lived and breathed it as children but where does it fit into the scheme of things now. Here it is as defined by AABAT The Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy; "Bush Adventure Therapy is a diverse field of practice combining adventure and outdoor environments with the intention to achieve therapeutic outcomes for those involved. Its clear that the benefits of going bush for anyone is incredible and even more so for young people who have experienced tough upbringings and challenges. Over the month of June there will be a series of 4 online webinars weekly culminating late in the month with a whole day seminar / webinar with a range of people presenting how their work supports Adventure Therapy with topics ranging from horticultural therapy bush adventure therapy, equine therapy, forest therapy, outdoor therapy, eco therapy, indigenous health practices , and gardening to name a few. Its the first ever Nature and Health Online Symposium and it is bringing together all of us and anyone who is /are interested in nature for health. Gropus and organisations such as this work away on the edge of the mainstream but bring the new ideas slowly toward the centre.Mainstream health systems and services can benefit form these practices being a part of a suite of options that can be presented for people and their health care. The importance of being in nature is undeniable and slowly this importance is being recognised.Time outside in nature and in the garden for example is beginning to be prescribed as a legitimate option for doctors to share with patients. There is much interest and momentum around the importance of being outdoors in nature since the lockdown. This series of talks is an opportunity for mothers and fathers, grand parents ,community gardeners and coordinators, designers, architects, engineers, environmental educators, teachers of early childhood, primary , high school and tertiary and many more to explore and be exposed to the connections that nature has to our life pathway and the health we carry along the journey. Exciting to see the role of nature expanding its reach and recognition. I will be chatting with Dr Anita Pryor co leader of AABATS Healthcares Policy Unit tomorrow morning so please feel free to lookup AABAT and write down any questions here and join us live at 830am for an introduction to what the month ahead looks like and how Adventure Bush Therapy is and can be part of everyones day to day lives. 10.01.2022 Are you going to prioritize the 40 or 70 people on the bus? Or are you going to treat them the same as the cars that are carrying one or two or maybe three people?
08.01.2022 Dragonflies started coming into my garden after I added the first pond.
07.01.2022 How many of your journeys could be made using active transport (walking, cycle, public) instead of the car?
07.01.2022 Walk and use public transport more. Care for soil and plant well. Vote thoughfully.

02.01.2022 The law states that a pedestrian must not travel along a road if there is a footpath or nature strip adjacent to the road, unless it is impracticable to travel on the footpath or nature strip. Impracticable means impossible in practice to do or carry out, it doesnt mean the same as impractical.
02.01.2022 How nice is it playing in the garden on these chilly but sunny days! We have some beautiful NEW stock available to make your garden shine. Drop in and take a look around this weekend and explore the Sanctuary as well! A picnic in the park is always a great idea!
01.01.2022 The best thing that could happen to Brisbane is to reduce the number of cars and increase active transport (walking, cycling, public transport, etc) That would take a change of habits and attitudes. Could we do it?
01.01.2022 Go on a critter hunt in your garden. Thanks to Rocky Point AU for the sheet - and for your products which have helped our garden become home to all these critters.
